If your New Year's resolution included exercise, here are some tips to know how long it takes to see results!
To achieve your fitness-related goals remember;
- Heart Rate, improves within a couple of weeks. Resting heart rate can decrease by up to 1 beat/min in sedentary individuals with each week of aerobic training, at least for a few weeks. Other studies have shown smaller reductions with fewer than 5 beats following up to 20 weeks of aerobic training
- Blood Pressure, one study showed that simply increasing your step count can lead to a reduction in systolic blood pressure of ~4 mmHg. This may seem small, but a 5 mmHg drop reduces the chance of death by stroke by 14%! - give this a few weeks to notice
- Aerobic Fitness (aka V02 Max), improves within a month or two
- Muscle Fitness, an individual can see a 25 to 100% improvement in their muscular fitness within three to six months – provided a regular resistance program is followed
- Weight Loss, a study with 52 overweight males and females reported a weight loss of 7% over 16.8 weeks with exercise alone. The amount of activity completed was 7.4 (+/- 0.5) hours per week.
- Mental Health - changes in as little as 10 minutes!
The benefits are endless, remember to stay consistent and keep positive. Bring on 2023! ⭐️

We’re wishing Christine all the best and hope that she enjoys her time off with her expanding family 💛
🌟 MEET THE TEAM MONDAY’S 🌟
Christine Kim - Physiotherapist
Christine has been with us for six years now, only four of which she has been a physiotherapist. Before then, she was working as a Pilates teacher here, which she has thirteen years experience in. 🤸♀️
When it comes to her physio specialities, Christine is great with both musculoskeletal issues and women’s health. She is most interested in helping people with chronic pain, during and after pregnancy, and with any pelvic floor issues. Christine is a member of Continence Australia and Women’s Health Physiotherapy Australia, and she also regularly attends courses to help keep herself updated for her patients. 😇
Christine is originally from South Korea as well so she can speak fluent Korean for any patient that needs.
When it comes to working at Aim, Christine’s favourite part is working with friendly clients, especially in our gym, which she says has “the best Pilates and gym machines”. Our team at Aim have felt like a second family for Christine so she loves coming into work and seeing everyone. 💛
In her spare time, Christine loves going on hikes, especially in the Morialta and Mount Lofty National Parks, and enjoying time outside with her family. ⛰
Christine’s health advice is just to try and enjoy life by eating delicious foods, exercising, and trying to stress less.
If you’d like to grab a last minute appointment with Christine goes on maternity leave, call the clinic on 8331 1557.
🌟 MEET THE TEAM MONDAY’S 🌟
Gabrielle Laarhoven - Physiotherapist
Gabrielle has been with us at Aim for about two years now but she has had quite the journey before working with us. ✨
She completed her Bachelor of Physiotherapy back in Amsterdam at the University of Applied Sciences in 2017. From there, she worked in a rehabilitation centre in the Netherlands which gave her the opportunity to work with clients suffering from persistent pain. In 2018, she explored the world for a few months before deciding to set up in Adelaide. While here, she wanted to expand her physiotherapy knowledge so she completed her Master’s degree in Advanced Clinical Physiotherapy at the University of South Australia in 2019. 👩🎓
Gabrielle specialises in musculoskeletal issues, persistent pain and spine-related issues. She loves working with clients and promoting a healthy lifestyle so they are able to go back to things that they used to enjoy doing before injury. 🏄♀️
One of the best things about Aim, in Gabrielle’s opinion, is our different options for clients; whether they want to have a one-on-one session with a health professional or join group exercise classes, we offer different plans for clients to help them with their lifestyles. ✅
In her spare time, Gabrielle loves being active and exploring Australia by going camping and hiking. 🏕
Gabrielle’s too wellbeing advice is that movement and exercise is the best, cheapest and most accessible medicine available. 🏃♀️
A friendly reminder that we will be closed for the Queen's birthday public holiday this Monday 13th June. If you miss out on your usual group class or appointment, make sure to get a hold of us quickly as spots are filling up fast!
Call 8331 1557 or click the link in our bio to make a booking 😊
A reminder that our clinics will be closed on Monday 25th April for ANZAC Day.
The team at Aim would also like to pay our respects to past and present service people and we thank them for their service.
Just a reminder that we will be closed over the Easter break, from Friday 15th - Monday 18th April. If you need to arrange an appointment for after the break, you can give us a call on 8331 1557.
The team at Aim wish everyone a happy Easter! 🐰
🌟 MEET THE TEAM MONDAY’S 🌟
Edith Wong - Physiotherapist
Edith graduated from the University of South Australia with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy and is now doing her post-graduate clinical rehabilitation study at Flinders University. 👩🎓
She loves working at Aim for our diverse team with their wide range of skill sets, as well as the warm and friendly culture we have here. She’s most interested in the musculoskeletal and rehabilitation side of physiotherapy. However, she has also been actively involved in the occupational, health and safety field - performing risk management for manufacturing and production warehouses; manual handling training sessions for labour workers; desk ergonomic assessments for office workers; and working as an on-site physio at construction/manufacturing sites. 👷♀️
Edith is a hard worker and on top of her study and work here at Aim, she also works on a research project at UniSA to evaluate the educational content of a fourth-year physiotherapy subject: Work, Health and Safety Course. She also marks and tutors in this subject. Outside of all her commitments, she enjoys heading to the gym, reading, baking and listening to podcasts. 🙇♀️
Edith’s piece of health advice is: “to live a pain-free and healthy life, there are no substitutes for exercise and becoming stronger”. 💪
🌟 MEET THE TEAM MONDAY’S 🌟
Marta Fjellheim- Remedial Therapist
Marta has been with us at Aim for seven months now and she’s already very popular with our clients. It can be tricky to secure a spot with her! 😧
Marta is also a yoga teacher, and while she may not be currently practicing her teachings, she is able to apply her knowledge to her clients by explaining how both flexibility and strength are the key to a balanced musculoskeletal system. Marta is also studying a Diploma of Mental Health which can come in handy when working out the causes of patient tension. In her spare time, she attends yoga classes and studies. 🧘♀️
She loves working at Aim for the supportive work environment and seeing her clients. One of Marta’s favourite things is working with a collaborative team where exercise and remedial treatment can be used in conjunction to minimise muscle tension and increase range of motion of our clients. 🤝
Marta’s piece of health advice is to add small habits relating to health and well-being that you like to your day. These are the actions that, over time, may make a true impact on reaching your health goals. ✨
🌟 MEET THE TEAM MONDAY’S 🌟
Hayami Aboutaleb - Exercise Physiologist
Hayami has been working as an accredited clinical exercise physiologist since 2019, and we have been lucky enough to have her on our team since August 2019. Since then, she has also completed her Graduate Certificate in Diabetes Education through Deakin University which has been part of her process to becoming a credentialed diabetes educator on our team to help with our clients with diabetes. One of her favourite things about working at Aim is that we provide a multi-disciplinary approach, with exercise physiologists, physiotherapists, remedial therapy and Pilates working together to get our clients the best results 🤩
In her spare time, Hayami teaches the traditional Japanese martial art of fencing, known as Kendo, at UniSA and Adelaide Uni Kendo clubs. 🤺
After working with many individuals with chronic disease, such as diabetes, arthritis, depression and cardiovascular disease, she has noticed that while exercise may not offer a cure to such conditions, her clients often mention that they have recognised an improvement with their mental and physical health after exercise. Because of this, Hayami’s number one health tip is to replace sedentary behaviours with physical activities that you enjoy - any physical activity is better than none! 🏃♂️
This is one of our most asked questions, especially by new clients, so we thought it was about time we had an easy infographic with all the things you need to know! 😁
If this sounds like something you’d be interested in starting, give us a call on 8331 1557 or click the link in our bio for more information or to book an appointment 🏃
A friendly reminder that we will be closed for the Adelaide Cup public holiday this Monday 14th March. If you miss out on your usual group class or appointment, make sure to get a hold of us quickly as spots are filling up fast!
Call 8331 1557 or click the link in our bio to make a booking 😊
🌟 MEET THE TEAM MONDAY’S 🌟
Mitch Maguire - Physiotherapist
Mitch has been working as a physiotherapist since mid-2020 where he started out at Canberra’s Calvary Hospital in the orthopaedic and rehabilitation wards. He transferred over to us at Aim at the start of 2021 and has treated a range of clients during his time here. Because his experience at both a hospital and a private practice has taught him that each patient is different, Mitch works with our clients with a tailor-made approach to ensure he can listen to each patient’s needs and help them achieve their best results. 😁
Outside of work, Mitch plays football for West Adelaide in the SANFL which makes him a great physio for any sports-related concerns. But he is also interested in musculoskeletal injuries across all ages because of his past work, as well as taking on clients to help them improve their overall health and fitness or athletic traits such as speed, power, endurance and strength. 💪🏻
With treatment, Mitch uses a combination of manual skills and exercise prescription to get the best results for patients. He happily uses our pilates and gym equipment which he says “make treating and rehabbing injuries much more effective”. 🏃♂️
Because Mitch is still relatively new in to Adelaide, he enjoys getting to know South Australia a little better in his spare time, checking out wineries and beaches. He also enjoys spending time with his partner, family and friends. 🍻
Mitch’s number one health tip would be “nothing changes if nothing changes”. If you want to really succeed and give yourself the best opportunity at improving your health or rehabilitating your injury, then changes have to be made and a new routine has to be developed. ✅
