Henry “Harry” Moakes – in the only name mentioned w.r. soccer in the 2 general history books. Henry William Moakes came from Malta in 1952 and was living at 27 Station Avenue. Wife – Annie. He was a metal worker. In 1955 he formed the youth-based Ajax Soccer Club which later became the Green Gully Ajax Soccer Club. Refer to excerpts from StAlbans 100 Years and Jeff Maynard’s book.

Franz Kolbl was at 57 Oberon Ave in 1977. Also Maria and Gertrude Kolbl at that address. Harry Moakes says that: “Frank Kolbl, a German immigrant who drove to each match in his Kombi van bearing a 44-gallon drum with the club's water needs. There was no water or electricity at the Green Gully Reserve in those days. Kolbl laid a concrete slab and smoothed it out by using goalposts. He then erected a tin shed on the concrete; the shed served as the clubhouse for a decade. "He had typical German know-how," Farrugia said.” [Green Gully1.doc]
Charles Farrugia was one of the Presidents of Green Gully Soccer Club.
Fritz Schwab had been the Treasurer of the club, who walked out of the 1966 committee meeting (see local newspaper article). Other names mentioned T Vella, S Fragopoulos, M Milenkovic, A Wilson, V Jakob, F Harbach, H Klaus, Mr Gangur
Kon Danilow - There were several soccer clubs around St Albans. There was the St Albans club and Keilor City on Churchill Reserve on the corner of Grace Street and Fox Street. I think there was another one further down. I remember Joe Borg was involved. Green Gully came later.
There was Louey Denys who played for St Albans, Joe Muscat ended up with Green Gully but played with Keilor and other clubs. Ernst Burgoyne was another one who played for Keilor with Joe Muscat.
It was called St Albans Soccer Club at that time. Our parents went to watch the soccer games at Churchill Reserve. The group that is now there is St Albans Dynamo but they don’t have much information about the earliest days. They took over the old club about 1982 but the old nostalgia and history is gone. It started off as mixed nationalities but in the early 1970s people wanted to form ethnic clubs. Dynamo was the Croatian side, Keilor City was the Polish side, and Green Gully Ajax became the Maltese side. Keilor City went to Maribyrnong-Polonia
St Albans Saints was formed by Croatian migrants as Dinamo in 1975. In 1982 the club took over the German backed St Albans Soccer Club which was near bankruptcy, becoming St Albans Dinamo and taking residence at Churchill Reserve in St Albans, where the club still remains to this day.
