Good morning UZ family. Yesterday we have managed to get in touch with the Registrar after a plethora of students approached the Union concerning their failure to sit for their exams due to lack of Current Semester IDs. Because of time, we couldn’t deliberate fully on the subject because it was after working hours, so he requested us to write everything on paper then we send it to him. We have also approached the Asset Protection Department to stop thwarting students to enter the exam room. Our position as ZINASU is very sound and vivid, every student is going to write the exams and that one we can presumptuously assure you. Take heart and believe in us. We will never disappoint.

In a shrinking or rather a depleted and depreciated democratic and political space, the voice of students and any other other activists is being thwarted by the state machinery. 5 ZINASU Comrades are on pre-trial incarceration following their arrest mid May as they are facing charges of defacing buildings in Harare. The state has failed to provide any evidence that ties our Comrades to the crime but they find themselves languishing in prison. The state witnesses are failing to give coherent statements yet the bail application is being prolonged.

As dramatic as the state is they are trying to frustrate the student, at first it was the unwarranted changing of court rooms, followed by the disappearance of the public prosecutor as she claimed to have pneumonia and on the same day when she came she claimed that she wanted to answer the nature's call and prolonged her stay in the ablution at the expense of our comrades' freedom. As if the constitution doesn't state that bail applications are urgent Matters the case at hand has been prolonged for no apparent reason. We will continue to give solidarity and fight for the release of the ZINASU 5 as the state is posing a risk to their academic life, they are highly likely to miss their exams if the state continues to act in this hullabaloo manner.Lets us continue to show our Cdes solidarity in these hard times.

It should be known that if the state doesn't respect our existence they should expect our resistance.

anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere!!!

Today the appeared at Harare Magistrate court for the Sept 2022 fees must fall campaign. As usual the state could not provide any witness for the fourth time despite them claiming to have a lot of witnesses. They will be back to court on 25 July

Revolutionary greetings fellow students.

As you are aware that four UZ students were arrested last week and today marks the 7th day since this unconstitutional arrest.

They will be appearing at Harare magistrate court tomorrow at 08:30. Therefore we are calling upon all progressive and conscious students to attend in solidarity.

As John Lewis once said"When you see something that is not right, not fair, not just, you have to speak up. You have to say something; you have to do something.”

You may fail to say something but we can do something by just attending in solidarity 👏👏

‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️

In the quest to fight for freedom and against injustices particularly the release of Job Sikhala, Jacob Ngarivhume and other prisoners of conscience 4 of our Comrades were arrested on the 17th of May 2023. At their initial bail hearing the state behaved in its usual way and postponed the matter to Wednesday 24 May 2023.

I would want to appreciate the Comrades who came in solidarity at Rottenrow Magistrate court. Our fight for a better Zimbabwe is Unabated. I urge all those who can attend to come to the bail hearing of our Comrades on the 24th. Solidarity is the backbone of any revolution and let's show our brothers that in happiness and in despair we will stand by their corner.

Hazel Gwande

Vice Chairperson
