SECTION27 was established in May 2010. It incorporates the AIDS Law Project, one of South Africa’s most successful post-apartheid human rights organisations. SECTION27 is a public interest law centre that seeks to influence, develop and use the law to protect, promote and advance human rights.

Meet Samukelisiwe "Sam" Msane, our first Raith-funded intern! She will be with SECTION27 until December 2024.

Sam is a final-year law student at the University of KwaZulu-Natal with a passion for social reform.

A Durbanite, Sam volunteers at the Denis Hurley Centre and Howard College’s HIV/AIDS Support Unit. She loves the outdoors, jogging, and animals.

Proud moment: securing sanitary pad donations from the Taxi Association for disadvantaged schools.

Fun fact: Sam loved the sense of belonging and community at the HIV/AIDS clinic and the freebies were a bonus!
