Congratulations to UP alumnus Professor Kithure Kindiki, who was recently sworn in as a new Deputy President of Kenya. Prof Kindiki, an advocate of the High Court of Kenya and the International Criminal Court, obtained his master’s degree in International Human Rights Law and Democracy in 2001, and his PhD in International Law in 2003, both from the University of Pretoria.
Prof Kindiki, on behalf of the UP community: May your tenure bring positive transformation, foster peace, and uplift the lives of all Kenyans. We wish you strength, resilience and success as you work to build a brighter future for Kenya.
Congratulations to three-time UP alumna Dr Lizette Spangenberg, whose Talk was recently named a TEDx Talks Editor’s Pick and shared with the group’s 41.8 million YouTube followers. “It was extremely exciting and surreal finding out that my talk was selected,” she said. “It's any researcher's dream to reach as wide an audience as possible, and I'm humbled that something I'm so passionate about has been this well-received. My talk explored how human-centred design can be used to create better healthcare solutions, which is what I'm extremely passionate about.”
In her talk, she presents a case study she did as part of her PhD research, which looked at how prioritising the human element revolutionises healthcare solutions. The study took place in a South African public hospital and reveals how empathetic understanding can transform a radiology environment. Dr Spangenberg holds a BA, MA and PhD in Information Design.
