Today in Science, students made biodegradable plastic. By manipulating the temperature of vinegar and milk, students were able to create curds from casein molecules (monomers and polymers). These curds were then strained, and molded into spheres. Next week we will begin exploring real world uses for our casein plastic 🌍🔬🧪.
Reminder: School will be closed on these dates.
Register now for reception in 2025!
Today in Science, students used a rate of dissolution, to test a variety of solutes in a warm and cold solvent. We observed a range of physical and chemical reactions that took place during the process. A key piece of learning we took away from this task was that for something to be classified as dissolved, the solvent (cold / hot water) must be transparent, or opaque after mixing.
In Room 9 and Room 11s latest science lessons students explored the captivating properties of magnets. The students applied new vocabulary to describe magnetic force, crafted their own magnetic fishing rods, and are all set to reel in more scientific discoveries about magnetic forces in future weeks! 🎣🧲

Some of the intricately detailed skeletal structures, created by upper primary students during Science last term. Students applied the Engineering Design Process, to create and build animal skeletons 🦴. Students then researched, hypothesised and theorised, about how changes to diets and habitats can affect the skeletal structure of living things. can you work out which animal skeletons are pictured below?
How much do you know about physical and chemical changes? Today, Room 4 applied their learning from weeks 1 and 2, to debate and analyse the scenarios pictured below. Students used the physical and chemical changes table, to classify the changes occurring in each scenario. We had a great success rate, with most students getting over 80% correct! 👊
Room 11 loves going to the vegetable garden to take care of our plants. Look at all the different things we are growing!
Parents are welcome to donate different seeds or plants to our vegetable garden. We love to learn how the plants grow.

In Room 15's Science lesson today, we made butter! We had a fantastic time exploring the chemistry behind butter making, and we used our resilience (and arms) to seperate the fat proteins from the water content in cream. Through our "churning process" we also observed the physical properties of milk, including emulsification
Today in Science, Room 9 watched a live suspension... oil particles bring suspended in water that is! We discussed the impact of oil spills on the environment, and also practised our scientific diagrams.
Welcome back!
Term 2 starts today!

Children are encouraged to come to school with their bathers already on. Please send a change of clothes, especially underwear, for your child to change into when swimming has finished. Please supply an appropriate bag to put your children’s wet bathers and towel in. Naming clothes, bathers, towels and swimming gear helps your child to bring their belongings home.
