A lack of role models and mentors can also restrict women’s professional development and career advancement. When women – and men – see females in senior roles it normalises the idea of female leadership. And so too with people of colour and people with disabilities.

A 2019 study by Ernst & Young revealed that just 7% of the world’s leaders or C-suite have a disability - and that one in every five of these leaders hid their condition. This combination of under-representation and masking makes it extremely difficult for people with disabilities to look at their senior management team and identify role models of those who have gone before them.

Home - Refugee Week 17/06/2023

As we mark Australian Refugee Week, we come together to recognize and celebrate the strength, resilience, and contributions of refugees in our diverse nation. This week, let's shine a light on their journeys, stories, and dreams, while reaffirming our commitment to compassion, empathy, and inclusivity for all.

Australia has been enriched by the cultural diversity and talents that refugees bring to our communities. They are doctors, artists, entrepreneurs, and so much more. Their contributions enhance our society, reminding us of the limitless potential that emerges when we open our hearts and doors to those seeking safety and a new beginning.

To those who have come from far and wide, we're happy you're safe, we're happy you're free, we're happy you're here.

Home - Refugee Week Refugee Week is an annual celebration, informing the public about refugees and celebrating their contributions. The 2023 theme is Finding Freedom.

Just organised a birthday morning tea for a colleague, loaded the dishwasher or took the minutes for a meeting? This 'office housework' typically performed by women is essential to the wellbeing of any team, even though it’s not included in any formal job descriptions.

Perversely, when women choose not to do these tasks, they are penalised for it, whereas if men stay late to help prepare for a meeting or help out with other office housework tasks they receive an average 14% increase in their performance ratings.

These findings have been replicated across the private and public sectors and across a wide range of roles, with the analysis showing that the median woman spends more than 200 hours on non-promotable work each year than the median man - equating to about a month of non-rewarded work.
