Since its inception in 2000, Kopanong Student Arts Festival has provided the perfect opportunity for up and coming entertainers to experiment and explore a variety of performance styles and languages in front of a paying audience. Up to 2020, the UP campus buzzed with anticipation as Kopanong drew nearer, culminating in a talent filled, action-packed week in which the pleasures of theatre, performance and film take centre stage. FESTIVAL CALL OUT!!

YES LETS - An experimental festival Call out

The Art Cave in collaboration with The Market Theatre Laboratory calls out for young emerging artists from drama institutions who are in their final year of study or who graduated in the last five(5) years who have a work in progress that has the potential to be developed into a full production to apply and be part of the YES LETS experimental festival that will take place at The Market Theatre Laboratory’s Ramolao Makhene Theatre in September.

Do you have a work in progress that has the potential to be a full production? If yes, you are invited to apply. Give your work a test run with an audience at the festival.

- All theatrical pieces to be a maximum length of 20 minutes.

- Maximum cast of five(5)
:Please submit a full list of cast and creative team

If you have a script you are also welcome to apply, but to be selected you should present a performative reading which will be further developed into a performance for the festival.

Submission requirements:

1.A paragraph about yourself and what inspires your work

- also include where you graduated and where you are residing

2. A maximum of One page about your piece that you are applying for.

- Also include the themes covered in the piece

3. Motivation letter, why should your project be selected

YES LET'S experiment and bring your idea to life.

Our Story

Since its inception in 2001, Kopanong has provided students and young artists the opportunity to showcase their original creative work in any language and any genre. The festival has shape-shifted over the years, but its central aims remain: to develop an entrepreneurial mindset; to create integration with real-time, real-life activities to facilitate an easier shift towards an economically active professional world; and to create a network with peers that can support each other in a very competitive working world. For the past seighteen years, the UP campus buzzed with anticipation as Kopanong drew nearer, culminating in a talent filled, action-packed week in which the pleasures of theatre, performance and film take centre stage.

The festival, a project of UP Drama Department, l takes place at the University of Pretoria Hatfield Campus.
