Holly's Backyard Bees
Seasonal, sustainable, and ethical organic produce available from the overflow of our farm garden. F We are always open to a trade and bartering too!!
Our little 'Hale Farm' located in the Yarra Valley, Melbourne is one designed on Permaculture principles. We are blessed enough to have plenty of space for an orchard, a large veggie garden, chooks, pigs, sheep and an apiary to supply our own family with fresh, seasonal and organic produce. Our patch often supplies us with more than we need and this business page will allow us to spread the surplus with those local to us.
Some extra offerings in the honesty box today! Homemade raspberry jam ($7 per jar) and some freshly cut honeycomb (ranges between $6.50-$11 depending on weight)...perfect for your cheese board! Come and get it!
31 Bamfield Rd, Mt Evelyn.
Only 1 sleep to go! First 2 sessions are booked out, but still 13 tickets left for the 3.30pm session if you want to join us.

What a privilege it is to visit so many kindergartens each year with my bees. These visits spark a special interest for some children and sometimes I'm lucky enough to see their creations that have germinated from the little seeds sown!
This legend at Yarralea Children's Centre spent 5 hours over several days working on this creation to make his very own beehive and frames. This truely warms my heart and I'm so grateful for such wonderful educators who support the children in their learning about bees, nature and caring for our world.
Thanks for having me along Yarralea Children's Centre !
We are excited to host a series of "Hale Farm" open days over the Easter school holidays where you can enjoy a guided tour of the farm, discussion about permaculture design and food growing, and visit all the animals. We are located in Mount Evelyn, in the beautiful Yarra Valley and have been running "Farm School" programs for primary aged children for the past 3 years and would love to open up to others, both young and old who are interested in visiting too!
We will have the pizza oven fired up and refreshments available for purchase (including my daughters famous scones with home made jam and cream) if you want to enjoy some of the farm produce while you are here. There will be some honey and other "Holly's Backyard Bees" products available for purchase on the day also, so please bring some extra cash with you if you are interested in this.
Several sessions will be available across the day, so find a time that suits you and your family and we look forward to meeting you all then!
(Ticket pricing $15 p/p with food available to purchase on the day also).

Here is my response to the new survey being run by and OT therapy board Australia - the survey stated they are seeking views on factors influencing the retention and attrition of occupational therapists in Australia.
Well, I thought that was wonderful that they are interested in hearing people's experiences in this capacity so I jumped on immediately to do the survey... There was a lot of demographic data that was collected to begin with and then a bunch of questions about why you love OT and how long you plan to work as an OT.... And then essentially nothing about the factors of why people leave the profession. Not one single option for an open ended response where a clinician could express "other" factors that might impact on retention and attrition! Come on you are better than that ..let's get a FULL and ACCURATE representation on this issue. I love being an occupational therapist and the field of occupational therapy, but I remain prohibited from working the field of my expertise in acute medicine because of mandates. That's why retention is an issue for me and many others... Let's get this survey amended ASAP and have a real discussion about attrition and retention in healthcare!
Flashback to my early January apricot harvest! I spent many hours bottling, dehydrating and stewing this delicious summer crop...a lot of work at the time, but we can now have summer in a bottle anytime we like!
Thanks bees for the awesome pollination job this year!
All set up for the "STEAM Goes Green" event at Altona Meadows Library and Learning Center. Such a fabulous event
Come down and say hi!
Bee-autiful play spaces and craft ideas at Dr Charles Prouse kindergarten last week. Amazing educators, intentionally teaching our little ones about the wonders of bees!
Baby quails! We set the incubator going with one of my regular farm school groups a few weeks ago... These speedsters are so tiny and super cute! I just love springtime on the farm!
The babies are here! Born on Monday night after an eventful labour. Topsy had triplets but one had sadly died in utero (most likely at least a week earlier as she was quite small and had stopped growing). This caused a few complications which I needed the expert assistance of my friend and mentor to help me navigate! Thanks Kirsti for coming over and helping deliver the bubs... couldn't have done this without your help...you are a legend!
Now to name them! There is one boy and one girl... suggestions?
Goat kid cuddles... Our current favourite thing!
I know I have said this before, but I never thought that running our little farm would involve periods of time where I am incessantly inspecting the rear end of my animals! Topsy is due to kid today, but no babies yet. She will stay in the shed tonight with Cinders in the stall beside her for moral support in case she needs it. Hopefully some babes in the morning!
The busy bee workshops have been a hit! Helping children and adults alike to find a connection with bees, how our food grows and caring for our environment is such a privilege. This little legend was loving his time amongst the cherry trees as a budding beekeeper! Thanks for joining me
Still places available for our workshops on Wednesday - Sunday...bookings via the CherryHill website.
This is how we spend our spring holidays... Love working with this legend...she makes a pretty awesome sugar cookie too!
Who would ever want a bunch of flowers when veggies look this darn beautiful!
Such great artworks by the children at Gray Court Preschool! It's seriously the best job partnering with fabulous educators to teach little ones to love and care for our world. Thanks for having me along for a visit last week!
Foggy mornings are the best time to see these beauties! Signs of a wonderful designer!
Sometimes you just need to get creative so that you can still have your hands free while working in the garden! Any other gardeners out there who can relate?!
It's such a privilege to be able to spend my days helping children to love and care for the bees...but some days are extra special when you find some friends who already love them as much as you do!
Thanks for having me along to visit
Lambing season has started at Hale Farm. Love this time of year...and how happy does this little lamb look!!
Fabulous creations by the children . Thanks for having me along to extend the children's knowledge and exploration about the wonderful world of bees!
Pretty proud of this kid...she decided she wanted to spend the holidays "surviving" outside...well, she has been outside now since Sunday, and has kept herself occupied exploring, cooking her own meals, foraging for food, collecting firewood, reading books, playing with animals, helping with farm chores...
She had some special company from her cousin for the last few nights which has been lovely and I'm just super impressed with these kids perseverance in the winter elements...great job Clara girl!
I absolutely love hosting groups at Hale Farm...last month, one of my regular "farm school" groups helped me problem solve my chickshaw chicken coop, so that the crows would stop stealing our eggs...well as you can see, it has been a wonderful success! I love that the kids had some great ideas and worked with me on the project with such gusto! Thanks for your help friends!!
When a beekeeper needs a new pair of runners...
The colours of autumn and this handsome dog!

My photo doesn't do it justice, but this was this mornings sunrise...just something else!!
