Are you planning to apply for a Student or Student Guardian visa? Some important changes took effect on 1 July.

Temporary Graduate, Visitor, Maritime Crew and certain other temporary visa holders can no longer apply for a Student visa or a Student Guardian visa when in Australia.

Holders of these visas (Subclass 457, Subclass 482 and Subclass 494) who stop working with their sponsoring employer will have more time to find a new sponsor, apply for a different visa or arrange to depart Australia. These visa holders will have up to:

• 180 days at a time, or
• a maximum of 365 days in total across the entire visa grant period.

Migration Program Planning Level 2024-25

From July 2024, the provisional Business Innovation and Investment visa (subclass 188) will close to new applications and expressions of interest.

Applications that have already been lodged will continue to be processed in line with government processing priorities and migration planning levels.

Current subclass 188 visa holders who meet the criteria may still apply for the Business Innovation and Investment (Permanent) visa (subclass 888).

If eligible, 188 visa holders may apply for the extension stream if they require extra time to meet 888 visa requirements.

Are you an international student who has recently graduated? If you are looking to apply for a Temporary Graduate Visa (Subclass 485), please note that some of the requirements are changing. If you apply for a subclass 485 visa in the Graduate Work stream from 1 July 2023, you will need to show:

🎓 You have a qualification relevant to an occupation on the skilled occupation list, and

📥 You have applied for a skills assessment in your nominated occupation on the skilled occupation list.
