This year we are also making our famous, iconic Poppy Seed Kooglhoupf due to huge outcry after we didn't make them last year.

Besha writes, "I've never had a kugelhopf exactly like the one at St Kilda's Monarch cakes...when visitors come to Melbourne, I send them to eat hot jam donuts and make sure they get a piece of chocoalte kugelhopf from Monarch".

If you've ever wondered why we spell our special Kooglhoupf the way we do, rather than the German hugelhopf, it's because of the unique way ours is lovingly made. All the swirls of real chocolate are designed to melt when warmed...it truly is an experience you will only get at Monarch Cakes!

Opinion: Stop the culinary cringe. It’s time we redefined what we call ‘Australian food’ We are more than meat pies, Chiko rolls and pavlovas, but we are those things as well. And right now, our cultural identity has never been stronger.

It's literally a Kooglhoupf factory here at the moment. Our wonderful, dedicated pasty chef is working tirelessly to make as many of these beauties in time for Easter. As quickly as they are made, they are sold...so PLEASE order! It's lovely that people are packing out the store and the return to normal has been great...but it is really difficult to predict how busy Easter will be, so please give us a call (9534 2972) to place your orders so you don't miss out!!

Very proud to have been asked to make this beautiful traditional wedding cake for the most lovely couple, Mark & Daniel, who today tied the knot on their 20th anniversary. Monarch Cakes has been trading in Acland st in the same store since 1934. Nothing has been of a greater threat to our village than the proposed closure of the street to traffic and the planned massive tram terminus that will effectively turn half of the street into a depot. It will divide Acland st in half and cause major traffic jams as cars will be diverted into the small residential side streets, not to mention the loss of 50 parking spots on the street. We have not run out of options and the traders of Acland Village and multitudes of residents will not stop fighting this proposal. If you are in Alcand st please come into Monarch or any other store and sign the petition to Save the unique nature of Acland Village. Thank you!
