Umu Kitchen

It’s with a heavy heart that we announce the closures of our dinner trade at Umu.

We’ve tried our hardest, but it’s just not working out. We had a few really great nights, but mostly we are only getting 1-2 people through the door and it isn’t sustainable for us.

Thank you to our wonderful community for so much understanding lately. We’re desperately trying to find a way to make ends meet and we know we’re lacking consistency. The truth is, it used to be easy for us to cover staff shortages and illness but we just haven’t been able to do that as easily since having kids.

We’re absolutely burnt out from the stress of it all. This economy is no joke and we know you’re feeling it too.

We’re going to lay low for a bit and find a way to come back stronger.

Some updated trading for next week, just to make things confusing! We’ll be here Monday for the public holiday, but have to get some Reno’s done on Tuesday! We’re staying open until 9am so you can grab that coffee en route to work - or visit us at Vaiola - see you soon!

Unfortunately due to lack of trade, we aren’t continuing to operate for dinner on a Sunday evening. Most Sundays we wouldn’t have anybody through at all, so it just isn’t a financially viable option. Fridays and Saturdays are where it’s at! I’m sorry for the late notice! I thought I had made a post, but clearly mum brain is serving me a little less well than I’d like!

He’s here!

Thank you for letting us settle into life with our newest addition. We are so excited to introduce you to our little Kailo ‘Ali, meaning ‘gift from
Heaven’.

Kailo was in such a rush that he was born in an accidental homebirth, beating both the paramedics and his Dad home from work. At a tiny 2.6kg he has quite the story to tell for how he entered the world! We are all healthy and well and so grateful for the love so far. We can’t wait for you to meet him!

You guys have been asking us for years (literally) to start doing dinner again & the time has come!

We’re so excited. We had huge success with our dinners previously and now, with a little extra storage space (thanks new walk in fridge/freezer) we are able to bring it back.

Starting this week - come and join us!

We are just going to take it as it comes. We want to hear what you want. We know takeaway has been a huge request, so everything will be super takeaway friendly! Our kitchen will stay open from 5.30am through to 8pm, switching to the tapas / dinner menu from 2pm.

Please be patient with us as we find our groove, but we are very keen for your input and suggestions!

We still have plenty of space available for bookings for Sunday. Send us a message here or via instagram to get booked in and secure your table. Plenty of extra pastries and sweets to take away. It’s meant to be a bit cooler on Sunday with a chance of rain, so even more reason to grab a delicious coffee or hot chocolate to deliver to mum in bed. Emily will be up early and pumping out the coffees - and maybe having a few herself 😂 can’t wait guys!

We’ll be gradually adjusting our opening hours in the afternoons to fit the trade that we have observed.

Unfortunately, it is no longer sustainable to remain open for such long hours.

This weekend we will trial a 1.30pm close time. Don’t worry though, .tarragindi is open until 9pm Saturday & 5pm Sunday & we would love to welcome you there (just 2 minutes around the corner with plenty of undercover parking!) We will ensure we keep our google & our bopple updated.
