The past few days have been the hardest we have ever had as we unexpectedly lost our one and only Marie-Jeanne Semmens on Friday.

Maz was the longest serving and most loved member in our Outback Pharmacies family and no words can do justice to what she meant to us.

She was more than just a work colleague. She was a friend and mother figure to us. She was always more interested in putting her work friends before herself and was always the life of the party when we went out.

Our hearts bleed for Grahame, Jarvis, Kate and their families.

CP Peoples Chemist will never be the same again.

A reminder that the walk-in vaccination clinic is on at CP Peoples Chemist this morning- 9am to 12pm.

Our Government funded Flu vaccines have now arrived. So those who are 65+ and those with chronic health conditions are able to receive a FREE Flu vaccine through CP Peoples Chemist.

Demand has already been huge and we are booked out for several days in advance.

As a result of this, CP Peoples Chemist will be running a walk-in vaccination clinic this Saturday (13/4) between 9am and 12pm.

No appointments will be taken, it’s first in, first served.

A reminder that Flu and COVID vaccines can be given at the same time.

VACCINATION UPDATE

FLU VACCINES

ATAGI this week released a statement saying that cases of Influenza have arisen much earlier this year than previous years.

Therefore, current advice is that patients are advised to get the flu vaccine much earlier in the year than they normally would. Flu season in Australia normally runs from May to September.

While protection from the flu vaccine is generally expected to last throughout the year, the highest level of protection occurs in the first 3 to 4 months after vaccination. Although not specifically recommended, patients can receive a second vaccine later in the season if they wish.

This year the Government has expanded the scope of Pharmacist vaccinations with the NIPVIP program. This means that those who qualify for National Immunization Program (NIP) vaccines will be able to obtain them for free from your local pharmacy.

Pharmacists are able to administer flu vaccines to patients 5 years and over.

According to NSW Health, the following groups of people qualify for NIP Flu vaccinations this year

• people aged 65 years and over (a vaccine that is specifically designed to produce a higher immune response is available for this group).

• all individuals aged 5 years and over with medical risk conditions, namely:
o cardiac disease, including cyanotic congenital heart disease, coronary artery disease and congestive heart failure
o chronic respiratory conditions, including suppurative lung disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), severe asthma (for which frequent medical consultations or the use of multiple medications is required), cystic fibrosis, bronchiectasis and chronic emphysema
o chronic neurological conditions, including hereditary and degenerative central nervous system (CNS) diseases (including multiple sclerosis), neuromuscular disorders, spinal cord injuries and seizure disorders
o immunocompromising conditions, including immunocompromised due to disease or treatment (e.g. malignancy, transplantation and/or chronic steroid use), asplenia or splenic dysfunction and HIV infection
o diabetes and other metabolic disorders, including Type 1 diabetes, Type 2 diabetes and chronic metabolic disorders
o chronic renal failure
o haemoglobinopathies

• pregnant women (influenza vaccine can be given at any stage of pregnancy)

For those patients who do not qualify for a free NIP vaccine, flu vaccinations will cost $24.95, the same as the past few years.

CP Peoples Chemist has received supply of the private flu vaccines, however, we are still awaiting delivery from the Government via the NSW Vaccine Centre for our free NIP vaccinations. We hope to have these in the next week or so

Flu vaccines can be given at the same as other vaccines such as COVID and Shingles etc.
