When we show compassion towards others it is an action of feeling. We focus on understanding their energy and we sit with them.

We are present. We are both vulnerable.

Compassion is seeing the beauty in others and their story and to shed light on their darkness. When we connect in this space, it becomes a physical representation of healing and loving energies. This builds our trust, connection, vulnerability and relationship with that person.

When we spend time with ourselves we need to do the same. We need to be in a space that encourages us to plug into ourselves and see how we are. When we spend time with ourselves it is a concrete representation that we matter. When we reject spending time with ourselves our default patterns are self-rejection and people pleasing behaviours.

Pure forms of self-connection with self-compassion is through the simple things in life. Nature, food, discovery, curiosity and leaning into the idea that the world can hold us too.

Swipe for some pics of how I connect ✌️💙

The mind provides the lens of how we see reality and provides a voice for our feelings and relationships from what we feel in our body and intuition.

As children we absorb many learned behaviours from our parents and other important relationships. We learn to see how adults deal with problems and how these may directly or indirectly impact us.

The dialogue between our parents and ourselves when we make mistakes becomes the dialogue we speak to ourselves when we reach adolescence. At times we develop unhelpful thinking patterns in adolescence that occur regularly in adulthood. These unhelpful thinking habits can impact our awareness of feelings, relationships, health, habits and more.

Importantly, the mind comprises of the conscious mind, subconscious mind and the unconscious mind. The aim of this mind, body and spirit series is to unpack the common thinking habits and bring light to different understandings of our thoughts and lens.

The mind, body and spirit. The three key pillars of health that lives within us.

Some seasons of our lives require us to focus on certain areas more closely.

In psychological therapy, we can focus on these different aspects to address the presenting challenges in your life.

The mind, body and spirit need to be in alignment for us to move towards being our true self. When we start to feel "off" it is usually due to one of these pillars not being heard, understood or actioned.

These vinyl covers will be a guide to differentiate the different themes of content at a glance ✌️💙💛

Over the last several years as a psychologist, I have had thousands of sessions with clients of all ages and backgrounds.

During therapy, it is common to have moments where you feel time completely stands still and you feel a "breakthrough moment” with blocks you have been trying to push past or understand.

I’ll be sharing some statements shared from clients or myself in the upcoming months (here’s one to start us off).

Although every client is different, it is helpful to journal about these for yourself. You never know what you may discover! After all, we are only human too. 💙💛

Hey, Jackson here! A little about me…

Before becoming a registered therapist, I spent my fair share of time in the other chair. It was important to me that before I called myself a Psychologist, that I viewed myself as strong, internally healthy and consistent within.

It is important for me to practice what I preach and come from a place of confidence, compassion, knowledge and quirk.

My approach to therapy is somewhere between casual and clinical.

My strength lies in making sense of your mess/challenges by exploring:
- recurring patterns
- internal blocks
- your inner critic

And then, working towards building a positive, emotionally validating and compassionate relationship with yourself.

The only rule in therapy I have is too simply, "come as you are", and we will figure out the rest.

💙💛✌️

How do you show up for yourself? Do you set and stick to your boundaries? Do you push your limits and leave your comfort zone?

Ultimately the reputation with yourself is the only reputation you need to worry about when it comes to self confidence.

Grief shows you what is important in life. Grief shows you what parts of your life need more investment. Grief allows you to connect to your inner self and give you the opportunity and courage to change.

If you’re experiencing grief and feeling overwhelmed, remember that you will get through it and there are better days to come. Reach out to friends and family and take it one day at a time.

Working with many clients in my time, I have found that proposing a relationship to self is similar to a business investment. This results in a lot of truths unfolding in our sessions.

👉 Am I happy with the trajectory I am going?
👉 Is this what is lighting my soul?
👉 Does my friendship circle inspire me or exhaust me/waste my time?
👉 Have I put my needs on hold to please others?

A few question you can ask yourself and become aware of in your life.

Taking action vs motivation👇

The more you wait for motivation (aka ‘avoid something’) the more anxiety you will have.

The more anxiety you have the more doubt, self-criticism and self-judgement you will have.

Regardless of what you want to get motivated about, the answer always begins with action.

💥 Action is the inspiration for motivation
💥 Action is the precursor to motivation

I’m sorry to tell you, but the motivation you are waiting for won’t come by itself.

The key is to take action, no matter if you are motivated or not. Starting with any kind of task will motivate you to do more, thus leading to motivation to keep going!

Double tap if you’re taking action 💙💛

Do you listen to your body? Do you notice anything happening in your upper body?

Our stomach is a really good indicator of our stress response. It restricts our relationship with food, we can feel nauseous, we can have no control over our bladder and more.

Commonly with upper body manifestations of feelings, we see a tendency of:

👉 emptiness stemming from neglect/abandonment or lack of fulfillment

👉 rolled over shoulders or a heavy chest that is akin to helplessness and lack of validation

👉 headaches or neck pain that are akin to having challenges with the same problems and your body shuts down from overthinking and focuses on the pain.

The body is the vessel for all of our distress, if we do not make time to unpack whats happening in our body, our body will make deliberate forced effort to make time for it…

If you’re noticing any of the above,it’s best to seek support and guidance to prevent long term issues.

Do you listen to your body??

Our body communicates to us and sometimes it gets to the point of physical muscular pain/discomfort or burnout symptoms before we decide to make a change for ourselves.

When we try to escape our stress or our anxiety.

When we have unspoken truths.

These all sit and hang out in our body leading to bodily pain. This is referred to as psychosomatic symptoms.

The pictures above highlight certain parts of the body where individuals experience discomfort and the highest correlation of what problem they are currently facing.

Despite the widespread misconception, the mind and the body are not separated from one another.

👥 The mind-body link describes the close relationship that exists between an individual's physical health and their emotional wellbeing.

Our chemistry and biology have an influence on not just our feelings and ideas, but also on our emotions and beliefs 🗣

You've probably had some experience with the mind-body connection if you've ever been apprehensive and sensed a tightening in your stomach.

That “gut feeling” 🤔

The old saying “trust your gut” refers to trusting these feelings of intuition, often as a way to stay true to yourself.

Commonly, the disconnection from self is the driver for many mental health problems along with feelings of rejection, boundaries and resentment.

This series explores the mind body connection, what causes these manifestations and why/how they may appear in the body.

Connecting to yourself is similar to anything in life. If you want to master it, it takes time, mistakes, lessons and commitment.

Moving forward requires new tools and to move through the grief of letting go. Letting go of the past that you spent time investing in to take flight into a space of foreign land.

Connecting back to myself started like this:

👉 Looking myself in the mirror and being done with my own s**t

👉 Being done with the narrative of past lessons

👉 Being done with my old identity and limiting beliefs

👉 Moving forward

I wanted a new start. I wanted to honour my true inner self and express and live an authentic life that felt true to me.

I was done holding up a disconnected mask and the weight it drowned me in to live up to.

Connecting to yourself is a continual relationship with yourself and it does have the power to speed up! Speeding up can look like:

💛 Diving into things you always wanted to do
💛 Trying new experiences
💛 Saying yes to more things,
💛 Expressing the mess in therapy and to friends
💛 Being patient and accepting where you’re at

You cannot truly show yourself without accepting your imperfections, shortcomings and failures.

To hide these things we try to be perfect because if we are not perfect we will be discovered.

To be discovered means to be vulnerable.

We hide behind the action of being perfect because it protects us from truly being seen.

Perfectionism is not about excellence.

Perfectionism is about hiding.

Are you a perfectionist?

My approach to therapy is eclectic. Meaning it is an integration of several different types of therapy.

Importantly, in therapy, I use a type of therapy modality that best matches:
- our presenting concerns
- our understanding of the problem
- our goals for moving forward

Commonly, from my vast experience, the essence of therapy is as follows.

I assist in bringing further clarity into your life and establishing a stronger, healthier, purposeful version of yourself.

At the root, my approach is targeted to building a better relationship with yourself and allowing this to flow into relationships and other areas of your life 🙌

Specifically, I explore how feelings, thoughts, behaviors and relationship patterns impact your mental, emotional, physical and spiritual well-being 😎

In doing so, this makes for a clearer sense of reality, as facing reality is difficult but leads to a longer lasting change.

Together, let's enrich, live and breathe the best version of yourself.

Whether you feel like life's getting the better of you or everything is going smoothly, it’s always important to make time to look after your mental health 💙

Knowing where to start can be confusing and confronting.

Hence, we have put this 4 Step Workbook together to help guide you into a better you (across mind, body and vibes).

“Project You” is a self guided, step-by-step program designed to equip you with various resources to help deal with life's hurdles we often find ourselves tripping over.

Don't worry, this is not one of those self-proclaimed, life-coaching guides. This is simply just a collection of tools that we have found useful for both our clients and ourselves during our time as health professionals.

Additionally, this will be running parallel with our new podcast series starting in July.

Keep an ear out for this!

Are you ready to build an authentic and loving relationship with yourself?

Have you grown up always needing to be the "one" that solves family drama? Always trying to keep the peace?

If this is you, then you'll probably have a tendency in adulthood to do much the same. Whether that be between friends, work colleagues or family etc.

Continuing to have this pattern alive in your every day, means you are always focused on meeting other persons' needs rather than your own.

This is a problem within you, where you find it difficult to hold complex feelings and consequently reject your own needs, power and boundaries.

By continually adding yourself to the circus, you will always feel rejected. Rejected from them and rejected from yourself.

Changing the cycle begins when you demonstrate self-care and acknowledge that other people's problems aren't always your problem.

Acknowledging your own boundaries and saying "you know what, I'm going to honour myself and not take this problem on my own" is the way to change the pattern.

Instead, you will concentrate on the internal struggle that you are experiencing. This might present as an impulse to interject and fix or possibly a feeling of lack when it comes to support or validation.

This week I challenge you to honour yourself and speak your boundaries 📣 📣

If this is something you struggle with, please don't hesitate to reach out.

It is very normal for your awareness to change. But you may be a little stuck on where to start or what this looks like.

One of the most important factors in change and soaring to a better version of yourself is being aware of what is occurring in your life.

Some questions to ask yourself:

What problems do I find myself continually having?
What feelings do I notice occuring more regularly?
What dialogue do I continue having with myself?

The more awareness and different perspective we have to approach these tricky questions, the greater growth we can build from this ⛰

When we engage in different dialogue with ourselves and with others we unlock new pathways and new experiences 🗝🔓

When our normal becomes mundane or boring, normally this is because our awareness has attuned to the default to what is occurring around us and not what our awareness is teaching us.

The more we put ourselves in positions of new experiences, the more we can grow and build a better version of ourselves.

Does this help expand your knowledge on awareness?

Like, share and save as a small reminder 💛💙
