Thank you to the amazing volunteers over the weekend who planted 344 native trees, shrubs and grasses on the Nymboida river to restore Habitat for the Endangered Eastern Freshwater Cod (Maccullochella ikei) 🐟🌱
These plants supplied by Friends of the Koala Inc. will help stabilise the bank, reduce erosion, provide shade and habitat for terrestrial and aquatic species.
Removal of Private, Lantana and other exotic weeds was undertaken by Biodiversity Doctor Australia prior to planting to reduce competition with native plants.
BackTrack Youth Works has also established 300 meter of fencing along the riparian, removing stock and allowing for revegetation.
This project was made possible through Foundation for Rural Regional Renewal - The Yulgilbar Foundation Fund Grant Program in partnership with OzFish Unlimited

Wondering what we mean when we say 'beachcombing' for our South Australian seagrass restoration projects?
This image shows the washed-up seeds, which get dislodged and then pushed onshore due to wind, waves and currents. These seeds would otherwise be 'lost', which is why we mobilise our volunteers to collect them, so we can process them for regeneration.
Pretty cool right?

Sydney fishers called to keep Watsons Bay clean this weekend OzFish Unlimited - Australia’s fishing conservation charity together with NSW DPI Fisheries are calling on recreational anglers to help clean up Watsons Bay this December 9th, 2023.
What a fantastic turnout to kickstart Seeds For Snapper SA for 2023! A big thank you to everyone involved 🤝
For the next few months, we are mobilising beachcombers and boaters to collect the fruit they find – either washed ashore or floating on the ocean’s surface. The fruits are then processed onshore in tanks, and the resulting seeds sewn into environmentally friendly biodegradable sandbags. These are then placed back in the ocean, at the correct depth, at identified locations.

AND THAT'S A WRAP!
The 2023 season of Seeds for Snapper has now come to a close with the last of the seeds being dispersed today. Habitat restoration is no easy feat sometimes, and this year shows that with unprecedented heat making for some difficult conditions.
But like OzFishers always do, we powered through!
The 2023 totals are:
🌱586 000 fruit
🌱670 000 seeds
🌱1551 hours volunteered
And all this effort over just 16 days!

Meet Robbie 👋
Robbie leads a team of passionate OzFishers in Moreton Bay, who are quite literally topping the world in shellfish restoration.
Working from Oyster World, and with the help of some amazing partners who share our vision, they are revolutionising how shellfish is restored in Australian waterways.
Last week, they did it again.
Check out the latest technique they have come up with to help bring back the lost shellfish reefs of Moreton Bay 👊

CAUTION! Do not eat these or use on salads. These are seagrass seeds, not alfalfa sprouts. Yes - thousands of them collected by our volunteers at Looks similar.... but very very different.

In the realm of environmental stewardship, partnerships are often the catalysts for transformative change. Our partnership with Landcare NSW, which has now concluded its third year, is a perfect example of that. We have been bringing together the fishing and Landcare communities over that time and have achieved some monumental milestones.
During the last 12 months alone, the partnership has seen Landcares and OzFishers combine at more than 15 locations across NSW to create environmental change. These efforts have been responsible for more then:
🌱 7000 native trees planted.
🌱 110 tonne of rock and 30 woody habitats placed into waterways
🌱 20 hectares of weeds removed
🌱 2 tonnes of rubbish removed
🌱 250 threatened native species released
🌱 1.2 km of fencing erected
🌱 8 community engagement events served
