Our Melbourne club is very blessed to have hosted 5 different Grandmasters, many times each, over the 12 years we have been operating. Starting out with our official opening on 17th August 2012, we hosted SR Grandmaster Anthony Kleeman. We’ve been very fortunate to host SR GMAK multiple times over the past twelve years (2012, 2013, 2018 - twice, 2019 & 2023). We hosted GM Craig Bajraktarevic-Hayward in 2013, 2015 & 2017. Senior Grandmaster Ron Lew came to us from San Jose, California 🇺🇸 in 2013, 2015 & 2019. Grandmaster John Mac came to us from Cebu City in 2013 & 2014 🇵🇭. In 2016 Grandmaster Mike Barker came to our school from Borbon, Philippines 🇵🇭 I would also like to express my gratitude to SR GM Richard Bustillo, whom I hosted in Barcelona 🇪🇸 Each of these Grandmasters are highly skilled and direct disciples of SGM Cacoy Cañete ❤️ Photo includes Hanshi Tino Ceberano & G**o Dan Inosanto whom I’ve been fortunate to also train with.

After a number of decades we have today had our final classes at Moorabbin dojo. Thank you Hanshi Emin for your dedication to generations of students that you have passed your martial arts wisdom onto inside these walls. We have held countless gradings, tournaments, seminars and hosted senior instructors from around the world here and in the process created many fond memories for countless people.

Thank you to all those that assisted with the move today over to Bayside Kyokushin Karate in Highett.

A very big congratulations to Justin for earning his 2nd Grade Black Belt 🥋👏 Justin has been training in CCDP for 11 years & in martial arts for over 30 years. His dedication and continuous propagation of Cacoy Cañete Doce Pares is admirable. Justin has worked tirelessly at the helm of the Melbourne club for the past 2 years.

He continues to advance his own understanding through regular in-person training camps and has shown deep commitment to supporting our head instructors in Cebu City, by learning through the virtual platform as well.

Justin is a multi-award winning medallist at the Australasian Titles (2016) and the Centennial Cup (Cebu City, Philippines, 2019). He has supported & volunteered on our women’s self-defence programs all around Melbourne & girls’ self-defence at a Secondary College also in Melbourne. 8 years ago the world lost one of the most incredible martial artists ❤️Supreme Grandmaster Ciriaco “Cacoy” Cañete. Manong Cacoy was a formidable fighter having won over 100 no rules, no armour, no holds barred, full-contact “todo juego” bouts (he was one of the world’s first true mixed martial artists) an inspirational teacher, a family man, & WW2 veteran & Guerilla fighter, a 12th Dan Black Belt in Eskrima-Eskrido, an 8th Dan in Judo, a 6th Dan in Shorin Ryu Karate, 6th Grade Black Belt in Aikido, 8th Degree Black Belt in Jiu-jitsu & an accomplished wrestler & boxer. He was always ready to share a joke & make you laugh & always ready to fight. Every day we keep his legacy alive by training in the art of Cacoy Cañete Doce Pares Eskrima, Eskrido & Pangamot ❤️

Eskrido – was invented in 1948 by SGM Cacoy Cañete and is the combination of 3 arts: Eskrima, Judo and Jiu-jitsu and is also influenced by Aikido. It is an advanced close range development of the system that utilises self-defence methods such as stances, hand and arm holds, leg locks, foot sweep, arm shoulder and hip throws, disarms, hand strikes, wrist locks, balance breaking, finger grips, takedowns and many other movements. Ciriaco Cañete served with the U.S. Army Forces Far East (USAFFE) during World War II; during the Japanese occupation, Ciriaco (Cacoy) Cañete served as 2nd Lieutenant Combat Intelligence Officer, Cebu area (guerilla forces). In 1945, he was transferred to the 38th Military Police Company, where he served as Chief Instructor in Defense Tactics and trained the 38th & 39th MP companies stationed in Dumanjug, Cebu; after training was completed, Ciriaco Cañete was Military Police Detachment Commander and was stationed in Balamban and Tuburan, Cebu until his discharge in 1947. He studied at the University of Southern Philippines and taught martial arts in various Cebu schools. We proudly carry on his martial art ❤️

8 years ago today - was the last time I had some quality time with Manong Cacoy at the hospital in Cebu ❤️ I still miss him every day. I feel so privileged and passionate about carrying on his incredible martial art.
