Afloat Swim
Afloat Swim is a premier program dedicated to teaching infants and young children the vital skills of self-rescue swimming.
Our mission is to empower children as young as six months old with the confidence and ability to survive an aquatic emergency.

Keep kids swimming throughout winter
According to Royal Life Saving, almost a third of all drowning deaths of children under five occur in autumn and winter.
During summer children are keen to participate in swimming activities and frequently practice their aquatic survival skills outside of lessons without even realising. This additional practice is often very noticeable when children return to lessons showing progression.
However when the temperatures start to drop, the idea of swimming and lessons often loses its appeal.
It is important to remember that taking extended breaks where children arenât swimming at all can set them back and when they eventually do return to the water after weeks or months they will have a LOT of catching up to do.
A key factor of how we learn â especially in children â is through repetition. Breaking this pattern could see children losing the skills they once had and spending a longer time in a level reacquiring those skills. Make sure youâre continuing your childrenâs swimming lessons to ensure time spent previously learning isnât wasted.
When children have had an extended absence from the water or lessons we often see a decrease in retention of skills. Continuing swimming lessons throughout winter will allow them to continue learning and also help them to develop skills that will enhance their aquatic survival and safety in and around water.
Call 1800 543 779 or email [email protected] to enrol your child into our accelerated survival program or if they are an existing student they might benefit from an intensive week of lessons delivered throughout the school holidays to enhance their water safety.

Children under five are most at risk of drowning, with an average of 23 deaths and 183 hospitalisations annually across Australia.
âMost times we think, 'this won't happen to me'. We should not have that attitude. This can happen to anyone. Particularly at the young age group of zero to five, all you need is momentary loss of supervision,â says Dr SV Soundappan, a trauma surgeon at the Children's Hospital at Westmead.

"Toddlers are curious and increasingly mobile but lack an understanding of water-related hazards, making them vulnerable to drowning in and around the home, particularly in private swimming pools and dams on rural properties. The drowning rate triples after a childâs first birthday, with the rate peaking at one year of age. 42% of all non-fatal drowning incidents occur in children aged 0-4 years" Souce: Australian Water Safety Council

This Summer, Randwick City Council and Waverley Council in partnership with the UNSW Beach Research Group have launched âFloat to Surviveâ campaign to help reduce national drownings.
Float to Survive promotes floating as the best chance of survival for swimmers who get into trouble in the water.
âOur Float to Survive message is that if you can master the skill of floating, even if you are not a good swimmer, you are more likely to survive and be rescued,â Dylan Parker - Mayor of Randwick Mayor of Randwick said
Bruce Hopkins coordinator, Waverley Council Lifeguard Service, said learning how to float is easier than learning how to swim and âcould be the difference between life and deathâ.
At KASS, Back Floating is a core foundational skill we teach as part of our survival program. We advocate back floating could save a child's life. It enables a child to remain buoyant at the waterâs surface, which allows them to maintain an effective body position for breathing and breathing means life.

Float to Survive
Just say no to children's floaties. Children wearing floaties are rewarded with the perceived ability of being able to swim, breath and have fun. Take away the floaties and they remember the position they were successfully swimming in, unfortunately this is the perfect drowning position.
KASS teaches children skills to survive in the event they fall into water, we never use floaties.

Summer is upon us and toddlers can be a constant worry around water.
Kids Aquatic Survival School (KASS) can help.
We teach children life saving skills in weeks not years: water posture and how to float from 6 months, swim to safety from walking age and strokes to older graduates.
At KASS we don't do floaties, lessons are 1:1, parents don't get in the pool.
Many parents say they feel a sense of relief knowing their child can self rescue. While we do not replace fences and supervision, we are an additional layer of protection against drowning.
