The Cancer Diseases Hospital (CDH) in Lusaka is a fourth level national referral centre for specialized cancer treatment in Zambia and some neighboring countries.
The hospital provides the following services: In and Out patients facility with a bed capacity of 252, Clinical and Radiation Oncology, Paediatric Oncology,
Gynaecologic and Surgical Oncology, Nuclear Medicine, Cancer Epidemiology and Preventive Oncology as well as specialized training.
As a comprehensive cancer treatment centre in Zambia, the hospital has recorded significant achievements over the years.
Since it's commissioning in 2006, the hospital has seen about 40, 000 cancer patients.

Zambia continues to be a leader in the Sub Sahara African region in the World Health Organization (WHO)'s Global Strategy for accelerated cervical cancer elimination.
It is one of the 6 countries in Africa chosen by WHO to demonstrate and implement measures that will lead to cervical cancer elimination.
To this effect, Zambia has vaccinated nearly 50 percent of eligible girls with the HPV vaccine that prevents cervical cancer.
Cervical Cancer screening services are now available in close to 285 health facilities across the country accounting for 95 percent coverage at district level. Over one million women in Zambia have been screened at least once in their life time.

Our patients in the children's ward today received 124 boxes of liquid milk from Women in Action, a Christian faith based organization comprised of pastors' wives who are trained as Cancer counselors.
The Women in Action have been partnering with the Cancer Diseases Hospital in the area of offering spiritual and material support to cancer patients for the past eight years and have offered donations of various items to the hospital.
2023 INTERNATIONAL DAY OF MEDICAL PHYSICS - IDMP
November 7th has been designated as International Day of Medical Physics(IDMP).
This day is observed globally to raise awareness about the importance of Medical Physics in healthcare and it's role in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases.
It serves as an opportunity to reflect on the journey of Medical Physics, express gratitude to those who have made significant contributions in the field and inspire the current generation to carry the torch forward.
It further highlights the collaborative nature of scientific and medical advancements as well as encourages the global medical physics community to embrace their roles in shaping the nature of health care.
This year's IDMP is being celebrated under the theme, " 60th Anniversary: Standing on the Shoulders of Giants."
As Cancer Diseases Hospital, we join the global community in celebrating all those in the field of Medical Physics.

Testimony from a cancer survivor
On a special day of joy and gratitude, our patients at Cancer Diseases Hospital(CDH) were gifted with a luncheon by Win Electronics in Lusaka who not only pledged to refurbish a bathroom block in the paediatric ward with new toilets, showers and sinks but also bid to stand with government in promoting the provision of quality health care to Zambians. During the same event the patients also received 50 pairs of Crocs and a K2000 from Lencia's Glam as well as a K2500 from Eliss Studio.
Speaking at the event which was officiated by Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary Administration Dr George Sinyangwe and attended by officials from the Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprise Development, CDH as well as other stakeholders, Win Electronics Executive Director and Founder Maybin Simbeye said the donation marked the launch of the "Every Child is a Winner Campaign" which is a corporate social responsibility incentive that seeks to empower less privileged children through financial support.
And speaking as Guest of Honor at the Luncheon, Dr Sinyangwe commended Win Electronics' for it's noble gesture of partnering with Government in uplifting the face of CDH and providing quality health care to the people.
Meanwhile, Director of Cooperatives and Entrepreneurship in the Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprises Development Dr Mweemba Mwiinga commended the company for the good cause encouraging other SMEs in the country to emulate Win Electronics by engaging in corporate social responsibility.
Government through the Ministry of Health has engaged Siemens Healthineers in the rehabilitation and re-equipping of the Cancer Diseases Hospital in Lusaka. During a site visit meeting between the ministry and Siemens Healthineers held at Cancer Diseases Hospital in Lusaka today, Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary Technical Services, Dr Kennedy Lishimpi said Government has already secured funds for the project. He said works to rehabilitate and re- equip the hospital are expected to commence by early next year and will involve replacement of all imaging and radiotherapy machines.
Meanwhile, the PS said, as the replacement of the equipment will be going on, the hospital will continue providing other services such as chemotherapy, surgery and palliative care adding that In and Out Patient services will continue to operate 24hrs as per schedule during that period.

Ministry of Health acting Permanent Secretary Administration, Dr John Kachimba today officiated at the combined graduation ceremony for Chilonga and Michael Chilufya Saata Schools of Nursing at Chilonga Mission in Mpika, Muchinga province. This was during his visit to Mpika where he also officiated at the commemoration of the October Cancer Awareness month and the launch of the second National Cancer Control Strategic Plan. The acting PS was officiating on behalf of the Minister of Health, Hon. Sylvia T. Masebo.

LAUNCH OF THE SECOND NATIONAL CANCER CONTROL STRATEGIC PLAN 2022 TO 2026
Zambia today witnessed the launch of the second National Cancer Control Strategic Plan for 2022 to 2026 . Ministry of Health Acting Permanent Secretary for Administration, Dr John Kachimba officiated at the launch ceremony which took place at Chilonga Mission General Hospital in Mpika.
In his official speech, Dr Kachimba acknowledged that October is also Breast Cancer Awareness month.

PRESS RELEASE ON NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER.
Good evening fellow citizens.
The nation will tomorrow, 18th October, 2023 commemorate the National Day of Prayer, Fasting, Repentance, and Reconciliation under the theme: "Building Zambia for Greater Development Through Prayer, Unity and Hard Work (Proverbs 14:23 and Chronicles 12:32).”
This is an important day on the national calendar, which is also a public holiday. On this day, we reflect on the love and Lordship of God and how he has blessed us and kept us together as a nation in peace and unity.
The National Day of Prayer, Fasting, Repentance, and Reconciliation also comes six (6) days before Zambia turns 59 of independence, a period marked by stability in our journey and transitions from one Government to another. We can only attribute this to God who has favoured us and lavished us with his love that has made it possible for us to stand together as a nation.
At national level, a church service will be held at the Show Grounds in Lusaka starting at 09:00 hours to which members of the public are cordially invited. The service will also bring together leaders at various levels and persuasions including religious communities in collective prayer and thanksgiving on how the Lord has led us this far as a nation. The day will also provide an opportunity for the nation to seek God’s divine intervention and guidance in our continued forward match in building our nation.
The event will be replicated at provincial and district levels, where Zambians from all walks of life are expected to gather in various places to commemorate this important day.
Government reaffirms its commitment to the importance of the National Day of Prayer, Fasting, Repentance, and Reconciliation to the nation and invites the participation of all Zambians in observing this important Day.

Invasive breast cancer refers to breast cancer that spreads from the original site to other areas of the breast such as the lymph nodes or elsewhere in the body.
Symptoms of Invasive Breast Cancer may include:
A lump or mass in the breast
Swelling of the whole or part of the breast, even if no lump is felt
Skin irritation or dimpling
Breast or ni**le pain
Ni**le retraction (turning inward)
The ni**le or breast skin appears red, scaly, or thickened
Ni**le discharge
A lump or swelling in the under arm lymph nodes

As a global effort to raise awareness on breast cancer, October has been designated as the pink month. This is the month where efforts to educate those concerned about the disease inclusive early identification ,signs and symptoms associated with breast cancer are intensified.
To commemorate this Month, the Ministry of Health through Cancer Diseases Hospital is conducting free breast cancer screening among other awareness activities lined up.
Members of the public are therefore encouraged to take up this opportunity and participate in the free breast cancer screening currently being conducted at the Cancer Diseases Hospital.
Free screening for breast, prostate and cervical cancer throughout the month of October from 9am to 4pm every day weekends inclusive.

During this month of October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Cancer Diseases Hospital is offering free breast cancer screening, free cervical and prostate cancer screening as well as health information on the different types of cancers.
Come and be screened and take the opportunity to learn more about the signs, symptoms and ways to reduce the risks of getting cancer. Services will be provided everyday of the week including weekends (Monday to Sunday) from 9am to 4pm (09:00hrs to 16:00hrs).
