In a quiet corner of a bustling city, there was a small, neglected garden behind an old apartment building. Among the overgrown weeds and cracked soil, a lone sunflower seed was planted by an elderly gardener named Elsie. She tended to the garden with the care of someone who truly understood the magic of growth.

As the days turned into weeks, the seed lay buried beneath the soil, unseen and untouched. The world above was full of noise and haste, but beneath the surface, something miraculous was happening. The seed was slowly sprouting roots, reaching out into the earth, gathering strength and nourishment.

Elsie knew that growth took time. She patiently watered the soil and protected the garden from pests, her hands gentle and encouraging. She often whispered to the seeds, “Grow with grace, and soon you'll touch the sky.”

After weeks of waiting, a tiny green shoot emerged from the earth. It was fragile, yet determined. The sun was its greatest ally, bathing the young plant in warmth and light. Day by day, the shoot grew taller, its leaves unfurling like delicate fingers stretching towards the sun.

Passersby in the city hardly noticed the tiny flower at first, but as it continued to grow, it began to catch their eye. The once-small sprout became a vibrant sunflower, its golden petals a beacon of hope and resilience amidst the urban gray.

People stopped to admire the flower, marveling at how something so beautiful had emerged from such an unassuming beginning. They were reminded that, just like the sunflower, growth often requires patience and perseverance. Even in the most unlikely places, with the right care and determination, remarkable things can bloom.

And so, the sunflower stood tall, a symbol of how growth, much like a flower, can transform the ordinary into the extraordinary. 🌻

Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about the importance of balance in life. It’s easy to feel like we need to be everything for everyone—constantly giving, constantly available, constantly putting others first. But I’m learning that it’s okay to shift that balance when life calls for it.

Right now, I’m in a season where being there for my dad, who’s recently started dialysis, has taken some priority. It’s been a challenging time, the last two weeks , and I’ve realized that I can’t be fully present for everyone else when my heart and energy are so focused on him. And that’s okay.

Balance doesn’t always mean equal parts; sometimes it means knowing where you’re needed most and allowing yourself to be there, fully and without guilt. It’s about recognizing that you can’t pour from an empty cup and that it’s okay to let some things go or slow down in order to give your best to what really matters.

This doesn’t mean I’m stepping away from my work—it’s about making time in my schedule to be there for someone who has always been a guiding light in my life. Balancing my professional commitments with the need to be present for those who matter most is an essential part of life. Where I have been thankful that life has made a day clear for me to help dad on some Tuesdays, to drive him from Healesville to box hill & support him in this journey , the time I have got in the car is precious reflecting.

In my work, I see every day how precious time is. It’s easy to get caught up in the rush, trying to be everything for everyone, but it’s important to remember that our energy isn’t infinite. Just like a lighthouse stands firm, offering its light without chasing after every ship, we, too, must find our own balance. We must recognize when it’s time to shine brightly at work and when it’s time to direct our light inward, towards the people who’ve been a constant source of strength and support in our lives.

This balance doesn’t always come easily, but it’s okay to adjust your focus when life demands it. It’s okay to make space for what matters most. If you’re navigating a similar journey, remember that it’s not about doing it all, but about doing what truly matters. Let your own light guide you, and know that it’s perfectly fine to take time for those who have helped you find your way.

This weekend, I used the lighthouse metaphor in my workshop , I found myself reflecting on the metaphor of a lighthouse—something that resonates deeply with the work I do. Just as a lighthouse stands tall, unwavering in the face of storms, guiding ships safely to shore, I see myself as a beacon for my clients.

In the midst of life’s challenges, I aim to be that steady light, helping to navigate through the rough waters of stress, pain, and emotional turmoil. The lighthouse doesn’t chase after the ships; it simply shines, offering guidance and safety to those who seek it. In the same way, I hold space for my clients, allowing them to find their own way to healing, while being a constant source of support.

It’s a powerful reminder that we don’t have to do it all—we just need to stand firm in our purpose, shine our light, and trust that those who need us will find their way to our shores.

And one last piece: find the calm within you. This is a lesson from my teachings and a reminder that, like the lighthouse, your strength and peace are already within—you just need to let them. Why do I stand out as a massage therapist? This question has been central to my journey over the past 14 years. What sets me apart isn’t just my experience, but how I’ve chosen to use it—to focus on the depth and quality of each session, treating every client as a whole person rather than just a collection of symptoms.

As bodyworkers, we often pour our energy into others, sometimes to the point of exhaustion. I’ve experienced this firsthand, working in day spas and other environments where the emphasis was on seeing as many clients as possible. While those experiences taught me valuable skills, they also led me to burnout, leaving me feeling drained and disconnected from the meaningful work I wanted to do.

The recent retreat I worked at was a powerful reminder of why I chose to shift my approach. It reinforced my commitment to being fully present for my clients, providing them with the care they truly deserve. I realized that to be there for my clients, I needed to ensure my own well-being first. Instead of pouring from a half-empty glass, I focus on replenishing my energy through self-care practices like spending time in nature, meditation, and allowing myself to rest.

What makes me different as a therapist is my holistic approach. I’ve integrated my knowledge of Havening, NLP, hypnotherapy, and belief work to offer more than just physical relief. I help clients release emotional patterns, reframe limiting beliefs, and step into a more empowered state of being.

As I prepare to begin oncology training in September, I’m more dedicated than ever to creating safe spaces for my clients, especially those facing significant health challenges. This next step is about deepening my ability to hold space for others, offering comfort and healing when it’s needed most.

We all have different paths in this profession, but my focus is on providing personalized, meaningful care that addresses the whole person—body, mind, and spirit. I’m not just providing a service; I’m offering a partnership in healing, a space where each client can truly be seen and supported.
