We are celebrating Old Vine Day today with three of our Kleine Zalze Old Vine wines!

The Chenin Blanc grape has over the past two decades become synonymous with some of the top wine offerings from South Africa and South Africa has the most extensive plantings of this variety in the world. Chenin Blanc is also one of the country's oldest wine-grape varieties and this has allowed Cape wineries access to old Chenin Blanc vines, the fruit of which adds further gravitas and distinction to the wines made from it.

In South Africa, the official Old Vine Project certifies vineyards of 35 years and older as Heritage Vines, with some 558ha of Old Vine Chenin Blanc found in Stellenbosch. Kleine Zalze manages 95ha of these historical vineyards, making us the largest producer of Stellenbosch Heritage Vineyard Chenin Blanc in the country!

Kleine Zalze's Old Vine Chenin Blanc finds its way into three wines in the current portfolio. The critically acclaimed Family Reserve, Vineyard Selection and the more recently released Heritage Vineyards Old Vine are all led by old vine fruit. The Chenin Blancs in Kleine Zalze's irreverent experimental range of Project Z wines also rely on grapes from these mature vineyards, with the next releases expected later this year.

Taste, sip and savour in this not to be missed walkaround style wine tasting. Explore a wide variety of your favourite wine varietals as the festival will showcase over 60 of the wine producing members of the Stellenbosch Wine Route. Included in the ticket price is a feast of culinary delights. .

The festival is held at the Stellenbosch Town Hall on Friday, August 2nd from 17:00 to 21:00 & Saturday, August 3rd from 14:00 - 18:00. Tickets are available online and priced at R450 - R490 (use voucher code WineFest24).

With winter in full swing, a warming Sunday lunch is just what the doctor ordered! We start Sunday lunch with a hearty “Boontjie sop” with farm bread and bone marrow butter. A nice warm salad of pickled beetroot with crumbed and fried goats cheese dressed with citrus vinaigrette

The main course is warming venison pie with creamy rosemary jus and winter vegetables, followed by traditional sago puddinge with apricot jam and vanilla ice cream.

Sunday Lunch is accompanied by a complimentary glass of Visio Vintners Rosé 2022 or Alliance 2020 - a stunning red blend from Visio Vintners.

🍷 The 2024 Shiraz SA Challenge judging is happening this week, and Cellarmaster RJ Botha is proud to be one of the judges!

The 12th edition of the Top 12 Shiraz, Top 3 Shiraz Blends and Top Shiraz Rosé will be announced on Thursday 15 August.

Kleine Zalze put in a commanding performance at this year’s Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, one of the world’s leading wine competitions, by winning a Grand Gold and three Gold medals.

The Grand Gold went to their newly released Family Reserve Sauvignon Blanc 2022, while Gold medals went to the Vineyard Selection Chardonnay 2023, Vineyard Selection Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 and Vineyard Selection Syrah 2021.

Curry Themed Sunday Lunch at Kleine Zalze!

With the colder weather settling in, there is nothing better than a hearty and warming curry Sunday lunch.

To start your curry journey, we are serving a selection of roti, naan bread & papadams with dips and accompaniments as a starter for the table, followed by Tom yum pumpkin soup with coconut cream.

The main course is a tasty tamarind and masala lamb knuckle curry with coriander basmati rice, fried aubergine, and green beans dressed in mint and yoghurt raita.  Dessert is a traditional Malay koesister with served with a cinnamon, cardamom and star anise custard.
