Lisa Jansen van Vuuren in Grade 5 participated in the Gauteng Championships for Women’s Artistic Gymnastics🤸🏽‍♀️ today. She placed 3rd and received a bronze medal🥉 for her Vault. She was also awarded her Gauteng colours. She qualified to represent Gauteng at the South Africa Gym Games, which take place in Cape Town in September.

This week the three College houses as well as two matric teams battled it out in the annual Inter-house Quiz. Balmoral topped the scoreboard for most of the quiz with Inverness hot 🔥 on their heels. In the final moments, Inverness streaked ahead and in a nail-bitingly close finish, won first place. 🥇

The Sepedi students’ excursion to Setšong Tea Crafters was indeed an amazing experience which exceeded expectations. The trip gave us a wonderful insight on the Sepedi culture and language as a whole. We learnt more about the Bapedi culture and the traditional foods. The indigenous games that were played gave us an insight into how the children kept themselves busy.

It was really beautiful to see how Setšong Tea came to be and seeing the Pedi tribe thrive. The day was full of smiles 🙂and lots of fun and of course couldn't have been that way without the welcoming people at Setšong Tea Crafters, Ms Tlamama and Ms Fourie. Sepedi se ya rocka!

The IsiZulu students’ trip to Lesedi Cultural Village was a wonderful experience. Learning and being exposed to different African cultures made each and every student realise how important it is to love and value our Heritage and where we come from. The beauty in every traditional dance was amazing. The excursion was a fun experience and brought us together to honour the diversity of African culture and to give people the confidence to wear their stories with pride.

Enda Phomane in Grade 10 was invited by SACEE ( South African Council of English Education) at the Iziko Museum in Cape Town to present her poem as part of a programme to commemorate Youth Day. Enda's poem was selected to be published in "English Live" in 2023 and this year was selected to be part of the Youth Day celebration. 🎊

The museum planned a varied programme featuring well-known personalities and we are so proud that one of our students was invited to be part of the programme. 👍🏽

We started the day with a visit to the Walter Battiss Museum in Somerset East before driving to our final destination. The first day in Makhanda was an exciting one. The students got the opportunity to explore the town and enjoy a meal at the Village Green. Their first show was an impactful, thought-provoking and emotionally charged examination of racism in South Africa thirty years after the end of Apartheid. We look forward to what the festival has to offer.

After a night at Aandmusik in Bloemfontein, the Makhanda Arts Tour group 👩🏽‍🎨 made its way to Nieu Bethesda on Sunday where they visited the Kitching Fossil Museum and searched for fossils in the riverbed. They arrived at Weltevreden Farm tired but happy. Jenny’s comforting homestyle cooking👩🏽‍🍳 rounded off a great day.

The Stage 5E children had fun exploring the ELS playground equipment this week. They used their gross motor skills to climb, balance, kick and throw! Learning new foundational skills are always fun in the ELS. 🤪

Student Leadership Summit
SEC Heads, Keira Blake and Sudarshan Reddy represented Reddford House The Hills at the 2024 Student Leadership Summit that was held recently at Hatfield Christian School.
