Our evolutionary Head of Transformation for the 2022/2023 term, Michael Maepa 🔥⚖️

He explains that while the Society aims to develop crucial legal skills of our mooters that will aid them in practice, we simultaneously focus on transformation. Due to this, we are an inclusive Society that embraces everyone, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation or disability. 🥰

Thank you for all of the hard work you have put into the Society this far. We are very excited to see what you have in store with this portfolio in 2023, and we wish you well for the rest of your term ☺️

Our compassionate Head of Outreach for the 2022/2033 term, Michaela Du Buisson 😇⚖️

Michaela touches on the projects she will be working on this year, which includes working with international companies in assisting those with disabilities to achieve their aspirations.🥹

Outreach is very close to Michaela’s heart and through this video it is evident just how much she cares. Thank you very much for being a part of our team this year and for your contributions to the community as well as the UP Moot Society. We wish you well for the rest of your term 🥰

Our vivacious Head of the Subcommittee for the 2022/2023 term, Liyah Singh ⭐️⚖️

Liyah explained how you can contribute to the Society as a subcommittee member. As a subcom member, you can volunteer to bailiff (or time-keep) for our various competitions, assist with outreach runs and assist our Executive Committee members. She also stresses that the subcom is for those who aren’t yet comfortable with public speaking, and is place to form great relationships with your fellow law students. 👩🏽‍🤝‍👨🏾👩🏼‍🤝‍👩🏽👨🏻‍🤝‍👨🏽

Our accomplished Senior League Coordinator for the 2022/2023 term, Kate Metzer 🔥⚖️

The Senior League competition is one of the Society’s internal mooting competitions and is for experienced motors who have participated in at least one moot competition. You should definitely join us in-person for the rounds because Kate is going to make sure this year’s competition is a banger👩🏽‍⚖️She explains how this year’s competition is going to focused on fetal alcohol syndrome and some other aspects of medial law. 💉🏥🩺

Our scrupulous First Year League Coordinator for the 2022/2023 term, Nyasha Jawa 👨‍🏫⚖️

He explains what the First Year League concerns and how beneficial it is to first-year law students in their studies and overall career. Nyasha also stresses that first-years will be guided and supported every step of the way in this competition by their coaches. If you are a first-year, we urge you to participate in this foundational competition to establish and grow essential legal knowledge skills. 📝🧑‍⚖️

Last week’s movie night was a blast! 🍿🎬🎞️ The movie, “African Moot”, is based on the Christof Heyns African Moot Court Competition and was a brilliant watch.

We hosted our Executive Committee members as well as Gauteng Universities with Moot Societies including Wits, UNISA, Varsity College Sandton and Varsity College Waterfall. Thank you so much for your attendance🤗

Thank you to everyone, from the bailiffs, to our external competition teams, to every single Executive Committee member over the years, for dedicating their time and bettering the society through your involvement and/or participation - it is because of everyone’s combined efforts that we were even able to attain such stellar achievements 🔥🏆

Our performance this year has bettered tenfold from that of last year, with the society then placing:
2nd in South Africa
2nd in Africa
121st in the World

This is a win for the society as a whole! Thank you, thank you, and thank you again ❤️
