In our latest episode of The Journey, we had the pleasure of sitting down with none other than Paul Clancy, the founder of Clancy’s Food Store and a seasoned pastry cook with a knack for creating mouth-watering delights that are loved by our community.

Paul’s journey into the world of pastry began in the quaint town of Broadford, Victoria, where he developed a deep appreciation for the tight-knit bonds fostered by small communities. Raised by parents who owned a newsagency, entrepreneurship ran in his blood from the start.

Inspiration struck in the form of Paul's uncle, a pastry virtuoso who ran a beloved patisserie in High Street, Prahran. Marvelling at his uncle's ability to close the shop for extended holidays and wrap up work by 3 pm daily, Paul was captivated. This allure led him straight into a pastry cook apprenticeship upon finishing school.

Yet, the path to pastry perfection was no cakewalk. Endless days, early mornings, and relentless work characterised Paul's journey. After honing his craft at various establishments, he and his wife Rachel embarked on their own culinary adventure, opening Clancy’s Bakehouse in East Malvern. Eighteen years of dedication later, Paul turned 40 and decided it was time for a lifestyle change.

Yearning for a simpler life, Paul and Rachel set their sights on the picturesque Albury Wodonga region, where family ties awaited. Enamoured by a property overlooking the tranquil weir at Bellbridge, they envisioned a new beginning. After a rejuvenating six-month hiatus, marked by daily water sports and relaxation, the Clancy's dove headfirst into their newest venture: Clancy’s Food Store.

Today, nestled in the heart of Albury, Clancy’s Food Store has become a cherished local haunt, celebrated for its delectable coffee, pies, pastries, and mouth-watering pre-prepared meals.
