The award is open to graduates and tnal year students in the Bachelor of Music (Jazz Performance) from the Elder Conservatorium of Music, University of Adelaide.
Valued at $7,500, this award supports and inspires emerging South Australian jazz musicians to embark on vital career development projects.

We're excited to announce that Annie Siegmann is our 2024 Audio Mentorship Recipient!
Annie will be learning from and assisting our wonderful sound engineer Marty Jones at COMA gigs for the rest of the year.
The Audio Mentorship Program is a unique opportunity to learn the art of engineering in a hands-on live environment, and learn how to deal smoothly with some of the most complex stage resets in the business! Annie comes to us with a plethora of skills as a singer, bassist, songwriter, and composer, all while pursuing a Master of Teaching.
Notable highlights from their career include performing bass with the Russian activist group P***y Riot, serving as a mentor and Gear Manager with Girls Rock! Adelaide, and guiding young musicians at Northern Sound System.
Come say hi and congratulations to Annie at our next gig - Monday the 5th of August ✨

Announcing Ciara Ferguson as the 2024 recipient of the Emerging Jazz Writer’s Award.
Ciara Louise Ferguson is a pianist, composer, singer and teacher living on Kaurna land in Adelaide, South Australia. She is a prolific and dedicated performer and composer, and plans to use the Award to develop an EP of choral jazz music later this year.
General overview of EJWA:
The Creative Original Music Adelaide Emerging Jazz Writer’s Award celebrates an emerging leader in the field of contemporary jazz composition and performance who is female, non-binary or gender diverse. Ciara will receive:
• Two days’ recording at Wizard Tone Studios.
• Mentorship conversations with leading jazz artists
• A paid performance as part of COMA’s regular series.
• Support from COMA committee members in funding application preparation and other career advice
Some praise from the external assessment panel:
Ciara is not only a wonderful performer but a sublime composer and arranger. Ciara is also an excellent mentor and educator and her work with the next generation plays an integral part in her impact and value in the Adelaide jazz scene. Her project will allow her to continue this work with the next generation - spreading the joy of music and jazz.

Alexander Flood is an Adelaide-based drummer, composer, producer and bandleader, who’s music is at the forefront of the Australian nu-jazz and dance scenes. Alex has released three original albums through international labels Stretch Music and Jakarta Records, has collaborated with artists including Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah, Cazeaux OSLO, Horatio Luna, and Àbáse, and has performed his music across Australia and Germany. Alex has also been the recipient of many prestigious awards including most recently the Young Achiever Award at the 2023 Ruby Awards.

‘Neenaw’ (formerly ‘Courteney Hooper Trio’) is an alternative folk project formed by multi-instrumentalist and composer, Courteney Hooper Music.
Neenaw’s sound interweaves ethereal piano-centricity with a generous dusting of classical music, contemporary jazz and the dramatics of musical theatre. Inspired by ridiculous dreams, painful past romances, mental health and wholesome bugs, Courteney's heartfelt compositions invite the audience into an escapist realm of whimsical eccentricity.
Neenaw will be performing as a quartet for the very first time at COMA Emerging Artists this August!
