Happy fathers day to all my Dad clients today.😃
With the current state of the health system, prevention has never been more important.
Tip # 89 - Learn to read food labels. Know the various forms of sugar used, what the ingredient order means, what amounts of sugar, fat, fibre etc to look for. Knowledge is key and is correlated with better health. Comment if you’d like a copy of my "Reading Food Labels" handout.
I'm on my way home. We've had the best trip to Qld but it's almost time to get back to work.
I'm back in the clinic on Tuesday 13 August. Let me know if you need to book in to see me or if you need to order any product refills. See you all soon.
Not many people realise that we need to increase our protein intake as we age. This study shows how important it is in terms of preventing hip fracture in women. Surprisingly, tea and coffee get a positive nod here too. 😀☕🫖
How women can reduce the risk of hip fracture Increasing intake of protein and drinking regular cups of tea or coffee is a way women could reduce their risk of suffering a hip fracture, according to new research. Food scientists have found that for women, a 25g a day increase in protein was associated with, on average, a 14% reduction in their....
Only 1 week of our trip left. 🥲 Had 3 days of gale force winds at Nambucca Heads which created some impressive surf. Really enjoyed checking out Port Macquarie and the 1km boardwalk through the Sea Acres Rainforest plus were impressed by the incredible sand dunes at Anna Bay.
I’ll see you back in the clinic in just over a week. 😊
Tip #88 - Move all soft drinks to the laundry, because they make excellent cleaning agents (and that’s about all).
I love what I do!
Tip # 87 - Eating 3 Brazil nuts per day will give you your selenium needs each day. Selenium is important for thyroid function, is a great antioxidant and can help keep autoimmune antibodies under control in autoimmune conditions.
Loving Tin Can Bay and Rainbow Beach. I highly recommend seeing the Carlo Sand Blow at Rainbow Beach. An impressive moonscape of wind blown sand created by nature. I can’t believe I’d never heard of it before.
Sunshine and interacting with nature feeds the soul. 😁🥰
Happy international self-care day. What are you going to do today to maintain your health and wellbeing today?🌞🌷✍️💃🥗
Are you your biggest critic? This sorts of positive self talk has been shown to physically change the rewiring of the brain towards a happier, more positive state.
Tip # 86 - Eat more orange foods such as pumpkin, carrot and sweet potato. They contain carotenoids. This actually causes a slight change in the colour of your skin and studies have shown that people rate those with this slight “orange glow” as looking healthier and more attractive.
Today is my birthday (53!!!😱) and today I am grateful for everything in my life that makes me happy, healthy and fulfilled, including all of my wonderful clients. Thank you to everyone who supports and cares for me. I am truely blessed.🥰
After 3 full days on the road we finally made it to 1770 just in time for sunset. Finally time to start relaxing 😌
This is something I'm planning to do a lot of while caravaning along the Qld coast.
As part of my required ongoing leaning hours, I recently attended a fantastic webinar on adult ADHD. Did you know a lot of common conditions often co-occur with adult ADHD. Anxiety, insomnia, chronic pain, restless legs, tics, migraines, fibromyalgia, binge eating, substance use disorders, addictions, pre menstrual dysphoric disorder just to name a few. Gut health and neuroinflammation are 2 of the key areas to address.
Tip #85 - Give focus to both strength and flexibility in your workouts.
Strength without flexibility leads to rigidity, and flexibility without strength leads to instability.
Make sure your workouts include both strength training (weights and body weight bearing exercises) as well as flexibility training (stretching and yoga).
Tip # 84 - The best way to slow or reverse dementia is to exercise. Aim for 30 mins/day.
See if you can do one of these idea each day for the coming week. I promise you'll feel the benefits of it by next weekend.

Drinks are a huge potential source of extra sugars. However, people often forget about this one.
I've noticed some consistent themes emerging in the health of my clients recently. Do any of these sound like you?
5 emerging health themes I’ve noticed | Balm Natural Health Over the last few years, I’ve noticed some consistent emerging health themes in my clients. This article explores those themes
Tip # 83 - Learn to say no more often. People pleasing, perfectionist type A personalities are the most likely to experience burn out and soldier on regardless when exhaustion is setting in. Learn to set boundaries and look after yourself and take unnecessary pressure off when your body is telling you it needs it for the sake of your physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.
We are not alone🤣!
Many health issues can be due to poor gut health and our bodies give us signs when something is not quite right. Here are some red flags which your gut may be waving at you.
6 red flags your gut is waving at you | Balm Natural Health All disease begins in the gut. This is what Hippocrates, the father of medicine said over 2000 years ago. Modern medicine has not only lost sight of this to an extent, but also the idea that our bodies give us signs when something is not quite right in the gut. These red flags that our bodies wave a...
Tip # 82 - Eat cruciferous vegetables every day to help balance hormones. A nutrient in broccoli, cauliflower, Brussel sprouts, cabbage and kale helps the body efficiently metabolise and detoxify oestrogen levels, helping ease PMS and peri-menopausal symptoms.
Every part of the body is connected. The human body is not a collection of separate organs or systems, and we are far more than just the sum of our parts. Naturopathy truely embraces this concept.🌷💙
Here's a nice quick, easy and warming cauliflower soup recipe for your end of the long weekend dinner.
Cauliflower soup While my younger self would be appalled, I love cauliflower. Whether it be in a creamy cheesy bake, a spicy Indian curry or as a substitute for rice. When the weather starts cooling down, it’s little wonder my thoughts turn to cauliflower soup. This cauliflower soup recipe hits the spot, with its ...
