Andrew Laird, director of Life@Work, an initiative of City Bible Forum, has written the book Under Pressure: How The Gospel helps us handle the pressures of work to help us navigate the pressures of work with the truth of the Gospel.
In his book, Laird applies the general principles of biblical truth to our day to day circumstances, but being a professional he is aware of the edge cases where we need wisdom in applying the biblical truth.
But more than that, Laird also emphasizes the importance of the community of believers into the picture when handling pressures, as we cannot handle it on our own and we need the wisdom of our Bible-saturated community.

When we've become a Christian long enough, we must have heard this phrase at least once: "It is more blessed to give than to receive."
Did you know that Paul was quoting Jesus? It is Paul's farewell speech to the Ephesians elders before his departure. Paul emphasised the importance of hard work, helping the needy, and living a generous lifestyle.
This phrase captures the essence of Christian living with the heart of generosity and selflessness that we strive for. To give our time, talents and resources sacrificially is a reflection of God's character. God gave His only Son, Jesus Christ to die on the cross so that we'll have eternal life (John 3:16). This sacrificial love is the crux of our salvation and this motivates us to give sacrificially here on earth. Whether we give our time, talent or resources sacrificially, we are exemplifying God's character and this makes us more like Christ.

Romans 12:3-5: "For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you. For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others."
Philippians 2:3-4: "Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others."

Hebrews 10:24-25: "And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching."

Acts 2:46-47: "Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favour of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved."
High school is a time of significant challenges, where students face a multitude of worldly pressures and influences. It's reassuring to know that you’re not alone, surrounded by a loving and supportive group where we can be vulnerable and share our burdens.
COOL becomes a crucial anchor, a supportive community that shares one common value, and that is Jesus Christ.
As leaders, we are only the vessels who may sow the seeds of faith through guidance and example, but it is ultimately God who works in their hearts to bring about true transformation.
This spirit of mentorship and support is at the heart of what NextGen COOL is all about—helping kids grow and mature in the Word of God and raising up the next generation.

“For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light.” (Ephesians 5:8)
The great commandment that God has called His people to do is to love God with all of our heart, soul, and mind, and we are also called to love our neighbours as ourselves (Matthew 22:36-40). But to love someone is not as simple as paying lip service with empty words and promises. Rather, loving manifests itself through practical acts of service.
Serving others, then, is a natural by-product that would come out of the life of God’s people who have been saved. We can see that there is a relationship between our salvation with serving. The more we believe and certain that we have received salvation, the more we should be eager and motivated to serve. How so?

Throughout history, churches have played an important role in shaping societies, influencing cultures and championing causes. However today the positive impact of the church has been understated in the context of human history.
The church was involved in the civil rights movement in the United States and the campaign to end apartheid in South Africa. But despite the impacts that churches have done towards our secular society, the impacts have been largely taken for granted.
So how can churches reclaim its purpose in our modern society? What are the purposes of the church in this world? And how can we, as a church, make an impact in our society? Read the full article on our website.

2 Kings 6:16-17: “Don’t be afraid,” the prophet answered. “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” And Elisha prayed, “Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see.” Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.
This month’s book recommendation is Paul Miller’s ‘A Praying Church’. Books on prayer can err on two extremes: focusing too much on exegesis of the Scripture and not much practical applications or too much practical tips on prayer without deep exegesis of Scripture.
However, this book takes a balanced approach that delve into the inner workings of Pauline theology and how the New Testament speaks of the Spirit, but on the other hand it has a lot of down-to-earth, day-to-day, practical examples of what has worked (and hasn’t) in Paul Miller’s life and ministry.

2 Corinthians 3:7-9: "Now if the ministry that brought death, which was engraved in letters on stone, came with glory, so that the Israelites could not look steadily at the face of Moses because of its glory, transitory though it was, will not the ministry of the Spirit be even more glorious? If the ministry that brought condemnation was glorious, how much more glorious is the ministry that brings righteousness! "
Whereas our cultures tell us how outdated and irrelevant our parents are, God values highly of the authority God has bestowed in our parents. God values honouring parents so much that He even included it as one of the commands in the Ten Commandments (Exodus 20:12). Later on, this command in the New Testament (Ephesians 6:1-3). Paul even went on further and warned Timothy that disobedience to parents is one of the godliness people have in the last days (2 Timothy 3:2).
But why? Why does God value our parents so highly that He commands us to obey and honour them, even as we become independent adults? And what can we do to restore honour to our parents in an individualistic culture?

2 Timothy 3:14-15, "But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus."
Our culture has been conditioning us since we're born on how to think, how to act, and how to react. The influence of our culture is so prevalent and ubiquitous. Did you know that the current generation of school-aged kids is feeling more stressed than ever today? Our unhealthy obsession with grades (as parents) has finally taken its toll on our children's mental health.
When we say to our children, your main goal is to get good grades. Do we realise what we're telling them implicitly? It is this: being successful in this world is all that matters and you must strive for that.
The book of Proverbs teaches us about wisdom, and wisdom is essential in parenting. Since parenting can be challenging, we need Godly wisdom to help us navigate these things.
