INTERNATIONAL PINOT NOIR DAY
The Villiera Punchion Pinot Noir is an artisanal wine made in small quantities. It is fermented in open “punchions” (400L barrels), hence the name. Spicy and succulent, this wine is elegant yet powerful!

There are over 72 species of heron found in all parts of the world, except at the South Pole. These water birds have a massive wingspan of +- 2 metres and can reach up to 140cm in height but only weigh between 1.5 to 3kg.

The numerous dams in our Wildlife Sanctuary provide the ideal habitat for herons are easily spotted on a Game Drive.

Today is Old Vine Day in South Africa which the Old Vine Project initiated on 1 August 2022. We are fortunate that the plant date of vineyards in South Africa can be verified by the South African Wine Industry Information Systems (SAWIS) back to 1900.

We have three special reserve wines at Villiera that carry the Certified Heritage Seal, indicative of the vineyards being over 35 years old - our Villiera Barrel Fermented Chenin Blanc, Bush Vine Sauvignon Blanc and Villiera Bushvine Gamay Noir. The Gamay Noir is produced from the oldest block of Gamay Noir in South Africa, planted in 1981. An ideal salute to old vines!

The Monro Merlot has steadily earned its pedigree with various accolades and we are certain the 2022 vintage will continue this tradition of excellence!

Bees play a crucial role in our sustainable farming practices at Villiera. We have close to 40 hives on the farm in our bee 'sanctuary' and these pollinators are essential for pollinating our cover crops ensuring healthy soil and robust growth.

We also have the delicious honey from our beehives available to purchase from the Tasting Room.
