My heartbreaking story.

So. It all started when I was born. It happened in Kyrgyzstan (Soviet Union), where I grew up and studied.

My family were all dedicated professionals in Theatre industry. And my grandma was the person who had the ultimate influence on my future music career.

I started with piano lessons in my 5 years.

During those times apart from studying, I was regularly touring with my grandma’s Theatre troops, and even performed in some acts…

And I saw arts kitchen from the inside… But, well, that’s a different story.

When it came to choosing the college (the first adult choice in my life, the one that will determine my future life!.. me taking decision for my life!!!, etc), - I had the whole world of possibilities in front! So many adventures! Choosing the right “lifeline” was so challenging, but so exiting!!! And in this dramatic moment of my life, my grandma was there for me. She said: “You have no choice but to continue studying music, unless…”

Maybe I wished to be a doctor. Or a tourism industry professional. Or investment risk manager. But what came after my grandma’s “unless” was so “inspiring”, it predetermined my choice...

I chose Kyrgyz State Music College (where I’ve got my Bachelor’s degree as Accompanist, Primary School Music Teacher), then ended up graduating Kyrgyz National Music Academy with Master’s degree as Accompanist, Music Teacher and Perform er in 2004.

It may sound ok now, but it was Russian Music School!!! It was tough! Cool, but so hard! I was not happy that my grandma imposed me her choice (I could have made the same choice myself, but when she forced me to it…).

So I decided to become independent as soon as possible. You know, to avoid such “unlesses” in future. During my student years I started giving music lessons, worked as accompanist at State Theatre Orchestra, and at Kyrgyz National Ballet Academy. Joined praise band in Grace Church, and was even the band’s worship leader (vocal and keyboard).

And when I finally graduated Music Academy, I was full of determination that never ever in my life I will come close to piano, or have something in common with music…(well, apart from Church, maybe).

Wow. Those were the years!

At that moment, if anyone said I would teach music – I’d laugh from that joke.

Other life had begun.

I started searching for my real calling. I changed few careers. My jobs took me to different countries. I taught French, worked in banking sphere. So passed several years.

Then I’ve got happily married… Building a family became my priority, and my career search suspended. Ah, my family! But that story is for another time. This story is about me and music.

Don’t remember exactly now, but some day one of my family friends dared to suggest me to give private music lessons. Well, at that stage it was something I could have forgiven to my unaware good friend. And so I have done. But the seed was planted.

And I gave it a try. You know, as in Katy Perry’s song – “Just to try it”.

And almost instantly got my job as accompanist in a State Music School (do not remember exactly the name, but that’s not the matter in this story), and also started private music lessons in vocal and piano. And not to forget joining worship band at local Grace Church as keyboard and vocalist.

And it went very well! I was feeling unexpectedly comfortable in music job.

To my surprise it was so easy for me, like I just was teaching and performing music all this time!

And that was when I figured out, my calling was the one I was trying to avoid all that time.

In 2012 our lifetrack brought our family to South Africa.

I already knew what I was going to do here. Although South Africa was my terra incognita at the beginning, I discovered how people here were passionate and talented in music! And that passion was (and is) so inspiring and encouraging!

I started with private lessons, joined Highway Church worship band as vocalist and keyboard… And so on and so forth….

Now I’m associated with Performance Academy Music School in Blairgowrie, Randburg, work with Shine Music school and Master Music, as well as giving private studio lessons and online lessons to various groups of students: kids and adults, beginners to pros.

And you know, since all these years, I figured out that I was a good music teacher.

16 years of Russian Music Teaching School, plus British curriculum, gave me a great knowledge and skills base to be a good teacher.

And my experience of being a Music College and Academy student (and granddaughter of my grandma) taught me how studying should be made INTERESTING, not boring, and atmosphere – MOTIVATIONAL, not forcing. And how to overcome CHALLENGES instead of loosing it. In other words how to work for result.

And that is what I’m doing. I like it. I like to share it. I like to teach, and make it interesting for my students. And I know how to do it! And I love seeing my students have joy of the learning and of their progress! Anyways, one of my qualifications is Music Teacher.
