JOHN 3:33-36
Whoever has accepted it has certified that God is truthful. For the one whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God gives the Spirit without limit. The Father loves the Son and has placed everything in his hands. Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them.

PSALM 46
God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.
There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells.
God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day.
Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall; he lifts his voice, the earth melts.
The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.
He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth. He breaks the bow and shatters the spear; he burns the shields with fire.
He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.”
The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.

BIBLE VERSE REFLECTION - BISHOP PAUL BARKER
In this Sunday’s Gospel lectionary reading, John 1:1-14, John the Baptist emerges as a significant figure, chosen and sent by God to bear witness to the Light, who is none other than Jesus Christ. In these verses, there's a profound distinction – John was not the Light himself, but his purpose was to point others toward the true source of illumination.
In our lives, we often find ourselves in the role of witnesses. Whether through our actions, words, or attitudes, we have the opportunity to bear witness to the Light of the world. Consider the impact of your life as a reflection of the greater Light that dispels darkness.
John's purpose was to make the Light known so that others might believe through his testimony. Similarly, our lives are meant to be a testimony to the transformative power of Christ. Others should see the light of love, grace, and truth shining through us, drawing them closer to the ultimate source of light and life.
Reflect on the ways you can intentionally bear witness to the Light in your daily interactions. It might be through acts of kindness, words of encouragement, or simply living a life aligned with the teachings of Jesus. Like John the Baptist, we are called to point others toward the eternal Light that brings hope and salvation.

John 1:1-14
1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
1:2 He was in the beginning with God.
1:3 All things came into being through him, and without him not one thing came into being. What has come into being
1:4 in him was life, and the life was the light of all people.
1:5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it.
1:6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
1:7 He came as a witness to testify to the light, so that all might believe through him.
1:8 He himself was not the light, but he came to testify to the light.
1:9 The true light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world.
1:10 He was in the world, and the world came into being through him; yet the world did not know him.
1:11 He came to what was his own, and his own people did not accept him.
1:12 But to all who received him, who believed in his name, he gave power to become children of God,
1:13 who were born, not of blood or of the will of the flesh or of the will of man, but of God.
1:14 And the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we have seen his glory, the glory as of a father's only son, full of grace and truth.
Growing churches can seem so much easier at Christmas.
Inviting others is not as daunting as usual.
Services are well attended.
Visitors are all but guaranteed and know what to expect.
But it wasn't always so easy...
The Good News came at great personal cost to Mary.
A solitary Simeon saw salvation in a most unexpected form.
The most dazzling invitation was made to the smallest of audiences.
The growth of the church began with a mustard seed sized revelation in the corner of a grand empire.
Don’t miss the small things this Christmas
The faithful but solitary congregant
The people who will never attend a Christmas service because they have no one to invite them.
Don’t forget that love can be really costly sometimes, and that it may be seen most clearly in the smallest places.
