As we transitioned from the Basic Supervisory Skills Programme to the Parents and Caregivers Programme, our journey was enriched by the expertise of our esteemed AYDF Trainer, Ms. Keitumetsi Mofokeng. In her demonstration of a Parents and Caregivers session, she illustrated the transformative power of facilitation grounded in Adult Learning Principles.

Ms. Mofokeng emphasized the importance of understanding that adults bring a wealth of experiences to the learning environment, and that effective facilitation should harness these experiences, fostering a collaborative, respectful, and engaging atmosphere. By tailoring her approach to meet the needs of adult learners, she created a dynamic space where parents and caregivers felt heard, valued, and motivated to apply their new skills. Her session was a powerful reminder of the impact that thoughtful facilitation can have on empowering adults to make positive changes in their families and communities.

Without data, you’re just another person with an opinion." These insightful words were emphasized by AYDF's Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Manager, Ms. Lerato Sedibe, during a recent monitoring and evaluation session. Ms. Sedibe highlighted the critical role that data plays in measuring the success and effectiveness of programmes, particularly in the KeMoja programme. She explained that without concrete data, it is challenging to differentiate between subjective opinions and evidence-based conclusions about the impact of an initiative.

During the session, Ms. Sedibe shared various tools and methodologies employed within the KeMoja programme to systematically track progress and assess impact. These tools are designed to collect quantitative and qualitative data, which is then analyzed to inform decision-making, identify areas for improvement, and ensure that the programme's objectives are being met. By leveraging these data-driven approaches, the KeMoja programme is able to demonstrate its effectiveness in promoting healthy lifestyles and addressing issues such as substance abuse among young people. Ms. Sedibe’s emphasis on data underscores its importance in moving beyond opinions and ensuring accountability and transparency in programme delivery.

As we concluded day two, KeMoja Coordinators engaged in an intensive planning session using the Project Planning Arrow Tool. Led by AYDF Master Trainer Ms. Lebohang Molapo, the session underscored the crucial role of effective planning in achieving success. Ms. Molapo emphasized that having a clear, actionable plan not only provides direction but also significantly reduces the time and effort required during implementation. She highlighted that a well-thought-out plan acts as a roadmap, guiding coordinators through each stage of their projects, allowing them to anticipate challenges, allocate resources wisely, and remain focused on their objectives.

By mastering the art of planning, coordinators are better equipped to navigate complexities, make informed decisions, and ultimately deliver impactful outcomes. As the saying goes, "A man with a plan has half his battle won," because a well-laid plan is the foundation upon which success is built.
