Grade 4 Trip to the Johannesburg Zoo.
Grade 4 learners had an exciting trip to the Johannesburg Zoo on Tuesday.
The children were so excited to have an outing from school and to have the opportunity to see the real Animals from African that they had been learning and reading about in lessons at school this term.
Grade 5 retreat
On 13 March the Grade 5s had the opportunity to be on a Retreat here at school. The first
question they had to answer was "What is a retreat?β They were happy to understand that retreat
means taking a step back, reflecting on life in general, finding new ways leading to success, and
thanking God for the graces they receive. They did a meditation, listened to a reading of Isaiah 43:
God calls us by name, and had to respond by writing a letter to God thanking him for having
created them and knowing each one by name. The Grade 5s also took time to colour in mandalas
which explained unity and diversity. They were taught how to give and receive love. Our Grade 5s
also learned a prayer for going to sleep.
We thank Mrs Correia for taking the time to be with our learners at Dominican.
Grade 8 leadership camp - Part Two
We were so excited when we climbed onto the buses. It was great to sit with my friends and we were at camp Sedibe Kwele in no time. The bus snaked through bushveld on a dirt road. The dirt road was terrible on the way to camp, and the journey was very bumpy.
We were immediately divided into groups and unpacked in our dorms. Not long and we were in the dining room enjoying the delicious food on offer. The obstacle course was challenging, especially when racing against the clock, but we got to support each other.
My highlight was the zipline. Sedibe is famous for its four-story setup. The view above the trees was amazing, but I must admit that it was a little scary up there. It was very high, but it was a thrill going down. We also got to use the climbing wall, and believe me, this was a challenge!
The pool was another highlight bringing relief to us all in the heat. On the way to the camp, we spotted a family of water buck. We also saw zebra and wildebeest.
Camp Sedibe is a fantastic place β we learned so much about ourselves and each other.

Grade 7 trip to the Johannesburg Zoo
Our day began with a bus ride! The Grade 7s had a fantastic opportunity of visiting the Johannesburg Zoo with their homeroom educators. This was an educational excursion, that afforded them an opportunity to interact with a variety of living organisms, especially animals.
Part of their Natural Sciences Curriculum requires them to able to classify living organisms and understand more about the diversity of animals and plants.
Visiting the Johannesburg Zoo also helped our learners sharpen some of their scientific process skills that include observing, classifying, communicating and comparing.
Memorable experiences were recorded throughout the day and getting close to the big 5s, snakes, frogs, variety of birds just to mention a few was just a cherry on top!
Pre-Primary Trip to the Zoo
On the 14 March 2024, the pre-primary visited the Johannesburg Zoo. The excitement started the moment we stepped through turnstile. Peacock, peahen and chickens greeted us and were roaming freely, everywhere in the park.
The children enjoyed seeing the elephants, baboons, cows etc. They had a picnic in front of the loins. The children enjoyed the outing.

Grade 6 trip to the Zoo
Grade 6s had fun at the zoo. Zoos were made to bring wildlife closer to humans, and to give humans a better and up-close view of them. This also allows various researchers and scientists to note the behavioural pattern of the animals, which helps them in their studies.
In addition, zoos are a great source of entertainment for children. They love visiting zoos and interacting with animals. They gain practical knowledge about the animal and also gain exposure to wildlife and widen their knowledge.
Furthermore, zoos give us easy access to rare animals. Had it not been for zoos, we would never have been able to see what some animals looked like. We enjoy their seeing their behaviour and become aware of the dangers of extinction of rare species.
Similarly, zoos are a safe breeding ground for animals. They ensure that animals can breed in safety so they will not become extinct. This helps in creating a good balance. Moreover, the zoos ensure the animals get the right nutrition to lead a healthy life.
Grade 5 trip to the Zoo.
On the 11th of March 2024, the Grade 5's were excited to go on an excursion to the Johannesburg Zoo. They were eagerly ready at the busses with their water bottles, hats and lunches to see the different animals at the zoo! As we navigated through the winding paths, we encountered creatures from every corner of the globe. The children were very excited to see the mighty elephant and the tall giraffes' eating their lunch, to which a group of learners said it looked like they were gossiping. Mr Hippo really went out of his or her way to give us a show by popping out of the water for a stroll and then going back into the water making grunting noises. The mischievous monkeys swung from tree to tree, their playful antics bringing smiles to us all. But the zoo wasn't just about the big and the bold. We also discovered the wonders of the underwater world at the aquarium, where vibrant fish danced among coral reefs. The best was saved for last for many of the learners where the 'creep and crawl' animals were paid a visit. The learners were fascinated by the various bats, snakes, frogs and spiders on display. An exciting day was had by all!
Fire drill 12 March 2024
Fire drills are designed to help learners and staff to respond appropriately in the event of a fire and to make sure everyone knows how to evacuate the building safely and quickly. Preparing learners and staff for an emergency situation is important, so they will know how to act quickly and calmly when it happens
