Yesterday morning we said goodbye to talented sports management students from Singapore’s Institute of Technical Education, Singapore (ITE), who completed their 10-day Global Education Network - GEN cultural exchange.
The ambitious students were eager to learn and share ideas, and were given an all-access tour to Melbourne’s best sporting venues including the MCG, volunteered at the Nike Melbourne Marathon Festival, and received an exclusive training session with our students.
The program exposed students to the differences between the two countries’ sporting industries and cultures.
“The structure of education is really different to Singapore, and I have gained more knowledge on differences and how they study” said ITE student Dini Dannisha Rusli.
Thanks to ITE Lecturer Iwan Ismail and ITE Section Head (Wellness & Health Services) Choo Pui Shan who worked tirelessly to make the trip so rewarding. We look forward to welcoming more GEN partners to Box Hill Institute and seeing our students visit our GEN partners abroad to reap the rewards.

Nature met technology for this week’s Koorie Showcase at the Yarra Ranges Tech School.
The culmination of a six-session program, the showcase saw Indigenous students from schools in the Lilydale District and Upper Yarra Education Cluster present their dreamtime-inspired creations to school principals, teachers and fellow classmates.
“What we’ve seen is students coming in and really wanting to look at different ways of telling stories or expressing themselves,” Yarra Ranges Tech School Director Ashley Van Krieken said.

It’s not every day you support KISS at Rod Laver Arena, but you’re probably not our Music Coordinator Pete Satchell.
Playing to a sold-out crowd, Pete’s band Dallas Crane supported KISS on their Melbourne tour last month.
Despite their own impressive music career and playing Rod Laver five times now, supporting one of the biggest bands in history was something special for Dallas Crane, Pete said.
“It was really exciting for us all. If someone had told me as a 5-year-old, when I was making cardboard Ace Frehley guitars, that I’d be playing alongside KISS one day, I’d say how on earth?,” Pete said.
With rock star muso staff like Pete, it’s no wonder our Music courses are so highly regarded.

Next time you’re flying over Box Hill, try and catch a glimpse of our over 1000 solar panels sitting on our campus roofs.
They’re part of a sustainability project completed by FG Advisory at the beginning of this year which included the installation of 8000 LEDs, a water efficiency project and Building Management Systems (BMS) upgrades across the Institute.
Thanks to FG Advisory who visited us on campus today and shared insights from the project and sustainability trends with our second- and third-year electrotechnology students.
With the Energy Market Operator predicting an extra 12,500 skilled workers needed for large-scale renewable energy projects just like this one, our students are getting the training and qualifications to be part of future sustainability projects.
