SA born reedsman Duncan Hemstock has made the trip over from London to present the music from (and originals inspired by) one of the greatest jazz albums of all time: Ben And Sweets. Recorded in 1962, it featured two of the master soloists of the swing era in Ben Webster and Sweets Edison who were wonderfully accompanied by Hank Jones, George Duvivier and Clarence Johnston. Swingin’!
Now living in London, Duncan is relishing the many opportunities to perform for dancers and concert audiences alike throughout the UK and Europe. He brings his joy for life and music to every performance, always delivering with a smile and a cheeky quip or two. His clarinet playing is not only influenced by Goodman, but also the fiery intent of Edmond Hall, while his tenor saxophone approach is inspired by the great Lester Young.

The Non Compliance Trio:
Barney McAll - Piano
Dylan Paul - Bass
Jackson Mack - Drums

Grammy nominated, ARIA-winning artist, Barney McAll, is one of Australia's most innovative musicians and composers. For his "Non Compliance" Trio, he unites two talented rising stars to explore a mix of brand-new original music and obscure old-world gems.

From soulful performances to captivating compositions, Barney's portfolio is astounding: he has contributed to over 100 albums, created 25 solo works, and joined forces with some of music's finest, including Dewey Redman, Gary Bartz, SIA, Kenny Garrett, Maceo Parker, Kurt Rosenwinkel and Fred Wesley.
McAll is partial to unleashing surprises himself, whether they be radical dynamic shifts – such as suddenly reducing a solo to the merest trickle of notes against thrumming bass and whispered cymbal chatter – or just finding bewitchingly unexpected turns to take in developing a melody. Masterful.
SYDNEY MORNING HERALD

“The year’s most exhilarating night of music…McAll cast such a spell at the piano that he even created the illusion of bending notes”
SYDNEY MORNING HERALD

“Adventurous, innovative, super creative and just downright enthralling (and often breathtaking) listen from one of our finest musicians and a superb musical assemblage of talents”

Steve Barry:
..sparkling…as if he were singing about the crests and valleys of the water, as if he were musically following the rhythm of the waves, upswing, downswing, rollover, rolling movement, spray… – JazzHalo
“One of Australia’s most inventive and accomplished composer/improvisers” (Loudmouth), Barry launches his new album In The Waves – recorded in Sydney in 2022 with acclaimed drummer Eric Harland (USA) and saxophonist Will Vinson (USA/UK).
Born out of a pandemic-inspired reconnection with ocean swimming, the music holds physical and philosophical qualities of water as a common thread, and showcases Barry’s trademark “…harmonic adventurousness, melodic resourcefulness, switchback rhythmic ideas and non-bombastic sense of drama” (Sydney Morning Herald).
After an opening sneak preview of a new album of solo piano compositions, Barry will joined by local stalwarts Lyndon Gray on bass and Josh Baldwin on drums in a first outing as a trio.
Dr Steve Barry is a multi-award winning pianist, composer, improviser, and lecturer at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. Born & raised in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland and now living and creating on Gadigal land in Sydney, Barry works across the music industry as a performer, accompanist, educator and consultant. He is the recipient of the 2021 APRA Professional Development Award for Jazz, and works regularly across Australia, New Zealand, Japan and more recently Vietnam.
