Is running bad? 🏃🏽‍♂️

You often see people over the age of 50 running, and you might think to yourself “their knees and back would be horrible”.

Maybe….

But how about those under the age of 50 who can’t run at all? You can’t say its because of running that their knees and back are bad, because you don’t know 🤷🏽‍♂️

Here’s a photo to get your brain working:

74 year old sedentary male
Vs
70 year old triathlete

You can see that the bone density hasn’t changed, and that they still have more muscle mass than the sedentary male!

So therefore, you could have less chance of arthritic pain, and increase the amount of mobility that you have as you get older.

If running isn’t hurting you, go for it! If thats what gets you moving and keeping active, go for it! 👏🏼👏🏼

Yesterday we were at the MCG for Pancare Foundations Dare to Hope event 💜

The Pancare Foundation are a leading charity committed to inspiring hope, raising awareness, supporting families and funding research for upper gastrointestinal (GI) cancers.

This particular foundation holds a very special place in my heart, so for the month of July, Dynamic Therapy will be donating $2 to the Pancare Foundation from every person that gets a treatment.

We will be placing the link in our bio for anyone who would also like to donate 🫶🏻

STOP FOAM ROLLING YOUR ITB

The ITB is a thickened band of DEEP FASCIA.

It’s primary function is to stabilise the hip and knee, so therefore it’s supposed to be tight!

IT’S NOT SUPPOSED TO BE LOOSE 🤦🏽‍♂️

The only muscles that directly effect the ITB is the TFL and Glute Max.

If you have pain through your ITB - it could be referal pain from a muscle, or it could be excess pressure that you are putting through the ITB due to your hip function & stability.

So if you are having ITB issues, the goal is to figure out WHY it is giving you issues.

Fun fact:

It takes 140kg of force to effect 1cm of the ITB, so for the average size of an ITB at 20cm, it would take 2,800kg of pressure!!! 🤯

So foam rolling your ITB will be doing little to nothing 🤔

Should you rest when you’re in pain/injured?

This is quite a common question in the clinic.
This depends on the severity of the issue/injury.

If you have torn a muscle, sprained ligaments, broken a bone, then you might need to rest - TO A DEGREE. Resting completely, and not doing anything about it, may cause some long term issues (instability, compensation patterns, weakened areas), which could lead to further injuries.

Getting advice from a professional (.therapy ) would be the way to go. If you did tear something for example, you SHOULD get treatment. We can speed up healing, and we will also need to get you into a rehab program as soon as you are able to do so, without pain, as other areas of your body will begin to compensate.

If you just have shoulder pain, for example, rest is NOT THE WAY TO GO. Yes, by resting, the pain will most likely go, but as soon as you re-introduce load, the pain WILL come back. This is because you haven’t addressed the issue, you’ve just addressed the symptom 👎🏼

So if someone you’re going to recommends that you need to rest, ask why? 🤔

“I’ve never had pain doing this until now….”

I hear this far too often, and I understand where people are coming from when they say this.

Which is why I want to explain this here, so that people can finally understand why this happens.

The simple answer is, ACCUMULATION.

Poor posture over time = weakness
Short & tight muscles overtime = pain
Weight training over time = strength gain
Eating junk food over time = weight gain
Lack of sleep overtime = fatigue

This all leads to ACCUMULATION.

It’s at the point where your body has had enough. You’ve pushed it enough over time, that now, it will give you a signal that something needs to change. Pain is one of these signals.

What is Myotherapy? 🤯

Quite simply put, it’s a soft tissue approach to treating pain and dysfunction within the body.

How do we do this? 🤔

Our most important process in treating you, is first figuring out WHY you’re experiencing pain or dysfunction through a thorough assessment.

We then create a treatment plan that is catered to you only.

Treatment wise, we need to figure out what will be most beneficial for you.

We can do Dry Needling, Cupping, Myofascial Work, Trigger Point Therapy & Joint Mobilisations - but we need to figure out which technique will be best suited for you.

Our next step is to create long term change, and that will be a program that incorporates some type of exercise/rehab/movement, or a mixture of those.

Have you had a Myotherapy treatment before?

Let us know how you went 👇🏼👇🏼

Arthritis can be painful for many people 🦴

Unfortunately, people who suffer from it mainly take medications to ease their pain, and don’t know what else to do. 👎🏼

For a while now, we’ve been using the analogy “The stronger the bark, the stronger the tree” for almost every person who suffers from arthritis. 🌲

To interpret that, the stronger the muscles are around the bones and joints, the better the area with arthritis will be.

*We aren’t saying this will take away all of your pain*

But it can be a great way to start minimising your pain.

Luckily, the team at Dynamic Therapy can help with this. As we can give strength and conditioning programs! 💪🏼

If you are suffering with arthritis, or know someone who is, tag them or share this post with them 🙏🏼

ASSESSMENTS

We take our assessments very seriously at Dynamic Therapy 👊🏼

Why? Because if you can’t figure out what’s going on and what’s causing the clients pain or dysfunction - how do you know what to do? What to treat? What to strengthen? 🤔

We don’t “stab in the dark” and hope for the best, clients can do that on their own. We have a job to help, and if we aren’t able to figure out what to do, we’ll send you to someone who has a better idea and has more expertise in the area 🙌🏼

Unfortunately, we are seeing clients getting strung along for too long, with little to no results.

If you think that this is you, jump onto to our website and book a “Free Assessment” with any of our practitioners, or even call us, and we’ll let you know if we think we can help 🙏🏼

29/10/2021

It’s the first day back in the gym for many today, and this is a little reminder to not over do it 👇🏼

Leave your ego at the door. Take your time getting back into the movements. Take adequate rest periods. If something doesn’t feel right, that’s okay - try again another day. Don’t put unnecessary pressure on yourself.

For the first week, take it easy. Train at 60% - 70% and build up over the next few weeks. Going too hard, too soon, is the reason that you might flare up old injuries and feel pain.

You don’t want to go too hard and then you can’t lift your arm or sit down on the toilet tomorrow 😂

So get in there today, enjoy it, and don’t over do it.

Love,
Dynamic Therapy Team 🤘🏼

The Victorian government is telling us that the decision to shut out myotherapists is to minimise movement in the community. So let's look at this in real life -

👉🏻 Patient in debilitating pain;
👉🏻 Unable to access trusted myotherapist who 'knows' their pain story, what treatment helps and what doesn't;
👉🏻 Patient now 'moves' about community to access alternate care options;
👉🏻 Alternate care provided may not ‘work’ to ease the pain;
👉🏻 Same patient is now forced to seek additional care – perhaps from the same provider or may choose to access other care options;
👉🏻 Patient may even seek pharmaceutical relief – or visit their GP for prescription of pain medications; OR
👉🏻 Patient may avoid further treatment due to their vulnerability and fear of flaring their pain and possibly wake one day, unable to move due to their debilitating pain and end up in our hospitals.

Removing access to their trusted myotherapists for patients in pain may in fact create unintended consequences.

What could have been 1 interaction with their trusted myotherapist may now be multiple movements across the community.

Does this serve the governments theory to reduce community movement – we think not!

Let myotherapy be a part of the solution

We hear this quite a lot, unfortunately.

“I’ve got a mouth guard for my grinding, I wear it every night when I go to bed.” 😴

Sorry to be the one to break it to you, but it doesn’t help your grinding at all. If anything, it can make it WORSE. It will keep your jaw slightly open, and you will most likely clench even harder onto the mouth guard, causing excessive load through your jaw muscles. This could lead to TMJ dysfunction, headaches & lock jaw.

Mouth guards for grinding teeth at night = band aid 🩹

So let’s dig deeper. Why are you grinding your teeth at night? Is it due to stress? Is it subconscious? There’s a reason that people grind their teeth, it doesn’t just happen.

Sure, the mouth guards might help keep your teeth intact. Although the underlying issue hasn’t been resolved, so you’ll continue to grind your teeth.

Using mouth guards, while working out why you are grinding is great. As long as you are digging deeper to find the root cause.

MYOTHERAPY MATTERS

I’m a qualified Myotherapist of 20+ years. I am also proud to be the CEO for Myotherapy Association Australia and I want to say Dan Andrews, Heath Ministers and 'decision makers' within the Victorian government

Myotherapy helps people like you.

Myotherapy is a client-centred healthcare profession focusing on the assessment, treatment and management of the whole person, applying a range of evidence-informed skills and knowledge to support client outcomes. All of this in a CovidSafe way.

We are highly trained, we are safe and we MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

Recent changes in restrictions in Victoria have left Myotherapists locked out and unable to provide essential care for their patients in need. Victorians who are hurting, unable to have their pain managed by their trusted myotherapist. Myotherapists are unable to help you or those you care about due to these restrictions locking them out in the cold.

I firmly stand beside my members and behind the myotherapy profession, because we are essential, we play an important role in healthcare and the Victorian public need to be granted the basic freedom of choice; to have access to their trusted myotherapist.

People are in Pain. These arbitrary decisions to permit some healthcare and not others is burdening our frontline workers, contributing to unnecessary suffering physically and mentally for Victorians.

If you are someone who benefits from Myotherapy, please share this post to help bring awareness to this issue.
If you are a myotherapist on the receiving end of distressed and desperate calls/emails to access your trusted, qualified, clinical care please post a photo of yourself and copy the text to your post.

Myotherapy Matters because you matter.

Assessment is key 🔑

As you can see, the left scapula struggles to protract (move forward) during this movement, and on the way down, it also has an abnormal movement (wobble) to it.

In this case, the anterior shoulder pain that my client is feeling is due to his shoulder instability issue - which is excessively loading the deltoid muscle and causing shoulder pain 💥

This is what we do at Dynamic Therapy day in and day out - we figure out why. We do the work, we put in the hours, and we assess EVERYTHING.

If you have any questions about shoulder pain, DM us or comment down below 👇🏼

Headaches have always been a common issue within our clinic and unfortunately is a daily issue for a lot of our clients.

We are now seeing that many young teenagers and kids are also experiencing headaches 👎🏼

The thing is - they are often not as simple as you think and can be happening due to a number of factors - for example:

- Dehydration
- Posture
- Lack of sleep
- Breathing mechanics
- Stress levels
- Muscular tension

The easy path to take is to have some pain relief like Panadol or Neurofen and to keep going about your day. The problem is - you’re putting a very big band-aid 🩹 on an underlying issue that won’t just disappear.

The worst case scenario, is that your body gets used to the pain relief and every time you have a headache, your initial response is to is take more drugs. This creates a NEVER ending cycle that can become very dangerous.

Now this could all be resolved by something as simple as getting better quality sleep 😴 and drinking that extra glass of water a day.

So the next time you go to reach for the medicine cabinet, think “WHY am I getting headaches?” 🤔

Does this sound like you or someone that you know? Comment down below what your experience is 👇🏼👇🏼

When someone comes into the clinic with pain, it can be a difficult conversation to have.

Pain is a signal. When you feel any type of pain, you usually stop. It’s your bodies way of protecting itself from further damage.

Whenever something isn’t moving the way it should be, or something is becoming far too aggravated - pain is telling you that something isn’t right!

Pain is also multifactorial. It’s not as simple as people might think. For example:

- Emotions can change the way you feel pain.
- Your environment can change the way that you feel pain.
- Your diet can change the way you feel pain.

This “Cycle of Pain” is a simplified version of what happens when you feel pain.

1. You feel pain.

2. The area of pain will tighten up to protect itself.

3. Restriction and pain will lead to decreased movement.

4. Now you lack mobility to do certain daily tasks that were once easy.

5. The negative thoughts and emotions now become frequent.

We are now back to feeling pain because you have conscious and subconscious thoughts about your pain.

So what does all of this mean?

Pain is a cycle, and we can help you get out of the pain cycle. Our mission is to make you feel and perform as you should - pain free!

What makes the team at Dynamic Therapy different than any other clinic?

Our primary goal is to to tell you WHY. To explain WHY, and how we’re going to tackle the WHY. This is how we create long lasting results and not just temporary relief.

Areas of the body don’t just start hurting one day. It’s an accumulation of dysfunction, over time. Pain is the last thing to come, and the last to go.

If you’re not getting anywhere with your current therapist, ask why?

If you’re not sure where to begin, the team at Dynamic Therapy will help you on your journey. We figure out WHY.
