🌱🌳✊We did it folks: 30,000 trees in at Nomans Lake!!! WOOHOO! ✊🌳🌱 What a fabulous effort bringing home the planting season for Activate Tree Planting!

Whether you were planting, cooking, organising, driving, first-aiding, DJing, building things, playing music, holding workshops, setting up, packing down, giving free hugs, or doing all of these things, all of you volunteers made this weekend happen so beautifully we’ll remember it for a long time to come. 🥰🥰

To host such an event is a huge deal: to Janey and Michael we say thank you for giving our tree family a home for the weekend, just as we thank the Armstrong family for giving our seedlings a forever home on their farm.

🌳We were so proud to partner with Carbon Positive Australia, who funded the seedlings for this community planting. 🌳

Huuuuuuuge gratitutde to the many organisations and local businesses that also sponsored and donated to make this happen:
💚Trillion Trees Australia for the use of tree-planting equipment.
💚Mulberry Tree Kids Club for the bus.
💚EPIRBhire - #1 for Satellite Phone Hire for the lending of safety equipment
💚Boola Boornap tree farm and Noongar Land Enterprise Group, who grew the seedlings

🍲🍞🥕Our FOOD HEROES keeping us fresh and healthy with the best quality produce:

💚Wild Bakery Freo
💚The Storehouse Fremantle
💚The Organic Collective
💚BioBean Coffee
💚Urban Forager

💃🕺Special mention goes to our party and AV wizards at The Graveyard and Barrett Sound & Lighting, who put in a blazing effort to keeping the tunes going and who put on THE MOST EPIC PARTY on Saturday night. 🤯🤯💃🕺

As well as our groovin' live musicians: The Bushrangers, Shadow Planet Band , Pearl Roycroft and Rae, Zoe Brennan, Men & Butterflies; and DJ's Innkeeper, F0X and Mia.

And of course to our OG’s, our Old Growth leaders and elders who support us young crew -- you're our strong trees at the centre of the forest, thanks for showing the way 🌳

We hope you'll join us again next year and become part of our tree family, ngala boorna moort!

Stay tuned for pics and tag us in yours!! 📸 🤟

The crew went down to Nomans Lake last weekend to check out the site where we’ll be planting 30,000 trees -- only 4 weeks away now! Justin and Kelly are the landowners and we’re so excited to be working together on this project… the trees we plant around watercourses and low-lying areas will slow the spread of soil salinity and create habitat and ecological corridors for wildlife.

We also dropped by Anne and Grant at Wuddi Aboriginal Cultural Centre in Dumbleyung, a short drive (by wheatbelt standards!) from Nomans. Anne and Grant have so much to share about their family and the culture and history of this place. We are so lucky they’ll be joining us for our festival! Check out their website and put one of their excellent tours on your to-do list: https://wudditours.com.au/

Huge thanks to our camp hosts, Janey and Michael, and to Mulberry Tree Kids Club for the use of your bus :D

Join us in August for a fantastic weekend! Get your tickets here, there are still some left! https://events.humanitix.com/activate-saplings-2024-noman-s-lake/tickets

Celebrating the beautiful forces of nature that are our mother figures… they lead with LOVE! ❤️
Forget lunch reservations, this is an opportunity to celebrate Mother’s Day (12 May) like never before with live music and connection in the community garden at Perth City Farm.

Activate Saplings are planting 30,000 trees this year – to raise funds, we’re holding an outdoor concert complete with stories and songwriters to inspire! Please support young people to plant trees, play music, and build community. And young people: treat your Mum to this event.

There will be raffle tickets, drinks, home-baked food and simple kids activities, and of course a lotta love. The biggest shoutout goes to mother nature, without whom none of this would be real.

Today is Thom Scott’s birthday, he would have been 71! 💜

🌳💚We remember planting trees side by side with Thom, and we will never forget the way he made us feel—seen, appreciated, respected, never disregarded especially as young people. He was a true elder, embodying grace and respect for the land and all people, gently guiding, alive with curiosity and openness, and young at heart.

🌱🧡Thom always imparted the importance of caring for the earth as a way of life. He inspired us not just to plant trees, but plant with the attention, care and dedication that makes a world of difference.

🌼Our young crew, Activate Saplings, are part of Thom and Rosanne’s legacy; we are so grateful to be part of this tree-family, Activate Tree Planting, and we want to honour and uphold their spirit and values in what we do.

💜Thom, you live on in your community, family, and the countless trees you planted that will protect and support the generations to come—just like you did.

We'll follow behind you, planting trees every step we can.
🌱🧡🌳Love, respect and the deepest gratitude.

Wow, Saplings!!! Our hearts are warm enough to last us way beyond the cold months! 🔥

To everyone who came, who supported us, or volunteered, thank you for such an incredible weekend – we achieved our target of planting 36,000 trees, but even better, you were a bunch of the awesomest people we ever could have wished for! 🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱

We have some very special shoutouts to a number of people and organisations – without them, both the tree-planting and festival could not have been achieved! 🙏

Our special thanks go to:

🌳 Anne and Grant for Welcoming us to Country (and lending us your bus!), and Adrian for a beautiful smoking at our closing ceremony.

🌳 Trillion Trees Australia, State NRM and South West Catchment Council for providing the trees, planting equipment and expertise, and to Angus Armstrong for inviting us to plant on his family farm and putting in some incredibly hard work into the planting prep.

🌳 The community and directors of Activate Tree Planting, who provided their resources, networks and mentorship to the Saplings.

🌳Seven Sins Perth Hills and Seb’s Selections by Seven Sins, Karravalley Orchards, Wild Bakery South Freo, Chef Ni**od Kazoom at Kazoomies Feel Good Food, The Organic Collective, and BioBean Coffee, all who generously donated or discounted the fresh and delicious food. And to Purple Engineering and Young's Maintenance for their help.

🌳And, of course, the Kitchen Magicians who ensured we were fueled with hearty meals after long days spent in the field.

🌳And who kept us grooving throughout the weekend? Nothing without Leo of the The Witchy Djypsies, who managed the sound equipment!

🌳Our musos: Beats Club, C0smic C0wb0y, Pearl, Tapemind (), Vissac, Zoe Brennan … plus a few extra DJs who came out of the woodworks to take us out of this world – THANK YOU!

🌳To yoga instructor Astrid warming us up in the mornings, and our resident woodworkers Rod Safstrom and artist Colin Clinch who spent the evenings carving away and teaching us their craft.

Some of the incredible photos here were taken by Deon Johnson Photography -- keep a look out for more to come, they are absolute stunners! 🤩

🌳Finally, our very deep gratitude to Janey and Michael, who hosted us on their property with such grace and warmth to make an unforgettable weekend 🥰

If you see them around, say hi – they love a friendly face! And while enjoying their stunning property, let’s remember to be mindful of our surroundings and leave the land as we found it. 🌳🌳 Thanks all!

We’re beyond excited to be partnering with the Murdoch Community Garden for our upcoming songdowner picnic on Sunday 23 April.

Why did we choose this space? Situated at the Environmental Technology Centre on Murdoch’s campus is a student oasis of communal garden beds and orchards where incredible volunteers plant and harvest their own produce and herbs all year round. For years, student and volunteer-led sustainable initiatives and workshops have made it the beautiful space that it is today.

We’re all for sustainable gardening, so it only makes sense for us to make the most of this ethical and inviting community-based space!

Join us for a wholesome evening splayed out in the garden with live local music, mingling with like-minded people and endless hot beverages and woodfire pizzas – using herbs from the garden, of course! – as the sun sets. All in anticipation for the thousands of saplings (now, 36,000 to be exact) we’ll be planting together in June.

With just over one week to go until the event, purchase your ticket online for $15 using the link below, or $20 for (limited) door tickets (student concession $18).

So spread the word, share this post with your friends and most importantly, get ready for a one-of-a-kind evening. See you there!

Exciting update! Over the weekend, our Activate Saplings crew united at Nomans Lake, Narrogin, to explore the beautiful site where we’ll be planting 35,000 native saplings with you all in early June 🌱🌱🌱

This will be the second tree-planting festival we’ve run so far, and we have so many volunteers to thank for making this all possible. A massive thank you especially to the Activate Tree Planting team for their unwavering support, to Angus for giving us a tour of his property and to Janey and Michael for opening up their home and heart to us to host the event.

We’re counting down the weeks leading up to what will be an unforgettable and fulfilling weekend of planting, music and good vibes – we’re so excited to see you all there! 🌱🎶💚
