What a team! š„°
So thankful for this crew of people who gave up their time on Sunday to talk with locals about 50c fares and how we can make our community an even better place to live.
Want to join us this weekend? Send me a message.
Whoās supervising a learner driver at the moment? š
The Department of Transport and Main Roads is hosting a free workshop on Thursday 22 August 2024 at Carseldine for supervisors of a learner driver.
Scan the code below to register.
The workshop aims to empower supervisors with insights into key risks, common mistakes and practical test areas, ensuring their learners are road ready.
We are fast tracking another 159 social and affordable homes in Southport for people in need.
Theyāll be close to local shops, services and public transport.
Itās part of our Big Housing Build, giving more Queenslanders a place to call home.
Kerri is a well known and loved beautician, whoās recently gone out on her own and has set up a home studio in Paddington.
Caring, clever and great at her job. If you love supporting our local small businesses and our boss-ladyās then look her up!
Iām loving the creative and useful gardens that people are building.
Locals in Bardon told me about this one on Lilley Road which helps the whole street reduce their waste while building compost.
What systems have you set up in your home or neighbourhood?
Domestic and family violence can take many forms.
Technology facilitated abuse is a growing concern and Grant from Concentric Concepts supports victim-survivors to stay safe.
His team can detect and then remove surveillance and recording devices from homes, cars and phones. They help develop safety plans, and work with authorities to gather evidence of technology abuse and coercive control.
It's important that our community works together to end domestic and family violence and while in an emergency you should always call 000, you can contact me if you require local assistance.
Iāve got to give a shout out to this guyā¦ Matt Bashford.
People often ask me how I do it - well Matt is a big part of that answer.
He organises me, he does kids lunches, he coaches basketball, attends the awards nights when I canāt. He makes dinner, fills up my water bottle when Iām exhausted.
He watches B-grade horror movies through his fingers just to spend time with me. Reorganises his schedule at last minute to make our family life work.
He is loyal. And patient. And heās loved me like no one else in this world.
In a world thatās so busy and loud and congested Iām so lucky you found me.

Planned burns around Mt Coo-tha this week will create a bit of smoke in our area.
Push ups are even better when it's for a good cause.
Happy to support colleague Mick de Brenni in his push up challenge raising funds for Lifeline.
If you are able to support his campaign, I'll put the link in the comments.
As some of you know, I have two rescue dogs at home, Benji who lets any old stranger in but wonāt let them leave, and Beanie who chews sticks, shoes, socks, chairs, hoses, and on to anything else she can get her paws
Luckily I met Val Bonney from The Gap this week.
Val is a recognised dog trainer and author, and she generously gave me a copy of her three books! If youād like to buy a copy of Valās books I'll put the link in the comments.
The Senate, Legal and Constitutional Affairs Legislation Committee inquiry into Deepfake Sexual Material starts today.
Often targeting women and young people, deepfake material causes extraordinary harm.
After the passage of this bill, the non consensual creation and sharing of deepfake material will be a criminal offence.
The inquiry starts at 9am and can be viewed here:

On to the semis.
Petrie Terrace State School is a beautiful community.
This years art show was again a brilliant example of the students talents, and parentsā ability to dig deep and support.
Special thanks to incoming Principal Caroline Bofinger, P&C President Nicolas who didnāt stop all night, and the boys from Ray White Paddington who auctioneered the event.
Starting the 5th of August.
Iām ferry excited.
CELEBRATE NATIONAL TREE DAY
National Tree Day is on Sunday, July 28, so come along to Paten Park Native Nursery from 10am-1pm on the day to help us celebrate.
Whatever your age or interest, thereāll be something for everyone, with childrenās nature craft activities, a bush foods stall, guided bushwalks with Dr Ketah Silvester from Brisbane Edible Gardening and the chance to meet some delightful orphaned flying fox babies with their carer Rebecca Appleton of Bat Conservation & Rescue QLD.
57 Paten Rd, The Gap. Parking is limited, so please park up the road near the Scout Hall and walk in if you can.
Great to have Cr Greg Adermannās support for our Reclaim The Trails - walk, run, reclaim Mt Cootha event.
The event is really coming along with over 200 committed to activating our trails on the morning of Saturday 3rd August.
Weāre meeting here at JC Slaughter falls, and currently working on additional parking options.
We also need a generator to help with power on the day. So if anyone has a spare Genny, or would like to kindly donate one for the morning for a great cause please let my office know.
Amazing energy at Brisbane Capitals quarter finals last night!
Itās also great to see the Auchenflower Stadium renovation coming alongā¦ would be even better if we could squeeze a few more dollars out of Michael Healy MP ā¦ šš.

Amazing effort for George Murray - completing the 100klm The Guzzler Ultra in a new record time (for context it took me 9.5 hours to complete the 54klm!)
What a champion.
Good luck to everyone taking part in The Guzzler Ultra this weekend ā¤ļøšāāļøšāāļøā¤ļø
I wonāt be with you this year but looking forward to seeing everyone at our Reclaim event.
Ho ho ho, it was a busy night working the bar at Hilder Road State Schoolās Christmas in July trivia night last night.
Our P&Cs do such a great role in pulling these events together - well done everyone!!
Laborās focused on transforming Australia into a renewable energy superpower.
This solar station will power 80,000 homes, reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 450,000 tonnes annually and support 500 local construction jobs.
While Labor gets on with the job of lowering your power bill, Peter Dutton is clinging to his nuclear fantasy!
WATERWORKS ROAD REVIEW UPDATE
Solving our local traffic issues will take all levels of government putting politics aside and working constructively together.
Councillor for The Gap Ward, Steve Toomey and I have met a number of times to talk about the increased pressures on our roads, Waterworks Road particularly.
With almost 35,000 car trips each day, Waterworks Road is one of Queenslandās most congested and dangerous roads.
Which is why Iām pleased to share weāve been able to deliver a transport study on Waterworks Road.
This study will investigate opportunities for infrastructure and network improvements, to support a more reliable, safe and attractive transport network.
This is a Brisbane City Council road, however, Iāve helped secure over $300,000 of State Government funding for this project. The technical advisory group will comprise both State and BCC officers.
I have expressed my view that the study must consider opportunities to enhance our active and public transport services.
Please feel free to write to me if you have an interest in this.
EMILY's List Australia is one d the best organisations youāve never heard of!
Through a collective feminist movement, Emilyās List gets progressive women elected to Australian parliaments at all levels of government.
Iām grateful to be one of their endorsed candidates and loved catching up with CEO Pamela last week to talk about the priorities worth fighting for at the October election! ā¤ļøšŖā¤ļø
This is a great thing.
The Miles Government is making it easier for Queenslanders living in regional, rural, and remote communities to access healthcare by expanding the support available under the Patient Travel Subsidy Scheme (PTSS).
From 1 August 2024, Queenslanders travelling to access healthcare under the PTSS wonāt have to pay for accommodation, in full, thanks to the removal of the four-night rule.
Queensland is a large and decentralised state, which means some people need to travel to access complex treatment, such as cardiology or oncology services, to ensure that they have the best chance of recovering and can receive the best possible quality of care.
The PTSS provides financial support to subsidise the costs of accommodation and transport for more than 95,000 Queenslanders each year.
Cāarn the decider
I'm continually impressed by the students at The Gap State High School
This year's Investiture Ceremony was a great opportunity to celebrate them, their peers and their loved ones and wish them the best with their leadership journey.
Well done to Principal Anne McLauchlan, P&C President Erin Williams and the entire school community.
Thank you also to Cr Steven Toomey, and local Primary School Principals for making the time to prioritising these important moments for our young people into your diaries also.
