I spent a few days camping at Jervis Bay and was exactly the reset I needed. Prior to this trip I was feeling overwhelmed, burnt out and just very ungrounded.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A few years ago I never used to really know what people meant when they said they felt ungrounded, it was just an abstract concept for me. But having done my fair share of spiritual activities in recent years I'm now very aware of the need to ground myself after each exploration. It's a strange one to try and explain, but I can tell that I need grounding when I start to feel like I'm outside of my body. When I start to feel almost like I'm floating - but not in that relaxed, calm way. More in a way that feels like I'm not quite here, present on earth. My dreams become very intense and strange and I just generally feel like I'm in my mind more than my body.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When this happens, the best thing for me is nature. I will try and lay on the earth wherever I can - maybe on the sand or grass and use my intention to pull some of the earth's energy up through my feet into my body.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And sound is also a useful tool for grounding, I tend to move towards more earthy music, with drums, shakers and rattles and didgeridoos. Instruments that feel like they have a heavy, natural quality to them.

Anyway I've come back from the trip feeling super refreshed and ready to work on some new sound projects (also involving hypnosis!), so stay tuned 🌀

A few new faces around here so I thought I’d share a little bit about myself, but maybe in a different format as I find it can be insightful to get to know someone by asking them the things about themselves they haven’t always accepted or tried to change.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So hi - I’m Brooke. And the following are the things about me I’ve tried to reject but have now come to accept about myself:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🌀 I absolutely love going to raves and dancing to house music. There’s something about being in the middle of a sweaty dance floor that makes my soul extremely happy. The best combo is sat night out dancing, recharge Sunday afternoon w a sound bath ✨
🌀 I can no longer drink coffee and have to severely limit my caffeine intake. My nervous system and blood sugar levels can’t handle it anymore
🌀 I’m just not a morning person, I function best from the hours after 10am. Hence why facilitating sound journeys are perfect for me, bc who wants a 6am sound bath 😅
🌀 I used to feel a lot of shame about not always being the loudest person in the room, as I used to think loud = fun/smart. But I have now realised that it’s usually the quiet people that see and notice the most and have the best insights. If you want a different perspective, ask the quiet ppl 🤍

When we work with sound in a healing context, we are using vibration as a way to shift energy within the body and raise our frequency.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In a lot of the self-help world we are trying to raise our frequency and vibration by working on the mind to shift the body. Eg. positive self-talk, mantras, talk therapy etc.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But when we work with sound + vibration, we are impacting the physiology of the body to shift things.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The way this works is using a concept called 'entrainment', which is basically when sounds produce particular frequencies, our body begins to synchronise to this frequency. When we are exposed to certain rhythms and frequencies, our internal systems start to adjust and align themselves to match this input. Think of it like listening to your favourite music and you can't help but move your body to the beat.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When we're using it for healing, this is happening internally and we focus on a range of frequencies (eg. 432hz) to bring the body balance back into harmony and balance.

People ask me quite often how I got into meditation and what I get out of doing it regularly.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I began meditating over 5 years ago now at a Vipassana 10-day silent retreat. I had never meditated before and it was one of the hardest things I’d ever done. I originally went to fix my insomnia, but it ended up provided benefits I didn’t even know I needed at the time.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I can see now that I have always struggled with the feeling of boredom, and when there isn’t constant excitement or change going on in my life I have a hard time sitting with that. I have a lot of Aries in my birth chart and impulses arise quickly and strongly for me. For example this week alone, I have had extremely strong urges to want to cut off all my hair, get a tattoo and move to Canada.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But I believe it is my meditation practice that helps to create just that little bit of space and a 2 second gap between these strong impulses and my reactions/taking un-aligned action. Meditation has taught me how to pause and sit with uncomfortable feelings, letting them arise and then gradually pass without the need for me to blow up my life or change anything.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It sounds so simple, but for me the results have been profound. I’m not saying it’s always bad to want to do impulsive things, if they are truly what you want to do. But for me I can now most of time recognise when these urges are coming from a place of trying to escape feelings or from a place of intuition and alignment and I credit that clarity to my meditation practice. 🌀

A lot of people came to last night's sound journey in Double Bay saying how busy and stressful their week had been so far. Which is not surprising considering the astrology at the moment. But we settled into the room with a meditation and everything seemed to flow nicely, the external sounds that were distracting and present at the beginning of the evening dissipated as the journey began.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
As some of you may have seen, I added a monolina to my collection of instruments recently, and last night was the first time I got to use her in a journey. I think it was a combination of the droning sound and the ringing overtones that seemed to put people really deep into a trance state. It was so magical to see people floating out the door, a sense of calmness exuding from them ✨

This week I've been thinking a lot about intuition. And how if we've felt blocked, or out of touch with our bodies, it can be hard or confusing to distinguish how we might feel about things.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Although our intuition can come in different forms, and it’s not so black and white as to say how it will appear for you. It comes from our body’s wisdom, and you will FEEL it. Even if it’s ever so subtle. It’s an inner knowing that something is or isn’t right for you. And sometimes it doesn’t always make sense. You might be put off by a particular person, place or situation and you don’t know why but you can feel within your body that it doesn’t feel good.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
For me, if something feels off, my intuition shows up as an uncomfortable feeling in my chest. It appears strongly for me in certain places, I can walk into a room and instantly feel off, my body feels dense and heavy and like I can’t take full breaths. And for the opposite, if it's a yes or something that's aligned for me, I can experience waves of what feels like electricity running through my body and my heart feels happy. But it’s different for everyone.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you’re struggling to get in touch with your intuition, I find the best way is to be still and to learn to quiet down your mind so that your body can begin to speak to you. It’s always trying to communicate with you. Try lying down with some soft music (or in a sound journey!) or binaural beats playing and place your hands on different parts of your body as you breathe deeply and begin to notice how different parts of your body feel.

Once you start practicing noticing how your body feels, you will become better at recognising when your body is trying to tell you something and from this place you can make more aligned decisions.
