How can you exist in ecstatic bliss when you don’t feel the pleasure of the moving body, the energy that runs through it, the heart that beats a billion beats, the pelvic floor muscles that squeeze on demand…

Existing ecstatically doesn’t make sense to the on lookers because pleasure and bliss is contained to the bedroom. Well not in my world 😄 in my world I tap in and out of bliss and ecstasy and pleasure on demand, my breath and my body takes me there… it’s energy baby 😉
I love that I am weird, I love that I do alternative things, I love that I am open to exploration 🔥✌🏼

Why does our breathing affect our spinal health, organ health and pelvic floor.
Diaphragmatic breathing is probably the most important basic ‘mechanics’ or function for the human body.
If our breathing is not at its most functional we won’t be either.

I can’t wait to tie this all in together and take you all through a beautiful breath/body meditation for nervous system and muscular system release.

Know yourself to heal yourself to evolve our species to that of connection and love.

We often get told that we need to strengthen our pelvic floor but what does this even mean?
Connecting to this part of our body not only has amazing effects for pelvic and spinal stability but profoundly affects our connection to self, to our energy and our nervous system.
Hope you enjoy practicing self connection.

“When you love what you do you’ll never work a day in your life”.
We are so fortunate to have the ability to use Aqua therapy to help heal.
Treating in the water gives people the opportunity to move in a way that land could restrict them, plus it’s great for:

- calming the nervous system 🧘🏻‍♀️

- building strength with less impact 💪🏾

- hydrostatic pressure of water reduces pain and edema which helps with mobility 🤸🏾‍♀️

- this hydrostatic pressure also makes the heart and lungs work harder which is great for treating chronic diseases ❤️

- excellent for treating neuromuscular diseases 🧠

- ideal for reducing chronic pain such as arthritis and fibromyalgia ♨️

Full Ironman & ultra distance running season is here. Electrolytes play a crucial role in athletic performance. Read the points below to see why & how you can benefit from maintaining a healthy balance.

So what, exactly, are electrolytes? They are minerals in your blood, including calcium, chloride, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, and sodium, that carry an electrical charge – if you remember your chemistry, they occur naturally as ions, and carry a positive or a negative charge. Electrolytes are critical for muscle function, without sufficient amounts in the body, muscle weakness and severe muscle contractions (cramps) may occur. Electrolytes are also critical for maintaining your blood pH, maintaining cell wall integrity, and the amount of water in your body.
We lose electrolytes when we exercise as we get dehydrated, in fact, as your body starts to get low on electrolytes, that's what triggers the thirst mechanism.
A healthy diet is the best way to maintain electrolyte balance, however, physically active individuals may require electrolyte supplementation.
A lot of popular sports drinks say they replenish electrolytes, and that's true. Most of them are also chock full of unhealthy sugars, preservatives and food dyes.
If you want to be sure you're getting the electrolytes your body needs, you can buy a much healthier electrolyte supplement. Many companies make your their own brand of concentrates that, over the long run, are cheaper and provide a better blend of electrolytes, without the unhealthy additives, preservatives, or calories.
Secondly, it's really simple to make your own electrolyte solution. All you need is citrus (lemons, limes, oranges), a liquid medium (coconut water is an excellent choice, but water works too), a pinch of salt (mineralized or sea salt), and something to sweeten it up, like honey or stevia.

HOW AND WHY FASCIA TIGHTENS
Great read for those who like to understand more!

Fascia is made up of collagen, elastin and gooey liquid. Electrical impulses are transmitted through the fascia to various muscles and organs. It also facilitates energy conversions into various states.

Emotions and thoughts both, conscious and unconscious, move from the brain into the body through these nerve impulses and travel deep into our connective tissue. Here, emotions seep into the cells of our body causing tension by reducing circulation = blockage of energy flow. ⚖️

It tightens and toughens in response to any kind of stress; physical, environmental or psychological.
This can result in numbness, heaviness, stiffness and swelling of the joints and muscles causing inflammation = fascia thickening.
When your posture closes for an extended period, pressure through the crystalline ground substance signals special cells within your fascia to produce more fiber. This causes overlapping fascial sheaths to adhere to one another.

These restrictions in body movements brings on a feeling of “stuckness” manifesting fear, withdrawal or separation. In order for the body to release the emotional energy from the fascia, the connective tissue needs to move.
While the body moves through these restrictions, rolled out with a foam roller or released by hands on techniques (by a qualified therapist) you manifest movement in your life. As the fascia softens, fresh blood starts to flow where hardened muscles previously squeezed the blood out.
Fascia tissue begins to separate from each other, calming the nervous system and relaxing the body/mind.
This is partly how our emotions and state of mind manifests our physical body. 🌌🌅

IN THE VIDEO SHANE SHOWS US HOW TO FOAM ROLL SOME OF THE MOST IMPORTANT AREAS

27/01/2018

1. Myofascia Is a 3D Matrix: it is continuous, spanning our organs, muscles, joints, bones and nerve fibers.
2. Fascia Is a Force Transmitter: Forces (internal and external) are transmitted and dispersed within the body mostly via the fascial network, reducing localized stress in a particular muscle, joint or bone.
3. Repetition Is Good and bad: fascia can remodel itself (become stiffer and denser) along lines of stress = short-term benefits and long-term consequences. Long-term repetition can make fascia stiffer along the line of stress, but weaker in other directions = higher frequency of tears in the fascia itself or immobility in the surrounding joints when moving in different directions.
4. Fascia Can Contract
Myofibroblasts and mechanoreceptors (Golgi tendon organs, Ruffini endings, Paciniform endings) have also been found in the fascial matrix. They contribute to the smooth-muscle-like contractions and communicate with the central nervous system which helps with stability.
5. Fascia Can Act Independently of the Central Nervous System
Fascia is always under tension as long as gravity is present = human resting myofascial tone. This low-level stabilizing component helps our posture and allows us to perform unconscious movements.
6. Mood Influences Fascia
Our emotions are stored within the body, including the connective tissue. Emotions travel through the fascial web. We then interpret the physiological sensation as anger, affection, love... Physical work will only partially treat an injury unless we recognize that there may be an emotional origin.

Sigmund Freud described the mind as an iceberg, the small tip which peeks above the water is our conscious mind, but the enormous part below is our unconscious mind (the parts of ourselves that are unknown to us). Read our latest blog by Andy Cohen - our and - where she explains how Art Counselling can help to access these unconscious thoughts, which guide a large amount of what we are doing on a daily basis (link here http://bit.ly/2yIubBC ).

Foam Rolling

You have heard of it and most of you have done it before. Here are some helpfull tips on why and how to foam roll.

1. It improves your upper spinal mobility
-Your upper spine can benefit extremely from foam rolling.
-Poor mobility in the upper spine is a common cause of tension in your neck, shoulders, lower back, and hips. This tension leads to bad posture, aches, and pain.
- Foam rolling is an easy way to stretch out your upper back, helping improve your flexibility by loosening up the tissues.
2. It boosts your circulation
-Similar to a sports massage, the distribution of pressure through your body during the rolling motion on the roller improves your circulation by stimulating blood flow to your soft tissues.
-This means that more oxygen is delivered to the rolled out area, which has a healing effect on tender muscles and injurie
3. It’s a runner’s best friend
-Muscle tension is caused by repetitive motion, so runners often struggle with tight leg and hip muscles.
- Foam rolling helps release knots, improves your flexibility, and also decreases your risk of injuries caused by tension in your body.
- Rolling is particularly helpful for runners suffering from iliotibial band related injuries.
4. Slow and Steady
-when it comes to rolling the slower the better
-The quicker you roll the easier it is to miss the tender and knotted parts of the muscle
-When rolling, focus on rolling the entire area slowly and stopping over the painful parts of the muscle, holding it for 30 seconds

Why our team is so special ❤️

The concept of Kintsugi is the core of our latest blog titled 'Considering the Join', which is based on the idea that a flaw or break is part of an object's history and sometimes after repair it is more beautiful than before (although never the same), and with this, perhaps the therapeutic idea that our pain and internal brokenness occupies the same space as growth potential. This blog was written by our new team member Andy Cohen - and - and we would highly recommend you have a read (link here http://bit.ly/2svoKnA ).
