Convocation should not limit its self to being a begging structure but rather be creative and innovative enough to develop its own programs to fundraise.

As Registrations Opens on monday, please be advised:

1_You cannot appeal a decision on a case of Plagiarism, chances of the University making a mistake on such charges are almost 0.01%

2_You cannot appeal application outcome "rejected due to space".

3_The maximum number of subjects you can register is 5 per semester or 10 per academic year unless, you have 12 modules to complete your qualification then you would have to register 5 in semester 1 and "APPLY" to register 7 in semester 2. The decision whether to approve your application to exceed takes into consideration your pass average, it is not automatically granted. Do not make the mistake of just registering 7 modules without applying to exceed, this may delay your registration finalization only for your 2 modules to be rejected.

4_To fast track your application to register, I advise that you pay your minimum fee at Campus, bare in mind that UNISA does not accept cash payments and if you send your money to me, my landlord will be rich, do not send money to anyone. Payments made at Campus can reflect within 15 minutes, alternatively, you can take your receipt to the finance desk for manual update and leave Campus as a registered student.

5_We do not have connections to bridge the system in favor of anyone over another, in fact I am a watchdog against preferential treatment as this has previously seen thousands of deserving students unfairly treated by the system.

6_Lastly, UNISA does not have an NSFAS office, sort out your funding issues with NSFAS, I advise that you buy minutes and call NSFAS, it might take you 2 hours to get ahold of them so do not be cheap with your minutes, if they answer faster, you can call me with the rest of your minutes, you do not want to hold on and be cutoff when you get connected.

NSFAS Number is 0800067327 (08000NSFAS)

Simamkele Xani

One of the best things you can give UNISA Graduates and Students is an opportunity to interact with you directly and we have never hidden from them...let's have a discussion, we don't masquerade as leaders, we take our mandate from our Students and Graduates.

Photos from UNISA Convocation - UNISA Graduates's post 23/11/2022

The President of UNISA Convocation presides for a period equivalent to 480 credits (4 Years), this means that Undergraduates completing their Qualification a year after the election of the incoming President will graduate into the hands of this President and hence is is mportant to engage student leaders and former student leaders in this topic, this is what necessitated our visit to UNISA North Eastern Region (Limpopo), we appreciate the discussions and look foward to more.

Reset: Whilst Gauteng (Tshwane) welcomed and embraced us for years, the journey started in a double story building in Mthatha with barely 10 study rooms, setting study groups in a cold basement that used to have a water leakage issue until recently, after years dedicated to student activism in UNISA, Simamkele Xani visits home to engage with UNISA Graduates falling within the category of unemployed, employed in a different field and those who wish to study further about possible opportunities and further more about his contestation for UNISA Convocation.

We call on all UNISA Graduates to make way to the Mthatha Campus on friday 18 November 2022 at 10:00

This invitation is also open to current students and most importantly those in their third or final years of study...

We did not wake up and decide that we love UNISA Student's and Graduates last night, it was love at first sight and serviced over a period of years in activism, in 2018 we demonstrated our love for some who are today Graduates of UNISA when they complained about NSFAS benefits, we argued in a boardroom "no tyres were burnt that day" yet, we successfully got UNISA Student's that young NSFAS monthly R290.

When they argued that the Academic exclusion policy was irrational and did not make sense for UNISA Students who can take 3 subjects / 30 to 40 a year and be academically excluded because they have exceeded the years of study for that particular qualification, we argued in a boardroom for scrapping of the Academic exclusion, not only did we scrap the policy, but it also allowed for those who had already been affected to come back.

Those who were there would remember how without any position, we still came back to assist UNISA Higher Certificate Students (bridging course) who were being rejected by the institution despite having won in court, we slept outside Winnie Madikizela Mandela with affected students and when they University offered to only give space to those students, we stood our ground and made it clear that we were representing even those who could not make it.

Fast foward, when there were issues with UNISA Graduations, we were the first ones that UNISA Graduates knew they had to cry to and we left everything to attend to them, the first memorandum demanding release of dates was signed (Simamkele Xani - UNISA Graduate/Alumni)

More could be said but UNISA Graduates know, i was just giving highlights to those who were not there or who might have missed these.

I am Simamkele Xani, and i am available to serve UNISA Graduates as President of UNISA Convocation

We started this journey together a few years ago and we must finish it together.

Photos from UNISA Convocation - UNISA Graduates's post 12/11/2022

When we say we only seek to finish what we started a few years back, we are not being rethoric, look at the dates, what they won't tell you as they celebrate the Graduation of Ntshavheni Netsh*tuni (President of Blind SA) is the struggles he had to deal with as a student at UNISA and further more as a blind graduate of UNISA, they will not mention the number of dropouts of students living with disabilities. We know because many times and more than imaginable, we have had to intervene in ARCSWID where UNISA Students who are differently abled seemed to be forgotten, from procurement and distribution of their specific assistive devices, print and production their study materials and when the University introduced online invigilation softwares which were not user friendly to students living with disabilities. We must look into opportunities that will train and prepare our students living with disabilities to adjust and adapt faster to different environments in the migration process from Student to worker, we must assure companies of their abilities and capabilities and change the attitude of looking into their disabilities, their journey as UNISA self taught graduates is testament of their strength and determination, if you struggle getting employment, imagine how difficult it must be for Graduates living with disabilities if they are not employed even by their own University.

We are not children of a lesser God, Family law of UP and Family law of UNISA are the same, Financial Accounting of Wits and Financial Accounting of UNISA is the same, why then must one be given preference over the other? Especially to the disadvantage of the one who is self taught.

WHAT IS UNISA CONVOCATION?

The SRC (Student Representative Council) is a statutory body which represents student's interests in the different levels of UNISA Committees from Institutional Forum, Senate, to Council.

Graduates of the University are not the Responsibility of the SRC but rather Convocation and Alumni.

Convocation is a body of UNISA Graduates with representation in the University Council (Highest decision making body), it is responsible for raising matters of concern about the development of the University, advises council or management on matters of present interests and assists the university and the Unisa Foundation with fundraising.

When we went out writing emails, prtitions and organizing UNISA Graduates around a campaign for UNISA to bring back Venue based Graduations, we were doing the responsibilities of UNISA Convocation which most of our Graduates did not even know existed.

When we fought for the release of new dates for disrupted Graduations, we were doing what Convocation should have been doing.

When we raised issues around the clearing of historic debt which caused many graduates to not be able to get their certificates and subsequently unable to seek employment related to their completed Qualifications, we had taken up responsibilities of UNISA Convocation.

When we questioned the rumors about the status of UNISA Qualifications to make sure that all UNISA Qualifications remained acredited, relevant and recognized in the market, we had taken responsibilities of Convocation.

It is based on these amongst many other reasons that we continue to call on all UNISA Graduates to register to vote for Simamekele Xani as President of UNISA Convocation to continue with the work we started before we were even elected.

PUT UNISA GRADUATES FIRST.
