To the folks who didn’t quite fit in the age bracket for the youth workshops 😅 We’ve designed something a little extra intimate, cosy and delicious to get those creative juices flowing.
A relaxed workshop to momentarily lighten the heaviness of the world rn, led by the Goddess herself will be facilitating this beautiful evening, we can all soak in her brilliance and hone our craft too.
This is the pilot for Verse & Vino, a night of getting together in community, exchanging and offering up parts of you in a safe and inclusive space for writers of all levels. Scan the QR code to secure your tickets. A glass of wine (or non-alcoholic beverage) will be included with every ticket price.

Not only do we have the crème de le crème of poets featuring at this month, but we also have the incredible opening the show for us. Vincy is a multi-instrumentalist currently participating in Interplay program, honing their practice in creating contemporary music and we cannot be more excited to provide the space for them to serenade us all.

Exhibit A; DYS have teamed up with the Marion City Council to put on a month of FREE youth poetry workshops (aged 16-24).
These workshops will take place on Saturday mornings at the Cove Civic Library (only 5 spots remaining) with lunch and writing materials provided.
You can sign up for all 4 weeks & and we’ll take you on a journey of self discovery, confidence building and expression that you didn’t know you possessed. This is a safe and inclusive space for young folks of all writing abilities. Each workshop is led by a different poet, so you will get to witness a range of diverse talent.
On top of that, at the end of the 4 weeks you will have the opportunity to perform your pieces on the DYS stage in October.

We know you’ve been patiently waiting folks. This September we are bringing a literal goddess to the Draw Your (S)words stage, to be exact.
Huda the Goddess hails from Meanjig and brings a talent like no other, with the ability to draw words directly from her heart to microphone, this Australian Poetry Slam Winner and two-time QLD champ will be gracing our stage at Friday 27th September.

We have had some pretty monumental events this year, and this August was no different.
We had the privilege of collaborating with to present the closing night of ‘A Permanent Record’ Exhibition, which saw many incredible artists bravely share their lived experience of being criminalised, shedding light on the trauma and discrimination faced within the violent oppressive system.
There was so much love, pain, anger, protest, vulnerability, support, hope and artistry in the room. We cannot wait to see more of these much needed events come to light in the community.

DYS are honoured to collaborate and host the closing night of ‘a Permanent Record’ on Thursday 8th August. This is an exhibition that centres the narratives of criminalised young people. It takes a critical look at the violence of the carceral system, seeking to illuminate crime as a social process, deeply connected to broader inequalities.

Next month we are teaming up with the amazing folks at Howdy Partner to bring you a 4-week poetry writing series starting on the 14th Nov- 6th Dec, meeting every Wednesday in their accessible studio space.
Together we will delve into unique stories yet to be told and build your confidence in a safe and welcoming space. Each workshop touches on a different topic, join one or all four in a package deal.
We welcome all writers of all levels to come together and connect.
