Tips for Winter Protection ❄️

If you’re wondering whether you need sunscreen during the darker, colder months, you’re not alone. However, UV rays are harmful all year round—even on cloudy days and during winter. The sun’s rays can cause damage and premature aging, even if they don’t feel strong.

Increased Risk of Skin Cancer
Skipping sunscreen in winter increases your skin cancer risk. UV rays are stronger because the ozone layer is thinner, and snow and ice can reflect up to 80% of UV rays. Some studies even suggest that cloudy conditions can amplify UV radiation.

Choosing the Right Sunscreen for Winter
Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen (UVA and UVB) with at least SPF 30 to block 97% of sun rays. For winter activities, especially at higher altitudes, choose a water and sweat-resistant sunscreen with SPF 50 or higher.

Regular Application is Key
Apply sunscreen to all exposed skin, including lips and ears, at least 20 minutes before going outside. Reapply every two hours, or more often if sweating.
