Launch of the Kaypro/Asia technology Minitractor programme.

The Minitractors programme is aimed at increasing productivity of cooperatives and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Zambia.

In an effort to mechanise smallholder farmers, Government in partnership with the National Association for Smallholder Farmer (NASFA) have launched the Kaypro/Asia Technology Minitractor programme.
The Minitractors programme is aimed at increasing productivity of cooperatives and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Zambia by them accessing the equipment which are manufactured by the Asia Technology Company Limited of Japan.
Acting Minister of Small and Medium Enterprise Development Frank Tayali said Government will ensure about 15,000 smallholder farmers and farmer groups have access to the minitractors by mid-2024.
Speaking at the launch today, Mr Tayali said the programme seeks to support the New Dawn Government’s efforts to mechanise smallholder farmers in Zambia.
“It is our intention to mechanise as many smallholders’ farmers as possible. We have made this an objective in the Eighth National Development Plan (8NDP) and specifically, we have created a product to support agricultural mechanisation under the Citizens Economic Empowerment Commission (CEEC).
“Therefore, with the launch of Asia Technology Multi-Cultivators through NASFA, we have found support for her initiative,” he said.
Mr Tayali said government is hopeful that this technology will enhance production and productivity.
The Minister said not long ago President Hakainde Hichilema challenged famers involved in the production of maize to raise the bar and production to 10 million metric tonnes annually.
He added that the Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprise Development welcomes Asia Technology to Zambia and shall support their partnership with NASFA through its special purpose vehicle called Kaypro Enterprises,” .
Ministry of Agriculture Director Chizumba Shepande said the programme speaks to the mechanisation strategy of Government.
Dr Shepande said increased access to mechanisation will help improve productivity in turn enhance the country’s food security.
Earlier, NASFA executive director Frank Kayula said the association engaged the company to maintain the price of the minitractors so that many smallholder farmers can access them.
Dr. Kyula said the mini tractors will be selling at about US$4,000 and the association has since engaged the financial sector on the programme.
And Bankers Association of Zambia executive committee member Kuldip Paliwal said initiative such as this mechanism is a means to help support farmers and minimise the bottlenecks in the agriculture sector.
Mr Paliwal said improve farm technologies are efforts that can increase productivity and food production which will in turn enhance food security and promote sustainable household income

 Government plans to establish an electric Battery manufacturing center in Ndola

 The Ndola Industrial yard will comprise of 10 Units and Stands operating businesses ranging from art paintings to tie and dye chitenge outfits, sculpture to pottery, embroidery to crafts, graphic designing and printing to wood processing, bolt & nuts manufacturing to mineral testing, gemstone processing, and gold processing.

 The Ndola Industrial Yard, will make a meaningful contribution to Zambia’s development agenda, aligning seamlessly with the 8th national development plan's strategic development areas of economic transformation and job creation, human and social development, as well as environmental sustainability

 Government is confident that through prudent utilization of the facilities Jobs will be created and communities will be uplifted

 Governments vision for Industrial Yards extends far beyond mere infrastructure; it is about being part of the economic development agenda and adding value to Zambia’s abundant natural resources

 The Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprise Development, through CEEC embarked on the ambitious journey to construct industrial yards and since 2022, successfully been construct a total number of eight (8) Industrial Yards with seven (7) commissioned

 Copperbelt has the privilege to host two yards strategically located in Kitwe and Ndola. The two towns have shown to be in the forefront of Economic activities and is privileged to host two yards

 The Minister emphasized the mantra of “export quality” in all sectors.

MTN Zambia -MSMED ink MoU

The Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprise Development today entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with MTN Zambia aimed at empowering and uplifting Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) by leveraging the combined strengthens of the two institutions.

The three years Memorandum of Understanding will also focus on providing vital support in market linkages, trade facilitation,access to finance among others.

Kafue Industrial Yard and CEEC Lusaka Provincial Office Commissioned.

Minister of Small and Medium Enterprise Development Honourable Elias Mubanga today graced the Commissioning ceremony that took place in Kafue District.

The Industrial Yard located in the Lusaka South Multi-Facility Economic Zone is expected among other things to spur economic development and bring about Job creation.

The Industrial Yard will serve as a platform for businesses to establish their operations, manufacture products and facilitate trade.
