Eid Mubarak!
Flight operations on international routes, except to China, resumed today on a limited scale after over three months' suspension -- to and from Bangladesh -- due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Carrying only transit passengers, a flight of Qatar Airways left Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 3:00am for Doha, Director of HSIA Group Captain AHM Touhid Ul Ahsan told The Daily Star. Touhidul also said another aircraft of Qatar Airways landed at the Dhaka Airport at 2:10am.
Earlier on June 11, Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh decided to resume flight operation on international routes, strictly following the health safety measures and guidelines of CAAB including ensuring social distancing.
Initially, only Biman and Qatar Airways will operate flights on international route. Biman will operate on the Dhaka-London-Dhaka route while Qatar Airways will be allowed to carry only transit passengers to Doha on their way to other destinations as Qatar has barred passengers from Bangladesh from entering their country.
Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) Chairman Air Vice Marshall M Mafidur Rahman said flight operations on other international routes will resume gradually. CAAB already issued guidelines for air operators, airports and passengers as part of its efforts to resume flight operations on domestic and international routes on a limited scale.
Bangladesh has also suspended issuing visa-on-arrival for nationals of all countries until further notice as the coronavirus outbreak in the country intensified. However, foreign investors and businessmen with valid credentials to avail the service, according to a notice issued by the home ministry's Security Services Division on Tuesday.
Investors and businessmen must submit to the immigration counter a medical clearance certificate in English issued within 72 hours of a PCR test. Earlier, Bangladesh initially banned visas-on-arrival from Mar 15 to Mar 31 in a bid to limit the spread of the coronavirus. The ban was later extended to Jun 15.

It's not the right time to travel, but who says we can't dream? So dream of all the things you'll discover in Malaysia and when the time is right, we will take you there.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) has increased the ongoing ban on scheduled passenger flight operations with all countries, except China to contain the spread of Covid-19. According to the new decision, flights on international routes will be suspended till June 15th, 2020.
The ban will continue to apply to existing air travel routes with Bahrain, Bhutan, Hong Kong, India, Kuwait, Malaysia, Maldives, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Thailand, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom.
In the same order, following the rules of all hygiene and cleanliness, the domestic flights will operate on four domestic routes at Dhaka, Chittagong, Sylhet and Syedpur on a limited scale from June 1, 2020.
However, cargo, relief-aid, air ambulance, emergency landing and special flight operations will be outside the scope of the ban.
EID MUBARAK!
CAAB extends flight suspensions till May 30, 2020
Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh today extended the ongoing ban on scheduled passenger flight operations with all countries, except China, until May 30 to contain the spread of Covid-19.
The countries are Bahrain, Bhutan, Hong Kong, India, Kuwait, Malaysia, the Maldives, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Thailand, Turkey, UAE and the UK, CAAB Chairman Air Vice Marshal M Mafidur Rahman said in a video message.
Flight operations on domestic routes will also remain suspended until May 30, he added.
However, cargo flights, air ambulance, emergency landing, special flights, and relief carrying flights will be outside the purview of the restriction, the release said.
National flag carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines today also extended the ongoing ban on flight operations on all its 17 international and seven domestic routes until May 30.
This is the fifth time it extended the flight suspension period as the government earlier stretched it from March 31 to April 7, from April 8 to 14, from April 15 to 30 and April 30 to May 7 while the ban on some international flights first began on March 16.
Meanwhile, different countries, including the US, the UK, Canada, Turkey, Sri Lanka, Australia, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Bhutan and Nepal so far operated several special chartered flights amid the flight suspension to repatriate their citizens from here.
The Bangladesh government also facilitated chartered flights to bring back its nationals from a number of countries, including India, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia and Maldives.
Earlier this week, Rahman had told The Daily Star that they were planning on resuming domestic and international flights on a limited scale after May 16 if the Covid-19 situation improved or remained steady.
