Our annual catch up with past players and wives
The committee of the footy club both 1927 & 1930, also complete with the fixturing for both of those years. You might also notice that Alan Cheyne's grandfather served on the committee during that time. What a unique piece of our history, again many thanks to Phil O'Rourke for sharing this with us.
Herewith some aerial photos of Eric Raven Reserve (D) dating back to 1942. You will also notice the wickets (E & F) on TH King Oval where many of us played cricket. The photo of the pavilion was taken in 1952, we are unsure what relevance the small storage shed had in those days. Many thanks to Phil O'Rourke for sending these through.
Well, that's another reunion put to bed. What an honor it was to have both Paul Little and James Hird speak to our group. James was sensational with honesty and clarity. I certainly hope you enjoyed the day as much as I did. Your continued support of our club is very much appreciated.
Right at the start of this there's a little grey bearded man standing on the fence, could that be our very own Tommy Burney? (yes it is)
Second half of the golden days featuring our game Versus Chaddy
Fast forward to about 2.45 mins, this little gem was given to us by Tommy Burney, who else remembers these functions? And check out the prices!

Our winners for the day were Mick Richards, John Reinsma, David Taylor and Ross Sutherland with part time caddy Wayne Stewart.
Next up will be the reunion in November, hope to see you all there.

With the Queens recent passing thought I would share this pic with you in her shaking hands with former player and coach Bob Hodgkin at a game in 1970. I wonder what Bob said to her? Perhaps we'll find out at the reunion in November.

A brief history of the Glen Iris Football Club.
Glen Iris Football Club was formed in 1925 and originally played in the Eastern Sub District League for the first few years.
The first president was Mr Lowe and the team (only one at this stage) was coached by player Charlie Hazen. Charlie had a long association with the club right up until the late 1940โs and during the war period of 1939 to 1945 was both president and coach. The playing arena, first known as Glen Iris Reserve, was not always flat (or as smooth) as it is today. The first oval was on the slope of the hill nearer to High St than the present ground. Around 1930 the hill was excavated and the oval placed nearer to Gardiners Creek to its current location. The area is now known as Eric Raven Reserve named after a councillor who served the district for over 20 years during which time he was also Mayor of Camberwell. Eric also served the club as its president in its formative years (1930 to 1940).
The original pavilion, built by volunteer labour, stood until 1966 when a much more modern design was erected. This pavilion also stood until about 2010 when a brand new state of the art pavilion with small stand was built. The annual report in 1929 reads, To raise funds for the lining of the pavilion a social evening was held in conjunction with Glen Iris Cricket Club, these funds were duly raised.
In 1932 the club joined the newly formed Eastern Football League where it competed until 1963 when E.S.F.L amalgamated with the Caulfield - Oakleigh league to form the South East Suburban Football League.
