Serendipity make two types of Castor Oil soaps - first one we make via the Hot Process Method of soapmaking so we can get a clear soap which is used for face and neck, the other curing at the moment we made via the Cold Process Method, this soap is Coconut and Castor Oil and used as a body soap - traditionally, soaps are made from several oils blended to balance cleansing/moisturizing/and lathering properties. One of the well-known “rules” is that a soap should be made of more than 20% - 30% coconut oil because it is so effective at breaking up oil/grease but too much coconut oil can be drying. Fortunately, there’s a way to simplify things and it’s called “superfatting.” We add the equivalent of “one quarter moisturizing cream” like big brands do, only we leave out the toxic slew of chemicals that usually go with it. This one quarter (give or take as you do with any recipe) is by adding 20% more coconut oil, you end up with a luxurious soap – coconut oil’s high shelf stability is what made up our minds to make Coconut Castor Oil Soaps - give our customers a beautiful Castor Oil face/neck soap that isn't drying and a beautiful Coconut Castor Oil soap for the body "choc-a-block" full of luxurious moisturizing.

It increases the hydrating properties of the soap and can be excellent for all types of skin.

Benefits of Castor Oil For Soap Making
Castor Oil offers several benefits for your skin. It maintains your skin's hydration level and provides quick relief from skin itchiness and dryness. It possesses antibacterial and antiseptic qualities that help to heal wounds and cuts.

Soap is - did go a little overboard with the castor oil but well worth it don't you think? We've made our Serendipity EveryDay Whipped Soap softer/smoother so we can package it in refillable travel bottles. My hands after taking this photo were super soft. We have 4 x Ice Cream Cone squeezes (2 already sold!!) and 4 x collapsible squeezes. I'll get them packaged up next week in time for the Harbourside Jetty4Shore Sunday Market 10 March - if you want to order in advance just drop us an email.

Unfortunately the rain has stopped us from setting up at the Harbourside Markets Jetty4Shore this morning - we arrived at 5am and waited till 6:15am - now home and still raining. I'll take today as a blessing and work on our website (Serendipity Goatmilk Soap) - have three new soaps to add plus another ready for sale end of March (see below post) remember anything we sell can be posted and sales over $100 postage is free within Australia or a flat rate of $10 for up to 25 cakes of our Serendipity Goatmilk Soap or whatever can fit into a small Australia Post bag with a weight up to 5kg.

Serendipity will be at the Harbourside Markets Jetty4Shore Markets tomorrow with all three of our new goatmilk soaps - Naturals.....Mango & Lime, Frankincense Chia Scrub, Patchouli & Honey. Ready 24 March is another natural we call Lemon Poppy Scrub (Goatmilk Lemon Ironbark & Poppy Seeds). We've been asked for "scrubby" soaps so two new ones on our list now. See y'all tomorrow 25/02.

Just finished packing up the car and looking forward to a beautiful Sunday (18/02) Harbourside Markets at the Jetty4Shore tomorrow. We will have 2 of the new soaps with us...the Chia Scrub and the Mango 'n' Lime....the Patchouli & Honey will be ready next Sunday. Hope to see y'all there.

Keeping our fingers x'd for tomorrow's (11/02) Sunday Harbourside Markets that is doesn't rain - not looking good at the moment. Bill has made up some lovely hot transfer designs for the Jute Hamper Bags plus the Bamboo Hamper Bags, ....We also have three new natural Serendipity Goatmilk Soaps - Patchouli & Honey (the Honey in this soap takes some of the super strong Patchouli scent away, really a very nice soap) Frankincense Chia Scrub (always being asked for a "scrub soap" so we used crushed Chia seeds) and an oh so lovey moisturizing skin soap "Mango & Lime" - didn't put a lot of Lime EO in this soap as I wanted the fresh pureed Mango to shine.....If it rains you can always get in touch via our website, email or phone.

Serendipity has one of the best Loyalty Programs ever - but unfortunately.................................

As from February 2024 customers who purchase from Serendipity at the Sunday Markets, will need to keep their cards and show when accessing the Loyalty Program to have their cards updated. We will stamp each card (new/old) with the date the cards are given to customers – these cards stamped will have an expiry date of 12 months.

Customers that order online and are in the Serendipity “EveryDay” Loyalty Program and have their orders posted out to them will remain the same and still have their invoices updated to show the progress of their Loyalty Program.

Serendipity won't be at the Jetty4Shore market tomorrow (22 October) due to the high winds forecast - don't mind the winds around 25 km/h but its forecast 6am to be 30 km/h then climbing up to 44 km/h by 12noon. Again, should you need anything before Sunday 29 October (next Jetty4Shore Sunday market day) call us and you can collect from us directly.

Always like testing random soap we make and yesterdays soapmaking session was excellent. We've increased the Coconut Oil and added a little Jojoba Oil - we always unmould our soaps the next day so this morning we unmoulded - this picture is an off-cut Goatmilk Watermelon I'm washing my hands with. We discounted the Lye, superfatted and added more sodium lactate - results.....harder lighter soap with so many smooth bubbles.

Making soaps and moisturizers tomorrow that contain the oils of Tamanu and Seabuckthorn. Several people asking what these oils are so thought I'd post them for you............

Tamanu Oil.......is a fatty nut oil that is pressed from the seeds of the Tamanu tree. It is often used as a skin care ingredient for anti-aging and wound healing, but Tamanu oil benefits don’t end there. The Tamanu tree is a tropical tree and is actually found here in Australia. Its bark is ridged with a light grey color, and the wood is used for building.

Tamanu Oil contains antioxidants, antioxidants fight free radical damage. When your body has an overload of free radicals that it can’t destroy, damage happens. This is one of the causes of faster aging in your skin. Tamanu oil is rich in antioxidants, and it is often added to anti-aging creams.

Tamanu oil is antibacterial and antifungal. It can help fight bacteria and fungus on the skin. This makes it helpful for:

Acne - Eczema - Wound infections - Fungal infections

Eczema skin tends to have higher amounts of bacteria, so Tamanu's antibacterial properties might be helpful. Tamanu oil is also anti-inflammatory, which can soothe eczema.

Tamanu oil helps with wound closure, skin cell growth, and collagen production. All of these can help with wound healing.

Tamanu oil comes from the seeds of the Tamanu tree, but it is classified as a nut tree. If you are allergic to nuts, you shouldn’t use Tamanu oil.

Seabuckthorn Oil..... has been used as a traditional skin treatment for centuries. It’s rich in unsaturated fat, antioxidants, phytosterols, carotenoids, and vitamins E and K — all of which function together to protect your skin’s integrity and promote its renewal - Seabuckthorn oil is also rich in palmitoleic acid, which is a type of fat naturally found in human skin that can be used to treat burns and promote wound healing (2Trusted Source).

Seabuckthorn oil contains other omega-6 fats, such as gamma linolenic acid (GLA), which may help reduce eczema and improve acne (4Trusted Source).

Perhaps unsurprisingly, seabuckthorn is commonly added to various pro-aging or wrinkle-reducing products. It’s also a common ingredient in products intended to treat dry, irritated, flaky or itchy skin (6Trusted Source).

One of the only available studies reported lower psoriasis symptoms after application of a Seabuckthorn extract for 4–8 weeks (7Trusted Source).

How to Open and Close Pores with
Warm Water Cleansing and Cold Water

Clean and clear skin totally begins with pore care. Opening and closing your pores using warm water and cold water can help you maintain healthier-looking skin. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to do it effectively.......................................
Serendipity have packs of disposable wipes/towels/facecloths and sponges.

Opening Pores with Warm Water:
1. Gather Your Supplies:
A gentle facial cleanser is Serendipity’s Black Magic suitable for your skin type.
Disposable facecloths/towels.
A bowl of comfortably warm water.

2. Remove Makeup (if applicable): If you're wearing makeup use disposable wipes to gently remove before proceeding.

3. Wash Your Face: Use the Serendipity Black Magic soap to thoroughly cleanse your face. Gently massage it into your skin in a circular motion for about 60 seconds, paying extra attention to areas with clogged pores or impurities.

4. Exfoliate: A mild soft exfoliator brush will help remove dead skin cells. Be gentle and avoid over-exfoliating.

5. Rinse Thoroughly: Gently rinse your face with lukewarm water to remove any remaining cleanser or exfoliator.

Closing Pores with Cold Water:
1. Prepare Cold Water: Fill a bowl with cold water, or you can add some ice cubes to make it even colder. Ensure it's cold but not uncomfortably so.

2. Cold Water on Your Face: Lean over the bowl of cold water and dab (with a disposable sponge) your face several times. Alternatively, you can soak a disposable washcloth in cold water and press it gently against your skin. This helps to close your pores by constricting the blood vessels.

3. Pat Dry: After closing your pores, pat your face dry with a clean, soft disposable towel (slightly larger than the disposable wipes. Avoid rubbing your skin, as it can cause irritation.

4. Apply Toner (Optional): If you use a natural toner in your skincare routine, now is the time to apply it. A toner can help balance your skin's pH levels and prepare it for the next steps in your skincare routine.
5. Moisturize: Finish by applying your regular moisturizer to keep your skin hydrated.
