Kombi driver who killed girlfriend commits su***de

By Lucky Mabhiza - 04/02/2021

Melinkosi Moyo
Kombi driver who killed girlfriend commits su***de. A kombi driver who allegedly killed his girlfriend is said to have committed su***de near Esigodini Tollgate, just a few kilometres from his Mlomolihotho rural home in Mawabeni.

Melinkosi Moyo from Lobengula suburb, Bulawayo allegedly stabbed Prudence Ndlovu (24) to death in Nkulumane suburb on Sunday morning. Moyo had been on the run since committing the crime. His body was found on Tuesday near Esigodini Tollgate and police informed his family about his death yesterday morning.

A news crew visited Moyo’s New Lobengula residence yesterday and his relatives confirmed that they had been informed that he had hanged himself from a tree. His sister, Ms Sizoluhle Moyo said the incident has left the family shattered as they do not know where to turn to for answers.

Ms Moyo said other family members had gone to identify her brother’s body. She said her uncles last communicated with Moyo at about 2AM on Sunday while she last spoke to him at around 12AM and at no point did he reveal that he had committed a crime.

“What I know is that he was accusing Prudence of cheating on him. He constantly called me at about 11PM, revealing that he had found her hiding place in Nkulumane. He said I should call umakoti wethu (our daughter-in-law) although they were still boyfriend and girlfriend but she was not answering her phone.

He called her and then phoned me back telling me to call her. That is when she answered the phone saying when Meli does not understand something he becomes harsh. She didn’t even tell me that they were fighting,” said Ms Moyo.

“This has left us with more questions than answers because we don’t know him as a violent person. So, we want to know how he ended up being in Nkulumane where the crime was committed. He had big plans for his life so we really don’t know why he would do such a thing. He had acquired a class one driver’s licence and was set to relocate to South Africa before the lockdown was imposed.

So, we also would want to engage Prudence’s family maybe they know better what really transpired because at no point did we hear that they were having relationship problems. We last saw her three days before she was killed.”

Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube could not immediately confirm that Moyo’s body had been recovered. “What we know so far is that there is a body that was found in Esigodini but before the family identifies it as his we cannot confirm that it’s his,” said Insp Ncube.

A fellow tenant at Moyo’s Lobengula West residence said he arrived home at 2AM Sunday and borrowed R200 from her.

She said he told her that Ndlovu would bring the money in the morning. “I didn’t know him that much. I just knew that he was a driver always moving in cars. But on Sunday he arrived at about 2AM, took a bath and borrowed R200 which he said his girlfriend would bring later.

“He was so calm and we didn’t suspect anything until armed police knocked at our doors at about 5 AM looking for him. That is when we learnt that he had killed someone and we did not find any bloodstains anywhere,” said the tenant who preferred not to be named

FORMER Warriors skipper, Benjani Mwaruwari, has thrown his weight behind Alois Bunjira to be the next Zifa president.

The ex-Manchester City and Portsmouth forward is currently working on his coaching badges and sports management courses in England.

He believes it was a blessing in disguise when he was barred from fighting for the Zifa presidency, a few years ago, on a technicality, as this has enabled him to boost his football knowledge.

Speaking to South African broadcaster, Robert Marawa, on his daily radio show, Benjani said the future, for him, and Zimbabwe football, was exciting.

He believes he will have another go at the Zifa presidency, in the future but, for now, he was backing Bunjira to be the next boss of domestic football.

“I think in future, yes, because when l tried, there was a loophole, so, sometimes chances come early but, unfortunately, age was not on my side,” he said.

“They said I was too young, the constitution said no Under-40 should lead the association.

“People are scared that footballers will come and do great and they tighten it up and, that time, the FIFA president won it at 39 years.

“l think it was a blessing, as well, l am doing sports management, sometimes you need to be ready.

“I am doing my coaching badges. I am halfway through my Uefa A, we are just waiting for the practicals.

“I am attached to Portsmouth at the moment, hopefully, by September everything would be running and we will just wrap it up.”

He revealed he recently spoke to Bunjira and gave him his blessings.

“Alois Bunjira is running for presidency, l think we need to support him, let’s hope he is ready,” said Benjani.

“l spoke to him, like two weeks ago, and l said l will be there for you, we will support you, and he asked ‘are you going to run?’ and l told him l am still preparing for my badges.

“All the footballers, if they see you being there, they will support you and let’s hope you will change football in Zimbabwe.”
Benjani’s son is now at the Portsmouth Academy.

“My son is turning 15 in November and, apparently, he is playing with Portsmouth Academy,” he said.

“I don’t want to push him, he is a good player but l don’t want to push him, l don’t want him to know that.

“For the past four, five years, I could hear people talking about him, even Bruce Grobbelar called the club and said l want this boy to come to Liverpool.

“l said no, l just want him to enjoy his football, you know when you are young, you need to enjoy it, you don’t have to be pressured.”
Benjani said his wife has been supportive of their child.

“The mother has been supportive, she has been there for him since he was six when he joined Portsmouth, driving him to training, unlike us in Africa where they punish you for going and playing football,” he said.

“Here in Europe, you have to take the kids to training, to the games, they give you a programme, they give you everything and l am glad the mother is doing that.

“Even if he doesn’t make it to the top we support him.”

The former Jomo Cosmos player revealed his deep relationship with Jomo Sono, when he opened the show with a birthday message for the South African legend, who turned 65 yesterday.

“To be quite honest I didn’t have a clue about him taking a lot of players to Europe,” he said.

“I was just excited that I will come to South Africa and play for Jomo Cosmos as he mentioned to me.

“When I was at Josmos, I discovered all these things he did for the players.

“I went AWOL when we were playing for the national team in Zimbabwe and he said where are you, I want you to go to Newcastle for trials.

“I was nowhere to be found, he said you missed a chance to go to Newcastle now you have to go to Bournemouth, where l am at the moment.

“He made some arrangements and I came to Bournemouth. I went there at the wrong time.

“While l was in Bournemouth, he arranged for me to go to Turkey but I didn’t like it,

“I flew to Turkey from Norway, I don’t know what’s happened there. From there, I went to Switzerland.

“Within a space of one month, l had four trials, then, eventually, l made it in Zurich.

“You know, in Zurich, it was nice, the city was beautiful and I loved it and I said Bra Jay, you know what, l will sign here and he said I am coming tomorrow.

“He flew over then we signed a deal. When he wants things to happen he can put an effort.”

Benjani said he still remained desperate to return to play in South Africa to such an extent he even tried to deceive Sono’s Swiss friend who had organised a trial stint for him with French side, AJ Auxerre.

Admiral Muskwe has returned to his parent club Leicester City following the end of his loan deal at English League 2 side Swindon Town.

The Warriors striker spent the last six month at the County Ground after joining the fourth-tier club in January. He will not be retained along with other loanees since the league season will not restart after the English Football League (EFL) officially ended the campaign due to the coronavirus pandemic.

A statement by Swindon confirmed the development: “The club would like to thank all of its loanees from the 2019/20 season.

“Your hard work and commitment to the football club has been first-class throughout the campaign.”

During his time League 2, the Zimbabwean striker made five appearances, all coming in as a substitute-Soccer 24
