Her Dress and Exercise Room was a place where Sisi spent a lot of time. It is therefore touching to see that she surrounded herself here with photos and depictions of her family. 🖼️

💡 These show many different personalities from her Bavarian and Habsburg families. They include eccentric family members such as the Habsburg Archduke Ludwig Salvator, who lived an autonomous life on Majorca and with whom Elisabeth felt an especial affinity.

Elisabeth's marriage placed her at the summit of court hierarchy, and from then on her life was determined by strict protocol. 🪭

In the room "At Court" in the Sisi Museum, you can see two reconstructions of gowns that illustrate the transformation from Bavarian princess to empress.

💍 The dress that Sisi wore at a ball in Munich shortly before her departure to marry Franz Joseph (on the right, back side of the photo).

👑 The second dress is a reproduction of the gown that she wore at her coronation as Queen of Hungary.

🌹👑 Sisi developed from a highly shy young woman into an independent, proud empress with a strong will in the course of her life. This drawing shows Sisi as a bride with a velvet necklace and a wreath of roses.

You can see a true-to-original construction of her velvet ribbon in the Sisi Museum. ✨

What about an imperial Jour Fix? ✨ This room was used for the ministerial conferences which were always chaired by the emperor. Here, decisions were made that have shaped European history.

Of course, the meetings had an official character - as they followed a strict protocol. For example, the duty aide-de-camp announced the presence of the ministers to the emperor, as they entered the room. 📜

🌴 Empress Maria Theresia not only had rooms in Schönbrunn but also in the Hofburg painted with illusionistic landscapes by the landscape painter Johann Wenzel Bergl.

💡The Bergl Rooms were created around 1766 and were used as a cloakroom in Sisi's time.

A splendid decor, don't you think? 💫

✨ In the dining room at the imperial apartments, you can see a laid table from the time of Franz Joseph. In addition to the official dinners, which took place three times a week, the imperial family met in private every Sunday.

👑 Every member of the family staying in Vienna had to attend; excuses were only accepted in exceptional cases. In contrast to the public dinners, at which the family kept a low profile, the private circle was very lively.

🥇 The gym and toilet room formed the centrepiece of Sisi's apartment in the Hofburg, as she spent most of her time there. After getting up at 6 a.m., she devoted most of her morning routine to hair care and also performed small gymnastics exercises. The wall bars, the horizontal bar and the rings in the doorway to the Grand Salon have been preserved to this day.

🛁 Adjacent to the toilet room is Sisi's bathroom, which is equipped with a bathtub made of galvanised sheet copper and the original linoleum floor

👑🤝 How diligent! In the course of Emperor Franz Joseph's life, he received up to 260,000 people standing in the Hofburg. However, in private, the emperor kept a simple lifestyle. He slept in a brown, iron, portable bed after the imperial couple had moved into separate bedrooms.

👸🏻 In his study, a portrait of Sisi with her hair down, painted by Franz Xaver Winterhalter, stands on an easel in front of his desk. Numerous photographs of the children and grandchildren hang on
the walls.

✨ The Grand Salon served Franz Joseph as a reception room for family visits. A painting of the emperor in the regalia of the Order of the Golden Fleece hangs here, as well as a portrait of Crown Prince Rudolph, for which he modelled shortly before his death.

After Emperor Franz Joseph moved into a separate bedroom in 1870, this magnificent room served as Empress Elisabeth's living room and bedroom.

✨ A few original objects in this room, owned by Sisi, were bequeathed to the museum by her granddaughter, the Red Archduchess.
✨ The iron bed at the back originally stood in the middle of the room behind a screen.
✨ The covers of the upholstered furniture are currently being restored.

👑 : At the imperial apartments, you can see two portraits that show Emperor Franz Joseph as a younger monarch and in his later years.

👉 Franz Joseph experienced many upheavals and huge changes during his 68-year reign over the Habsburg Empire. Progress also brought about groundbreaking developments at a time when old and new existed side by side.

There are even recordings of the old emperor's voice - you can listen to it on the audio guide during your visit of the Sisi Museum. 🎧

👑 Step up and right into the world of yesterday: Each member of the imperial family once had their own apartment or suite in one of the numerous wings of the Hofburg.

Back then, of course, the high-born did not know that centuries later, people from all over the world would visit the former imperial apartments of Franz Joseph and Elisabeth - every day. Our visitors even take the same route as the emperor, up the Emperor's Staircase. 👣

What do you think of this beautiful view right at the beginning of your journey here at the Sisi Museum? ✨
