Last Friday Gleeson College students and staff were invited to wear pyjamas to raise awareness about the importance of sleep ππ΄
Adequate sleep is crucial for teenagers as it supports their physical growth, cognitive development, and emotional stability, all of which are essential for their overall wellbeing. Additionally, consistent sleep patterns help improve academic performance, mental health, and reduce the risk of chronic illnesses ποΈ
On Wednesday, 12 June, Damiani House hosted an awareness event to promote understanding and support for those affected by Motor Neurone Disease (MND). One of the highlights was a quiz conducted during care group time. The challenge was set: if 600 responses were received, House Leaders Mr. Gloria and Mrs. Dwulat would be dunked with ice water at lunchtime βοΈπ§
In addition to the ice dunking, the Damiani House mass, themed around MND, provided a solemn and reflective component to the day's activities. Celebrated by Father Kym Spurling, the mass allowed students and staff of Damiani House to come together in a respectful and contemplative environment. This ceremony offered an opportunity for personal reflection on how MND impacts individuals and families within our community π
Choosing a career can be difficult, and with so many options and pathways available, it can be hard to make informed career decisions. That's why opportunities to gather information and speak to industry professionals, like the One+ Careers Expo held on Thursday, June 6th, at the Golden Grove Arts and Recreation Centre, are so important π¨βπ«
Throughout the morning, our senior students were able to speak with over 40 exhibitors, ranging from trades, electronics, engineering, and health services, as well as tertiary study providers, to learn about the variety of careers available in each sector and how they can attain their career goals π
Last week, the Year 11 Food and Hospitality students put on a high tea style lunch event. The students served paying guests, including staff and family members, a delightful spread of food and drinks π½
From choosing and trialing recipes to preparing and serving the food, the students handled everything thoughtfully. The dining room was also prepared by students with beautifully set and decorated tables π¨βπ³
Our Year 8 cohort recently had an unforgettable experience at the University of Adelaide's Geology Department π¨βπ
This excursion was designed to enhance our students' understanding of key concepts they are currently studying in their Science curriculum, including the rock cycle, plate tectonics, and the geology of other worlds beyond Earth πͺ¨π

Students (and staff) are invited to come to school dressed in their pyjamas, onesies, and oodies as we promote the importance of sleep in our community on Friday 14th June. Adequate sleep is crucial for teenagers as it supports their physical growth, cognitive development, and emotional stability, all of which are essential for their overall wellbeing. Additionally, consistent sleep patterns help improve academic performance, mental health, and reduce the risk of chronic illnesses π΄π
Sleep attire must be appropriate for a school context. For example, no tank tops/exposed midriffs/inappropriate graphics. Students are to wear their sneakers with their pyjamas due to all practical subjects still running as per the timetable π

It was wonderful to see pops of yellow throughout the College as the McDonald House united to create awareness about cancer research and the impact of research on cancer survivors, caregivers, and those fighting the disease. Tragically, with 1 in 2 people being affected by cancer in their lifetimes, we will all be touched by this heartbreaking disease. Research can reduce the impact of cancer in many ways, from early detection to revolutionary treatment options π
We chose to highlight this important cause through the symbol of daffodils and Daffodil Day. Leading up to the event, staff and care groups were invited to write a name or message on a daffodil cutout, which was then submitted to our 'Daffodil Messages Letterbox'. These messages of love were presented and incorporated into our liturgy. The liturgy was meaningful and uplifting, and we extend our gratitude to all the students and teachers involved in the procession and readings. During the liturgy, students also reflected on the efforts of those who participated in Relay for Life earlier this term through a video montage πΌ
Following our liturgy, McDonald House came together to create daffodil artwork and origami, which we will use at future McDonald events. Thank you also to other staff and students who joined in at lunchtime to make a daffodil π
