By Wells Chifunda

Coca-Cola Zambia has launched a new bottle for the lemon lime flavored soft drink known as Sprite.

Speaking when he unveiled the new sparkling sprite bottle in Lusaka, Coca-Cola Beverages Zambia General Manager Herbert Nuwamanya says the shift from the green bottle to the clear transparent disposable bottle is another step taken towards a more sustainable waste free environment as the new bottle is easily recycled compared to the old green disposable one.

Mr Nuwamanya has disclosed that the key reasons for the change is to enhance plastic collection and recycling in Zambia and archive the global vision of having a world free of waste.

He further stated that the new packaging will also allow his company to work with partners in the recycling industry, waste collectors and aggregators in the recycling industry.

Meanwhile, Coca-Cola Beverages Zambia Public Affairs Communications and Sustainability Director Fronscen Chisanga has explained that there is no change made to the product as the sprite in the green plastic bottle is the same drink in the new transparent bottles and that the product in the green pack will continue to be on the shelves during the transition period.

Ms.Chisanga adds further that the green glass bottle will however not be affected in any way as it is returnable and reusable.

This means Sprite will now be packaged in a transparent disposable plastic bottle and not the known green disposable Plastic bottle while the green glass bottle remains the way it is as it is returnable and reusable.

Zambia's Health System Requires Holistic Approach To Achieve Universal Health Service Delivery

By Christopher Kalumba

The Health system management needs a very strong concerted efforts in order to achieve a holistic approach in our health service delivery agenda in our county. The system of considering each profession to be a very important factor in achieving the desired health outcome. A good Health management system should not always assume that one specific profession can lead a management role at health facility, Hospital level, District level or even at provincial level.

In Zambia we have assumed a Nurse should be the incharge at the health facility while we have other professions who can take a lead of a incharge as well. A Clinical officer, Pharmacist, Biomedical Scientist, Public Health Scientist and many other health profession can be the incharge what is needed is a management background.

The incharge position is a management position meaning any health worker at the health facility can be the incharge provided he or she has management background skill. We need to accept the reality that those with management qualifications should start leading management positions in the ministry of health in order to avoid profession rivalry.

We should not assume as well that medical doctors are better managers in the ministry of health and we start assuming that, distinct director or provincial director should always be a medical doctor.

Let management position be left to any health worker with a management qualifications. ..

Let all health profession be equal to lead management positions provided they have management background.

Even at the Ministry of Health Head Quarters we need such balance of people holding directorate positions and not just giving them to Medical doctors.

The Permanent Secretary position can be taken to any health worker with a management skill and not just Medical Doctors.

The challenge in our health system in Zambia we have let Medical Doctors to lead management positions and planing and this as resulted to have a very skewed approach in our health service delivery approach.

The example is of the recruitment of 11,200 health workers we had for example we saw a very big number to those coming from curative than those who can from the preventive profession, this is because our health system is more controlled from the curative side profession. We see Medical doctors taking a lead in most management position.

Universal health coverage or the target of Primary health care can only be achieved when holistic approach to health service delivery is respected.

In Zambia, elephants are vital to the economy through the international and domestic tourism industry which provides employment opportunities in safari lodges, hotels, restaurants, transport companies, airlines etc.

In addition to their value to the economy, elephants are also a keystone species in the ecosystem and play an important role in balancing natural ecosystems.

They trample forests and dense grasslands, making room for smaller species to co-exist.
Elephants also create water holes used by other wildlife as they dig dry riverbeds when rainfall is low. Herds travel over vast rangelands, and they disperse seeds in their dung, which helps generate new green growth.

More Young People Get Salvation In The Last Two Years- Evangelist Du Toit

By Roving reporter, Tito Kalama

Despite the moral decay being consumed through social media,South African-American Pentecostal Evangelist Daniel Du Toit believes that there is hope for this generation as more young people have embraced God in two years than in the last thirty years.

Speaking upon arrival at the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport in Lusaka,Evangelist Daniel who has visited Zambia before said the country is his favorite and that its loved by God as its people are thirsty for God’s word.

Evangelist Daniel believes that God is doing great things in Africa.

When asked about evangelism dying with the likes of late Pentecostal evangelist Richard Bonnke, the young preacher said the word of God is being spread to the nations more than ever.

He said despite the ravages of COVID-19 in the past two years evangelism is being accelerated as evidenced by young men of God like him preaching the gospel.

When asked about critics of Zambia having been declared a Christian nation,Daniel said there is nothing wrong with that for as long as the country’s leaders declared it.

He noted that Zambia has good men of God everywhere and that a few bad apples cannot override the Christian nation declaration.

He also touched on the growing phenomenon of miracle and prophecy gospel in Africa by saying that the two should be balanced.

However,he warned that being dependent on one can bring about misunderstandings and that the gospel of Jesus should be simple.

The Evangelist is in the country for a series of crusades under ‘Take The Nations’ in conjunction with Ng’ombe Minister’s Fellowship.

After turning to God as a teenager while in South Africa he underwent training under the late Reinhard Bonnke American who was renowned for his great gospel crusades throughout Africa including Zambia.

Just before he died he had instructed Daniel to come and preach the gospel in Zamba particularly Kitwe.

By Roving reporter

With glaring statistics indicating that illegal wildlife trade impacts more than 7,000 species of animals and plants every year, the Zambian government has today launched an illegal wildlife trade awareness campaign focusing on the country’s biggest ports of entry.

Speaking at the official launch of the campaign dubbed ‘worth more alive ’ at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport,Minister of Tourism,Rodney Sikumba said President Hakainde Hichilema has placed tourism as a key sector for economic diversification and job creation.

Mr Sikumba said Zambia’s high value wildlife species continue to be threatened by illegal wildlife trade, which is a multi-million dollar global industry.

“Statistics indicate that the illegal wildlife trade is the fourth most lucrative black market industry in the world, impacting more than 7,000 species of animals and plants every year.

“To this effect, countries such as Zambia with significant wildlife populations, continue to daily battle to keep its wildlife safe from poaching fueled by this illicit trade,” Mr Sikumba said.

He noted that Zambia being a regional hub makes it attractive to both tourists and criminals alike.

He said the ministry through the Department of National Parks and Wildlife (DNPW) and other corporating partners have dedicated resources to curb poaching and trafficking of wildlife.

He also noted that the launch of the ‘worth more alive’ campaign will spread the message of the wildlife crime prevention from Zambia to the rest of the world.

And Zambia Airports Corporation Limited (ZACL) Manager Harriet Angetile said they partnered with the DNPW and Wildlife Crime Prevention (WCP) in 2020 and trained 224 of its staff across the country on how to identify illegal wildlife products in Zambia’s airports and how to prevent the trafficking of wildlife.

Meanwhile, WCP Awareness Officer Luwi Nguluka said the campaign is the next step in that.

Under the ROUTES partnership, that is the USAID funded “Reducing Opportunities for Unlawful Transport of Endangered Species” partnership which has brought together brought together transport and logistics companies, government agencies, development groups, law enforcement, conservation organizations, academia and donors to disrupt wildlife trafficking activities as witnessed by the launch.

The campaign is the first of its kind for Zambia, born out of a 3-year collaboration between WCP - Wildlife Crime Prevention, Department of National Parks & Wildlife and Zambia Airports Corporation Limited.
