Congratulations to all University of Melbourne riders for topping the leaderboards this Biketober 😆🥇🙌

143 riders collectively completed 2,561 rides totalling to 21,886 km ridden and 2,547 kg of CO2 saved 🚴‍♂️

Congratulations to our top rider, Werner Furuya from The Florey Institute for being our top rider and the winner of a Prince Cycles Voucher!

We encourage all staff and students to continue championing active transport as a cleaner and healthier way of commuting 🌏

The University was awarded Sustainability Institution of the Year at the 2023 Green Gown Awards yesterday 🏆🎉

Our ongoing work and achievements in Choosing to Reuse were also recognised with the Leading the Circular Economy award 🏆💚 🙌

This is a testament to the hard work of not only our Sustainability Team but of our Campus Management teams, faculties, contractors, suppliers and of course, our very own students and staff who are integral to helping shape our campuses to be living labs of sustainable action 🌏

Yesterday, our Green Impact student auditors reviewed the toolkits for our participating staff and student teams for 2023 😆✅

They were given an informative training session by .aunz around sustainability, how it is practised at The University of Melbourne and how to complete an environmental audit.

This process will help us to determine our Green Impact champions for the year who will be presented at our upcoming Sustainability Awards Ceremony 🎉

Are you moving out for the semester and have items that you no longer want, or can’t take with you?

Donate them to the Sustainability Team’s collection of household items that will be redistributed to students who need them at the start of the new Semester 💗

Items that you can donate include clothing 👚, bedding 🛏, kitchenware 🍽, e-waste 🎧 and stationery 🖊.

You can drop your items off at the following collection stations:

1. Level 1, Building 168, Parkville outside the UMSU reception.
8.30am – 5pm, Mon-Fri (9am – 5pm outside semester)
2. Level 4, Building 162, outside the student kitchen.
Mon–Fri: 8am–9pm, Sat: 11am–9pm, Sun: 11am–5pm

The Sustainability Team are looking for student volunteers to assist with various positions such as sorting the items, creating “starter packs” for new students and to help facilitate our “Free Shop” event at the start of Semester 1, 2024. Volunteer hours will go towards a Sustainability Credential!

We will be joining the Wildlife Conservation Society to collect sightings of fauna on the Burnley campus for the Biodiversity Baseline Mapping project.

Our riders are absolutely smashing it this Biketober 💥

We are currently in the Number #1 position for Australia, Melbourne and across the participating Universities! 🏆💪😆

Even more exciting is that we have so far saved 566 kilograms of carbon dioxide (car-equivalent) from being emitted after riding 5,281 km collectively 🌏
